00:00This week is a crunch, man.
00:01Right back at practice today for the Texans.
00:03Right back at it.
00:04It's nice because, you know, D'Amico's going to be ready and raring to go
00:09to talk about the upcoming opponent,
00:12whereas last week he was almost a little surprised that people were so eager
00:16to talk about this week.
00:18He gets it, man.
00:19What's the rush?
00:20I know.
00:21You know what?
00:21We didn't play this audio on the show.
00:24It just didn't work out.
00:25But the James Harrison acting like D'Amico is throwing shade at the Steelers
00:30by being dismissive of a Steelers question, that was pretty good.
00:35That was James Harrison putting a chip on his shoulder,
00:38finding things to be offended by, and that's exactly what you need to do.
00:44That's how you end up making it as an undrafted rookie free agent
00:47and becoming an all-pro multiple times
00:50and having a Super Bowl, a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
00:53Yeah, 100-yard touchdown in the Super Bowl.
00:56Yeah.
00:57It's a guy who doesn't look like he should be able to outrun 11 other people.
01:00You know, like Harrison was always good.
01:01He ran over half of them.
01:02He was deceptively fast because he just looked like a bodybuilder.
01:07And if you've ever seen a bodybuilder try to run, it's hilarious.
01:10Except for Harrison, no, it was not hilarious at all when he ran.
01:14No, definitely not hilarious for gamblers because that was the Arizona Super Bowl,
01:19the Steelers in Arizona,
01:20and Arizona is driving for a touchdown at the end of the half
01:24that would have flipped all kinds of bets at the half.
01:27And James Harrison, nope, we're going to get a touchdown.
01:29And let's be honest here.
01:30This is really what it's all about is the Texans, you know,
01:34try to get one more step closer to a Super Bowl.
01:36New heights, Seth.
01:37It really is all about just being able to shut that argument down
01:42when you get into arguments with people from other fan bases.
01:44I just, you know, it's such easy, low-hanging fruit for, like,
01:49idiotic Cowboys fans who somehow try to bring up the 90s
01:52every time you get into an argument about how horrendous their team is now.
01:56I would like to just not even having an argument with some dullard inbred from Dallas.
02:02I would like to be able to just close that door
02:05so I don't have to waste 45 seconds explaining why they're so stupid in that regard.
02:10You mean you're saying that the Texans just get to the AFC title game
02:12so we don't have to deal with this anymore?
02:13No, no, no, win a Super Bowl.
02:14Oh, win a Super Bowl.
02:15Win a Super Bowl.
02:15Just that's the only – yeah, sure, it's awesome to win a Super Bowl,
02:18but mostly just for our – to give you another weapon
02:23when you argue with other fan bases in the future.
02:26Yeah, yeah.
02:27And so it's really the only good reason to win a Super Bowl, truth be told.
02:31Is to have ammo to fight with other people.
02:33Yes, yes.
02:34I like that.
02:34Yeah, I like that.
02:36D'Amico Ryan's met with the media yesterday over Zoom,
02:39and, look, the big talk throughout the offseason was
02:42got to get to at least the AFC title game.
02:44Well, here we are.
02:44Sunday 2 o'clock, Patriots at Gillette Stadium,
02:49a site the Texans had been at before at this exact same stage of the playoffs,
02:53twice in their history, both times under different head coaches
02:56than D'Amico Ryan's.
02:58Here was D'Amico yesterday on the opportunity to get to the AFC title game.
03:02I'm really excited to just be leading this team in this moment,
03:06to have us in this position for a third year.
03:10It's a blessing.
03:12It's an honor.
03:13I don't take it lightly to be one of the final four teams left in the AFC.
03:18It's where you want to be.
03:19It's the position you want to be in if you're a competitor,
03:22and I'm a true competitor.
03:23Love competing.
03:24Love where we are.
03:25Love the mindset of our team.
03:27And love the opportunity we have before us.
03:29And it is about just one week at a time.
03:32I know you don't want to hear it, but it's still one week at a time.
03:34And the Patriots are a really good team.
03:36Good team.
03:37And really flip the culture of that team.
03:41His impact is shown on how these guys play.
03:44They're physical.
03:45They're a smart team.
03:46It mimics how he played the game.
03:48So, it'll be a really, really tough opponent.
03:51But we're excited for the matchup, and we're just, man, thankful for this opportunity.
03:56There's actually a lot to unpack for me in that quote right there, Seth.
03:59The opportunity, obviously.
04:00I love what he said about Vrabel.
04:02Them playing the way that Vrabel, or the Patriots playing the way that Vrabel played,
04:07because I think the Texans are a mirror image of that with the way, at least on defense,
04:10that they play.
04:11A lot like D'Amico Ryan's played.
04:14But this, to me, the opportunity is the huge thing here.
04:20And it's not just this game.
