The Defence Minister has visited two military bases in Trinidad, as he continues to be the subject of death threats.

The Government says the visits show its support for this country's Armed Forces.

The Defence Force and the Police continue to have broadened powers during the State of Emergency.

00:00Defence Minister Wayne Sturge continues to carry out his official duties since being identified in recent media reports as one of four Cabinet members under death threats.
00:09Photos posted on the National Security Ministry's Facebook page show the Defence Minister visiting two Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force bases, Camp La Romaine and Camp Ogden, over the weekend.
00:21A brief statement accompanying the photos said that Minister Sturge met with the dedicated service members.
00:26The statement further said that the visit highlights the Government's continued support for our armed forces and its commitment to ensuring our troops have the resources, training and infrastructure needed to serve with excellence.
00:39The National Security Ministry's Facebook page post further said that Minister Sturge took the time to engage directly with Defence Force personnel, recognising the outstanding work being done at both camps.
00:52Last week, Justice Minister Davish Maraj told the media there's grave concern by fellow ministers about Minister Sturge.
00:59When Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander fielded questions from the media about the Defence Minister last week, he said Minister Sturge is alive and well and performing his duties.
01:09On Tuesday, August 19th, the Express newspaper reported that there's a $2.8 million collective bounty plot against Local Government Minister Khadija Amin, Public Utilities Minister Bari Padarath.
01:22This follows recent statements made by Prime Minister Kamla Pesad-Besessa that Minister Amin, Minister Padarath and Mr. Khan were the subject of threats due to what the Prime Minister called the Government's crackdown on state-funded CPEP and URP.
