The US Embassy in this country says the joint training to be conducted next week by the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Defence Force is part of ongoing exchanges.

The Embasssy also said the joint exercises are aimed at ensuring community safety and upholding cultural respect.

00:00The United States Embassy in Port of Spain confirms the ongoing exchanges between the United States Marine Corps, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, and the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force.
00:13The MSU also says that the presence of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit in the Caribbean supports SOUTHCOM's mission to promote regional stability, counter-transnational threats, and enhance disaster response capabilities.
00:28The Embassy said that the U.S. 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit deployed to the SOUTHCOM and the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force, TTDF, will participate in training exercises together next week from November 16th to 21st.
00:44The U.S. Embassy quoted its charge of affairs as stating that the exercises are conducted in close coordination with TTDF leadership, local and national government officials, and emergency services to ensure community safety and uphold cultural respect.
01:01And the engagement prioritizes partnership, professionalism, and shared experiences including meals and informal interactions that foster camaraderie and mutual respect.
01:13The U.S. 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit was in Trinidad and Tobago late last month when the USS gravely visited Trinidad and Tobago from October 26th to 30th.
01:24At that time, the U.S. Embassy said the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit would be training alongside the TTDF.
01:32Venezuela's government, led by President Nicolas Maduro, denounced as a hostile provocation the five-day visit of the USS gravely, which the government of Trinidad and Tobago said was meant to bolster the fight against transnational crime.
01:47Venezuela's government then suspended all of its natural gas agreements with Trinidad and Tobago, and its National Assembly declared the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamlo Pesad-Besessa, persona non grata.
02:01Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa responded by calling the Venezuela National Assembly's declaration useless.
02:07The Prime Minister further said the government, under her leadership, will continue supporting drug interdiction exercises against narco-traffickers in international waters.
02:16Southcom has consistently stated on its Facebook page that U.S. military forces are deployed to the Caribbean in support of the U.S. Southern Command Mission, Department of War-directed Operations, and the U.S. President's priorities to disrupt illicit drug trafficking and protect the homeland.
