00:00Event promoter Randy Glasgow says he understands the prime minister's position, but stresses her that carnival is deeply important to the people of Trinidad and Tobago, both culturally and economically.
00:12Of course, carnival positions our country as a global force in culture. And, you know, all the different events and elements makes a part of an experience different to everybody else. You know, a lot of countries, you know, wish they had Trinidad carnival.
00:30When asked on Morning Edition whether there should have been consultation between the authorities and the promoter's association before the decision was made, Glasgow had this to say.
00:40I'm not in a position to say, you know, what was the process. You know, we don't have any event scheduled for Brian Lara next year, so, you know, we'll be out of the loop and so forth. But, you know, what's done is done. Let's look ahead. Let's put things together for the benefit of the carnival and the stakeholders. And I said at the end, everything will work itself out.
01:01He also proposed solutions to avoid similar issues in the future. He suggested that state authorities allocate a dedicated piece of land where promoters can build their own venue for large events, concerts, and parties.
01:14He further recommended increasing caution fees to improve accountability.
01:19What I would recommend to the chairman is to raise the caution fee, you know, based on the size of event and what type of event, you know, presentation college have their all-inclusive event there. So, you know, people are dressed up. They come in a different mood for a different vibe. So, their caution fee could be different.
01:37If you're doing a wet fet, or you're doing a wet fet or you're doing a wet fet or you're doing a wet fet or you're doing a wet fet, or the case may be, you know, the caution fee will be different.
01:44If you're doing a comedy show or you're doing a concert, a Chutney concert or so forth, you know, so you vary the caution fee based on the type of event.
01:53The promoters association says it hopes for further dialogue with the government as the fetting season approaches.
