00:00Can we do a little exercise?
00:01Yep.
00:01And now I wonder, too, where Grandy and Lucas will be on this.
00:05888-957-9570.
00:07You can weigh in.
00:07What's going to happen when Kyle does that on Friday?
00:10What's going to happen?
00:13Yep.
00:13Brock's off the injury report.
00:15He's playing.
00:16How does that, like, just imagine it, and then how does that feel?
00:20How does that feel to you?
00:23Because I sometimes use this show and these conversations to understand what's real and what's echo chamber.
00:35I get that if you are on our YouTube feed chatting, I don't know if you all even know this about yourselves,
00:41but you understand, each and every one of you, and we love you so much for being here today,
00:47you skew very negative.
00:50You are not a random sampling of Niner fans.
00:54You're not.
00:55Like, just within the last four minutes, Kyle Shanahan can't.
00:59He's a moron.
01:01I bet he wants to leave the Niners.
01:04If you got him in a private room, he would clearly admit to you that Mac Jones is a better QB than Brock.
01:11Full stop, no question.
01:13Like, y'all understand, you are all the way over here.
01:17Trust me, I love the crazy train.
01:19I get on it sometimes, too.
01:21But you're all the way over here.
01:23That's not the way the majority of 49er fans or people in the NFL feel at all.
01:29So that's fine.
01:30Every opinion welcome.
01:31That's cool.
01:32But that's kind of what I'm getting at.
01:34Because if you go to my Twitter feed, if you go to our YouTube chat, if you look at our text line, I'm pretty sure Mac Jones is definitely headed for the Hall of Fame, possibly a future president, and Brock Purdy is somewhere on the bottom of someone's shoe.
01:51And that's how it sounds in that world.
01:54But what's the real world thing?
01:56Do y'all want Mac to continue playing?
02:00Can we just whittle down to that?
02:02I'll be the first to raise my hand, and you all already know what I'm going to say.
02:06Please start in QB.
02:08Get back ASAP when it's safe.
02:11But yes, ASAP.
02:13Elevation sensation.
02:15The Niners will be a better football team.
02:18Mac's been incredible.
02:20He's been very, very good.
02:22I'm super impressed.
02:24Way better than I thought he could be.
02:26Loved George Kittle's answer yesterday.
02:28Hey, George, did you think that Mac Jones was going to be this good?
02:33Nope, I did not.
02:34It's awesome.
02:35What a hell of a football player.
02:37I get why he was a first-round draft pick.
02:3833 of 39, wherever the statistic was, that's a hell of a football game.
02:42He is playing really well.
02:44He's not dangerous with the football either.
02:46He makes good throws.
02:46He forces a couple once in a while, but he's doing a great job.
02:50Our offense isn't an easy offense for a quarterback.
02:52I think quarterback and tight end, in my opinion, are the two hardest positions in our offense,
02:56just what's asked of you on every single play, learning the plays-wise.
03:00You're just required to do so much.
03:01And Christian's up there, too, because he does so much, too.
03:04But for Mac to come in and just take control of the offense and play at a high level consistently,
03:09it's awesome, and it makes me really happy because I'm a huge fan of Mac Jones.
03:12He's hilarious, and I love playing football with him because you can tell he really loves the game.
03:15All right, that's an awesome quote.
03:17I feel the exact same way.
03:18Like, wow!
03:19I didn't think you'd do that.
03:21Yeah, 3-3 since he came back after Brock tried to return and got hurt.
03:25And so he's won three, he's lost three, and yesterday he was mostly awesome.
03:30And I can't wait to hear Grandy and Grandy's grades coming up next hour to see exactly how he assessed his performance.
03:37But 33-39, three touchdowns, one pick.
03:41And yeah, the pick was on a fourth-down play where either you throw that or you eat it and you turn the ball over anyway.
03:48And it's either you make that fourth-down conversion or you lose.
03:51So, yes, it's an interception, and all of them are not created equally.
03:56But other than that, he was pretty much spectacular yesterday.
04:01Yeah.
04:03Mac's been – there's never been a moment where I've watched Mac Jones this year and been like,
04:11dude, get off the field.
04:13Never.
04:14You know, every quarterback throws, ooh, gosh, that throw, this throw, you know what I mean?
04:20He threw a couple yesterday that could have, should have been picked.
04:23But they weren't.
04:24And so, you know, I've never felt that way.
04:28Get off my team.
04:29Like, not one second.
04:32Do I think that this offense has the ability to operate at a next level, at a higher level,
04:40when Brock Purdy comes back, assuming he is a full version of himself?
04:46Absolutely.
04:46I have no questions about that in my mind whatsoever.
04:51And it's not just the mobility factor.
04:54It's not just.
04:54I think it's a plus.
04:55I think it's even more than that.
04:57So, yes, I am fully hopeful and ready for that guy to come back as soon as it's possible for him to play as himself.
05:08There.
05:09But how does everyone else feel on this?
05:13You know what I mean?
05:14Like, are we wanting Brock to play?
