00:00opposition MP who represents the constituency of Meharu said the efforts
00:05of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard to address the sighting of the
00:08unidentified vessel near the Cassia platform are commendable. First let me
00:13acknowledge the dedication of the Coast Guard officers who responded to this
00:16crisis. They did their best with the limited resources at their disposal
00:21towing the vessel despite its deteriorated state. Their effort deserves
00:28recognition. But the bigger question is this. Why are these officers of the
00:35Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard continuously being sent into life-and-death
00:39situations without the proper tools and infrastructure they need to succeed?
00:45MP Parry believes that the absence of air support significantly hampered the Coast
00:50Guard's ability to respond promptly and effectively. The Port of Galiota is a key
00:55strategic location for maritime operations yet it lacks properly
01:00outfitted and functioning Coast Guard assets. This absence directly impacts
01:06response times in the southeastern region. MP Parry also said that the Coast
01:11Guard seafront base at Galiota has not been rebuilt after being demolished
01:16during the port's refurbishment project. Jule Brown TV6 News
