Nothing short of a nightmare is how one Tobago mother is describing her experience after giving birth to her baby son alone at the labour room of the Scarborough General Hospital last Friday night.

The mother who wished not to be identified told TV6 News she was taunted, laughed at and shouted at by medical staff at the Scarborough General Hospital during the ordeal.

Father of the child says they intend to take legal action in the matter. More in this exclusive Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00What are you calling on the authorities to do?
00:03Full investigation. I don't think she should be in the ward from this evening.
00:10I don't think so. Until the investigation is done.
00:14The mother in question was brought to tears during our interview.
00:18She told us she gave Perth a loan in the labor room, while her husband listened via her cellular phone.
00:25The second time my body felt a push, I felt like his head was going to come through.
00:33I tried to stop my body from pushing, because I remember she said, don't push until the nurses tell it to push.
00:41But I'm looking around and there's no one in this room.
00:45So he is trying to talk to me from on the phone, trying to coach me.
00:50And I told him, I don't think I can hold this anymore.
00:55My body is pushing on its own.
00:57And when I push, I felt his head pop through.
01:02And by the second push, he was three-quarter way out.
01:07He cried as he came out.
01:11Her nightmare did not end there.
01:14I am pressing the nurse call button on the bed.
01:17I'm not sure if it was working or not.
01:18I called, I pressed it a few times, because when I felt he was coming through, all I remember shouting, because I dropped the phone and everything.
01:27All I remember shouting was, the baby is coming and there's no one in.
01:31This startling revelation was made when medical personnel returned to the labor room.
01:36The distraught mother said she was then shouted at by medical personnel, while her husband listened through the ordeal via her cellular phone, as he heard the cries of his baby boy when he was born.
01:51And then when the placenta came out, all the receptors down there started to hurt, because I felt all the pain and everything.
02:00And she's shouting at me.
02:03Mind you, he's still on the phone.
02:05She is shouting at me.
02:07And she's like, open your way.
02:09The father of the child was kept out of the delivery room during the nightmare last Friday, which started from 5.30 p.m. to after 8 p.m.
02:19One nurse ended the phone call the mother was having with her husband and then left the room.
02:26The doctor, because I heard the entire conversation, because she was right by the room door, the doctor told her to prop me.
02:33And she said, no, I'm going home.
02:35She came back in the room, she hanged up the phone, and then proceeded to shout at me why I did not hang up the phone, and she told me to hang up the phone.
02:46The couple told us since the incident, both have experienced sleepless nights.
02:51They are today calling for a full-scale investigation into the matter, and medical personnel in question suspended.
02:58TV6 News was shown WhatsApp contact by senior officers of the Division of Health and the Tobago Regional Health Authority, TRHA, to the couple.
03:09TV6 contacted Chairman of the TRHA Board, Chris Lynn Moore, and we are awaiting a response.
03:15When asked to comment on the matter, Health Secretary Dr. Faith Brebner said, quote,
03:21The TRHA will use the appropriate methodology to treat with the accusation.