04:21And by the way, the other thing I like is that D'Amico's like,
04:23yeah, I know you don't like to hear one week at a time.
04:26No, from you, we like to hear one week at a time.
04:28Let us be the hot take people.
04:30Let us be the ones that do what I'm about to do.
04:33And tell you the look-ahead lines for the AFC title game.
04:37Let's look ahead.
04:38Let's look past the Patriots.
04:39If the Texans were to make it.
04:41Well, here's why I'm doing it.
04:42And the Patriots are part of this.
04:45We've talked all season about how upside down the AFC is, how crazy it is.
04:48The NFL at large, really.
04:50I mean, look, the Bears are one of the teams that are left over in the NFC.
04:54They've been horrible the last several years.
04:56The AFC is crazy right now.
04:57The teams are the Bills, which we expect.
04:59The Texans have been here the last couple years.
05:01But the Patriots and the Broncos have had huge turnarounds in the last two years.
05:05And they're the one and two seeds in this thing.
05:08So the Patriots, the Texans are a three-point underdog in this game against the Patriots.
05:11These are two evenly matched teams, despite what everybody in New England thinks.
05:14I was on Nessun yesterday, and I know you've been so scheduled to go on various shows the
05:20next few days.
05:21And I am preparing for very cocky Patriots fans.
05:25But if the Texans were to make it to the AFC title game, the lines on the game would
05:32be either Texans at Broncos, Broncos minus one and a half, which means the Texans are
05:37viewed as the superior team.
05:38It's just it's in Denver.
05:39And the Bills and the Texans would be a pick them here at NRG Stadium, which means the
05:44Bills are viewed as a superior team.
05:46But go to hell.
05:47We know how it goes for Buffalo at NRG Stadium.
05:51My point is, this is not years past with the Texans, where they're going into the divisional
05:56round as a touchdown underdog like the last couple of years in Kansas City and in Baltimore.
06:01And then if they happen to pull off the upset, my God, they got to beat the other of Baltimore,
06:06Kansas City or Buffalo at their place in the AFC title game.
06:10They can win this thing, man.
06:11They can win the whole damn thing.
06:13Yeah, that's as everybody's been saying since the end of the season, it's just so even and
06:19wide open in the AFC, especially right now, that anything could happen.
06:23I think the biggest thing about this matchup versus the Patriots and the thing that's been
06:28annoying me so much is just all of this college football playoff style debate about strength
06:34of schedule and everything else.
06:36And more than anything, I'm kind of shocked that Patriots fans are as insecure as they
06:42seem to be about all of this.
06:44That a team that has been flooded with copyrighted logos and slogans for years and years about
06:51the importance of no days off and hard work and grind and all that stuff, that you would
06:57think, okay, on the field in the playoffs, we'll show exactly what we need.
07:01But they're just adamant.
07:02They need to show that, no, Drake May is genuinely as great as he seems based on the stats and
07:07everything.
07:07He very well might be.
07:09I mean, he's done some really impressive things this year.
07:11But I think also, I think there's a little bit of insecurity there in that they, too,
07:16understand and know that they haven't truly been tested.
07:19That, look, the entire league is not the same as playing the schedule that they've played.
07:27And they've gotten, you know, they played the Chargers.
07:31When they played the Chargers in the playoffs, that's the first time all season they've faced
07:34a top 10 scoring defense.
07:37And Drake May got it going eventually.
07:40But some of those old, some of the things like with the Patriots offense, one of the
07:46few things where they don't rank really high statistically is in the red zone.
07:51And, you know, they came up short in the red zone continually.
07:54So they had a whole lot of yardage, et cetera, et cetera.
07:56They scored 16 points.
07:57Great.
07:58That's the big thing.
07:59They scored 16 points.
08:00They scored 16 points.
08:00Yeah.
08:01So you can say the same thing about the Texans defense.
08:05Hey, they rank top five in just about every category.
08:09Now, the Texans defense has faced, they've had eight games where they faced a top 10 scoring
08:14offense.
08:14But the red zone defense is one of the areas that just isn't, it's right around the middle.
08:21Explosive pass plays allowed.
08:22You know, they're, they're average in that regard.
08:24It's one of the few areas where they're not a top five defense and the Patriots can, can
08:30potentially exploit that.
08:31Like they're all there.
08:32The, the matchup is just like it was last week in a lot of regards.
08:35It's very even, but all of the discussion and watching that Texan Steelers game, I'm watching,
08:42I'm looking at Drake May versus CJ Stroud.
08:45And I, I would feel pretty good about Drake May in that, in that matchup, especially on the
08:50heels of CJ's game on Monday.
08:51No doubt about that.
08:53Um, yeah, it's, it's in the other strange part about that is with the Patriot fans and,
08:58um, is that they, for all those years, they beat up on a patsy division.
