00:0021 deportees were initially expected to return to TNT from the United States over the weekend,
00:06but only 17 came. Based on information we have received from the TNT Police Service,
00:12it is not known at this time when the remaining four will be returning.
00:16In the meantime, the TPS has made mention that there are concerns among members of the public
00:21in relation to these deportees. Some of the offenses allegedly committed by those who have
00:27returned include homicide, human trafficking and sexual crimes. The TPS refers to the deportation
00:34exercise last Saturday as a coordinated multi-agency operation which was done under the guidance of the
00:41Special Investigations Unit. It says it is collaborating with key stakeholders to allow
00:46the deportees to have a smooth and structured reintegration into society. A press release
00:52from the TPS's Communications Department indicates that a commitment has been made
00:57by Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Investigations, Suzette Martin, to support the
01:02process in partnership with the Immigration Division and Vision on Mission. Martin is quoted as saying,
01:09Our priority is to work closely with our partners to ensure that all individuals are safely and
01:15responsibly settled. This process is interactive and will be guided by ongoing assessments to ensure
01:22appropriate interventions and support mechanisms are in place at every stage." The TPS says one of its
01:31priorities is to maintain public safety and order. In this regard, it is seeking to give an assurance to
01:37the country that no effort is being spared and that the issue is being addressed seriously and with the
01:43sensitivity that is required at this time. Alicia Boucher, TV6 News.
