An investigation has been launched into a social media video featuring a joint patrol operation between the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard and the Department of Marine Resources and Fisheries' Reef Patrol Unit, following a concluded patrol during Carnival activities in Tobago. The video has gone viral on social media and according to the Environment Division, action is to be taken. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00The Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development
00:06says it acknowledges public concern about the video on social media.
00:11According to the division, the video in question shows two Coast Guard officers and two Reef
00:17Patrol officers from the Department of Marine Resources and Fisheries in uniform as they
00:22returned to port at the end of their joint patrol duties.
00:27Although the patrol itself had concluded and the vessel was en route to disembarkation,
00:33the division says it acknowledges that the unauthorized recording and the sharing of
00:38operational activities even at this time was inappropriate and does not align with the
00:44division's professional standards.
00:47The department says it acknowledges this lapse in judgment by staff and action would be taken
00:53starting with enhanced training to strengthen the working relationship between Reef Patrol
00:59officers and the Coast Guard.
01:01This training will reinforce protocols for joint operations and proper documentation
01:07procedures.
01:08The division says it remains steadfast in its commitment to the highest standards of
01:13professionalism across operations.