09:03Yeah.
09:04I mean, they were in a division with bad dolphin teams, bad jet teams, and bad bills teams.
09:08Kids.
09:09I know you kids who are 15 or 16 years old.
09:11Don't remember a time where the bills stunk, but they stunk for about 20 years and didn't
09:16make the playoffs.
09:17So it is strange that, that they feel like there's this college football playoff argument
09:23going on with them.
09:24Like, no, just prove it on the field on Sunday.
09:26You're not campaigning to get in.
09:28You're in the post season.
09:29Yeah.
09:29You're already in.
09:30You don't have to argue.
09:31You don't have to lobby the college football playoff committee to get your proper
09:35two seed yet a hell of a year.
09:37Look, you guys lost to the bills and, and, and you're still in, you know, nobody looked
09:42at people looked, this is what the league did.
09:44The committee looked at that bills loss and they said, yes, it was late in the season,
09:49but you scored 31 points and, uh, it's a quality loss.
09:53We're not going to dock you too much for that quality loss to the bills.
09:57It is.
09:57All right.
09:57You looked, you, you, you actually competed against the bills.
10:01Good for you.
10:02They, um, they invoked schedule on me with, uh, on Nesson yesterday, Nesson, for those
10:07who don't know, it's, it's the equivalent of our space city home network.
10:10It's their regional sports network.
10:11And they're like, other than Josh Allen, who have the Texans really beaten?
10:15I'm like, well, I know they didn't make the playoffs, but they went and beat me in Kansas
10:19city.
10:20Yeah.
10:20I will tell you there are five losses other than Tampa Bay, who almost made the playoffs
10:25are all by one score to playoff teams.
10:27And they're only two losses since Halloween are to the two, one seeds by one score.
10:32So like, yeah, are we doing this?
10:34Yeah.
10:35I'm like, you're, you're like quality losses.
10:37You're picking the wrong fight, dude.
10:38Just, just stand behind your MVP quarterback and shadow punch me.
10:43That's, that's what you should do.
10:44If you're trying to argue Patriots and Texans right now, because the odds makers see these
10:49two teams as the same, you're a three point favorite at Gillette stadium.
10:53The odds makers who are pretty good at this, see these two teams at the same.
10:56If you're trying to argue for your team, just stand behind your quarterback and your really
11:01good head coach and just look over their shoulder and punch at me like that, hiding behind Mike
11:06Vrabel and Drake may, that's your argument.
11:08Don't, don't take out your resume and wave me over and slap them down next to each other
11:13on the table.
11:14That's where I guess the, I, I'm just surprised that they're as insecure as they are about all
11:19of it.
11:19I just, it really is.
11:20I'm a, I'm looking for the old cocky Patriots fans.
11:23I'm looking for that.
11:24I want, I want the, the Bostonian who's watched the departed seven times last week for the,
11:30for the 1,080th time he's watched the departed and he's feeling himself and he doesn't care
11:36what the strength of schedule is or anything.
11:38We're going to come in, but no, instead, maybe it's because they, maybe it's because that
11:43entire region doesn't give a damn about college football, that they feel like they've missed
11:46out on some of the college football playoff debates and they just, they desperately want
11:51to be a part of it.
11:52Like, Hey, this is our chance.
11:53This is our chance.
11:54Bill O'Brien sure ain't doing it with Boston college for us.
11:57So now we can participate in some of this.
12:00My biggest concern, Seth, is when the Texans go on to win six Super Bowls, is this what's
12:05going to happen to us?
12:06Is there, are we going to, are we going to be as insecure once the Texans win?
12:10Once the Texans win their six rings, it's a price I'm willing to pay for the six rings.
12:14The, uh, I've, yeah, I'm willing to pay that price as well.
12:17Yep.
12:17I mean, they're bringing up Letterman jacket stuff and everything.
12:21I was doing that to JJ yesterday on social media.
12:24You guys are stuck in, stuck in the past.
12:27Yeah, man.
12:28What's going on here, man?
12:29Who's this Jerry Thornton that said that, uh, Oh yeah, this was, it was just a, I, it was
12:34just dumb.
12:35I'm glad, dude.
12:35I am glad we are working up.
12:37Do we want to pace ourselves on the pettiness for this game on Sunday or do we just want
12:40to go balls to the wall on this?
12:42Yeah.
12:42I'm starting to, I'm having a hard time figuring out whether I've got more of a grudge against
12:47the Patriots or just Bostonians in general.
12:50Okay.
12:51And a lot of this goes back to, you know, childhood and early adulthood.
12:54Sure.
12:55I went to college with a lot of Bostonians.
12:57Yeah.
12:57Miserable people.
12:58Yeah.
12:58Miserable people.
12:59They'll tell you themselves.
13:00They're miserable.
