The Defence Minister held a meeting with officials of State security and representatives of a N-G-O today regarding the pending arrival of 21 Trinidad and Tobago nationals who are set to be deported from the U.S. on a chartered flight.

00:00Preparations underway for the tentative arrival of 21 deportees from the United States on Friday.
00:07On Facebook, there was an official announcement that on Tuesday, May 20th,
00:11Defence Minister Wayne Sturge convened a strategic meeting with officials
00:16from the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, Vision on Mission and the Immigration Division
00:21to discuss national preparations and collaborative measures for the reception
00:25and reintegration of 21 incoming deportees repatriated from the United States.
00:32On Monday, it was announced that Minister Sturge and Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander
00:37met with representatives from Vision on Mission to discuss collaborative efforts
00:42in rehabilitation, reintegration and public safety initiatives at their office in Port of Spain.
00:47It was the Ministry of Homeland Security which announced on May 17th
00:51that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE,
00:56requested the government's assistance in facilitating the arrival of a chartered flight to Port of Spain
01:02tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 23rd, for the repatriation of the 21 deportees
01:08currently in the custody of U.S. immigration authorities.
01:12The Homeland Security Ministry had said the deportees comprised 17 males
01:16and four females who are all Trinidad and Tobago nationals.
01:20The Homeland Security Ministry said that the government of Trinidad and Tobago
01:24was reviewing the manifest and itinerary provided and was in communication with ICE
01:29to ensure all protocols, documentation and logistical requirements are met
01:33in accordance with local and international immigration standards.
01:38The Homeland Security Ministry also said on May 17th
01:41that both it and the Ministry of Foreign and Caracom Affairs
01:44continue to work closely with U.S. authorities
01:47to ensure the safe and dignified return of all Trinidad and Tobago nationals.
01:51The request made by ICE to the new UNC-led government
01:55follows confirmation on March 29th
01:57of the deportation of 11 Trinidad and Tobago nationals
02:00from the U.S. on a chartered flight
02:02that arrived at the Piako International Airport
02:05on Friday, March 28th
02:07under the former PNM-led government.
02:10The general election took place
02:11in Trinidad and Tobago
02:13On May 6th, ICE issued a statement
02:17confirming that on April 29th
02:19it had joined more than 1,000 service members,
02:22law enforcement professionals,
02:24government officials and participants
02:26from 26 allied and partner nations
02:28gathered in Trinidad and Tobago
02:30to officially launch Tradewinds 2025,
02:33a multinational, multi-domain exercise
02:36sponsored by U.S. Southern Command
02:38and led by U.S. Army South.
