I intend to address immediately, and it will happen on Tuesday next week, the issue of
00:05
foreign exchange and forex and allocation of forex as one of the first items on my list
00:13
of priorities.
00:14
The declaration from Prime Minister Stuart Young during his first post-Cabinet media
00:18
briefing on Thursday.
00:19
I have asked the Minister of Finance who is here, Senator Vishnu Danball, our Minister
00:25
of Finance, to please invite, and I intend to dispatch the necessary correspondence as
00:33
Prime Minister as well.
00:34
Next week, Tuesday at 2.30, I have invited the Central Bank and the Bankers' Association
00:42
of Trinidad and Tobago, and I'm hoping all the CEOs, the Chief Executive Officers of
00:48
the banks that operate in Trinidad and Tobago, to meet with myself, the Minister of Finance,
00:55
right here at Whitehall.
00:57
Access to foreign exchange continues to be a challenge for business owners, and also
01:00
those who travel abroad for business or for pleasure.
01:04
But I intend to raise at that meeting this issue of foreign exchange and how it is that
01:10
we can address the foreign exchange.
01:11
The fact is that we have less foreign exchange than we used to, that is a fact of life.
01:17
However, how do we look at the allocation of the foreign exchange that is available
01:23
to us amongst our citizens of Trinidad and Tobago?
01:27
The Prime Minister said the media will be invited to observe the start of the meeting
01:30
and will later be informed of the outcome.