13:00Well, I think that's all.
13:01Uh, Bill Burr is, uh, created an entire career out of being a miserable Bostonian.
13:05The only way.
13:06He's brilliant at it.
13:07The only way we're going to find out is to go balls to the wallet.
13:09I don't know.
13:10Have you ever watched any Bill Burr and you wonder like, uh, all right, how much of this
13:13is an act?
13:14No, that's tamped down.
13:15That is tamped down Bostonian right there.
13:18Um, so Jerry Thornton said, after watching 20 plus minutes of this game, talking about
13:23the Steelers versus the Texans, you could select an all Texan Steelers team to play at Gillette
13:28next week and the Patriots should be 10 point favorites.
13:31Like, all right, well, they've already, they're, they're playing an all Texans team and they're
13:36three point favorite.
13:38Yeah.
13:38So Stan, the whole odds making thing goes, well, he was watching the, the, admittedly
13:44the first 20 minutes of that game was not the prettiest, uh, it's kind of a small sample
13:48side.
13:48He's a barstool, by the way, for people who don't know who Jerry Thornton is.
13:51Um, I, you know what?
13:53That's, that's Bostonian right there.
13:55Yeah.
13:56That's Boston.
13:57Uh, um, I think that, no, honestly, look, CJ Stroud can't go out and play the way he did.
14:01And I think the biggest question with CJ is just, all right, is his, it was that game
14:06that he had, which was very uncharacteristic of the way CJ has played this year.
14:15In terms of protecting the football.
14:17He's been very careful with the football.
14:18Right.
14:19Yeah.
14:19He hasn't had a great season.
14:20He hasn't had a Drake Mays title season.
14:21Obviously, um, like, okay.
14:23Is it psychological or is it physical?
14:25Uh, who knows, um, that psychologically I could see, man, no young quarterback, no high
14:33school kid out there right now is dreaming of the day he becomes Trent Dilfer and carried
14:39to a super bowl just by, that was, that was the most painful part of the game he was having
14:44on Monday was seeing people on social media say, well, we're just going to have to Trent
14:49Dilfer our way to the super bowl.
14:50I'm like, no, no, no, no.
14:52Trent Dilfer.
14:52Well, but he wasn't giving a, he wasn't playing as well as Trent Dilfer played.
14:56Right, right, right.
14:57He wasn't even Trent Dilfer.
14:58He was, but, but so you get to that, even though CJ has done a really good job of managing
15:03risk all season, you get to the playoffs and there's going to be that natural urge to,
15:07to just, you want to be a, you want to be a championship NFL quarterback and make some
15:12incredible plays and drive your team to the playoffs.
15:14And he did on Monday though.
15:16That's the thing he made some incredible.
15:19Yeah, but he also made some horrible plays.
15:21He did.
15:21It looked like they came from pressing too hard.
15:23That's what I'm saying.
15:24Like that's the problem.
15:25That's the, but like the Dilfer dichotomy here is that no, CJ will never be Trent Dilfer
15:29because he's living on both sides of Dilfer.
15:32He's making these huge plays, but he's making these horrific plays as well.
15:35The other, the other would just be, okay, is his hand still banged up or something from
15:40a few weeks ago?
15:42That's possible.
15:43And you had pointed out that, Hey, CJ made some great throws.
15:46I think with any injury, if a quarterback's dealing with any nagging thing, it's not a
15:51matter of when, whether they can or cannot make impressive throws.
15:54It's how consistently can they do it?
15:56Yeah.
15:56Yeah.
15:57And if they don't feel like they can consistently do it, that ebbs over into the whole decision
16:01making process and the flow of how they play when there's any hesitancy or doubt, or perhaps
16:07they're trying a little too hard to overcome it.
16:09Right.
16:09That's when things can go off the rails real quickly.
16:12I guess if I had to choose, I would hope that maybe it was some minor nagging injury issue
16:17that could recover in six days, more so than a psychological issue, because sometimes those
16:23things just don't, they don't fit, they don't get rectified except with an entire off season
16:27of darkness retreats.
16:29Yeah.
16:29Well, no doubt of all the, of all the scenarios that it could be.
16:33Yeah.
16:33Something that was physical that he's a hundred percent from by Sunday.
16:36Absolutely.
16:37I'm just not, I'm not as concerned about that going into Sunday.
16:40I just don't, I, it feels like a bad night to me and then maybe I'm being overly optimistic
16:45about it and I'm wrong and I hope I'm not, but I, I am again, I said this yesterday, um,
16:51on the, uh, the stream that I do with Landry and Cody and Reggie last night, I'm, if you're
16:57talking about concerns going into more, concerns about the Texans being able to replicate the
17:01run game they had on Monday than I am CJ putting the ball on the ground five times.
17:06Yeah.
17:06You know, that's, that's my bigger concern.