05:18A lot of people, maybe, are you wanting Mack to play?
05:22I truly don't know exactly where everybody stands on that.
05:26I think that it's a little bit of a nuanced answer because I want Brock to play because Brock is the quarterback of the future.
05:33But if you look at the last six games and you look at the game against Tampa Bay that they lost and, you know, if Brock played, would they have won that game?
05:42Maybe.
05:43If Brock played against Houston, would they have won that game?
05:46No.
05:46Houston, I think, just absolutely overwhelmed the Niners offense.
05:50I agree.
05:51And the Niners offense was up against it because, you know, they could not move the ball, they couldn't run the ball, and so Brock or Mack, it didn't matter.
05:59And yesterday, to me, the same thing, where, you know, you fell behind because of the defense.
06:03And so Mack came out, and Mack was good, and they went three and out, and then the Rams scored again.
06:10You were down 14-0, and then, you know, Mack got them moving, and you got them into Ram territory, and Jawan Jennings fumbled, and then the defense gave up a third touchdown.
06:19You're down 21-0.
06:20So if you want to look at just the results of games, would the Niners be better record-wise with Brock versus Mack?
06:28I don't really think so, but I do think that going forward in the upside of Brock Purdy, it gives you more of a chance in most games.
06:38And if all things are created equally, Brock is better than Mack.
06:42In the three games that Mack has lost since Brock got hurt, those are not, to me, on Mack at all.
06:49No, I don't think they're on Mack.
06:52Like, you know, they're on...
06:54Games are always on more than one person.
06:58Right, but the quarterback can make mistakes that make it so that it's like, oh, man, if we had a competent quarterback, maybe we wouldn't have lost that game.
07:05For sure, yeah, they stand out, but even the idea that, like, oh, Brock lost the Jacksonville game.
07:11He did not lose that game by himself.
07:13No.
07:14At all.
07:15You know, listen, it was two years ago that we nicknamed it the Purdy 30.
07:21Yep.
07:22Okay?
07:22This is the other thing.
07:23I am anxious to see, especially if you can get Purcell or whatever his name is, if you can get him back, Kittle is back, Jennings is playing, Christian is healthy.
07:34Like, if you put Brock Purdy in this offense, have the offensive line playing a little bit better, which they are, can you get back to that kind of effectiveness?
07:46Because George Kittle is saying that that's what's needed.
07:51You need this offense, in effect, to outscore some teams this year.
07:55Because the defense is killed by injuries, very young.
07:59They're going to give up some points.
08:02Especially to the really good teams and good quarterbacks.
08:05But they don't play a whole lot of those the rest of the way.
08:07So, like, I do think that they'll stay in the game.
08:11Tennessee and Carolina, these teams are not going to run away from the Niners.
08:15They're not going to bust 40.
08:16But I'm fascinated by a season where the 49ers are, what, they've been over 30 one time.
08:25And for a long time, they were struggling to get over 20 in football games.
08:30And people are cool with the QB not coming back.
08:34Go back to last year, the 49ers were 6-11.
08:38Week 1, they scored 32.
08:40Then, Minnesota had a really good defensive game.
08:44They only scored 17.
08:45Week after that, they score 24.
08:48And that's also with multiple misses from Jake Moody.
08:52Week after that, they score 30.
08:54Then they score 23.
08:55Then they score 36.
08:57Then the Chiefs come in with that defense.
08:59They only score 18.
09:01Then they score 30 against Dallas.
09:03Do you hear some of these numbers?
09:04And I can keep going.
09:05And guess when they go down?
09:07They go down when Brock Purdy gets hurt.
09:09Like, where is this fervor for can we get back to 30 points?
09:14Can we get back?
09:15I want to see if he can do it.
09:17I want to see if he can do it.
09:18And by the way, he was doing that last year, obviously, without Christian McCaffrey.
09:23And I know everybody still wants to, oh, yeah, Brock was terrible last year.
09:27Okay, fine.
09:28You don't want to look at any of the numbers.
09:29That's fine.
09:30You don't have to look at the numbers.
09:31Their defense was awful last year.
09:33And by the way.
09:34It's a little bit like this year.
09:36Yeah.
09:36Although, actually, wildly, I don't think that.
09:41This defense, right now, I would take this.
09:45I would even take this defense over last year's defense.
09:48Which is crazy.
09:50And the DVOA would agree with me.
09:52But I know we're in a little bit of a small sample now.
09:55Yeah.
09:55The post-Fred Warner time.
09:57But you were getting so gashed by the run last year.
10:01It's not great this year.
10:03But to me, it's not as bad.
10:05No, it's not.
10:06And last year, you wound up 29th in points against in the league.
10:1029th.
10:11And right now, you are 14th in points against.
10:13So you're not trending in the right direction.
10:16You're trending toward being a bottom half defense in just points allowed.
10:20But, you know, it just depends on all the things you want to look at.
10:24DVOA or EPA.
10:25Right now, you are a middle of the pack defense.
10:28If you want to look at points allowed or the advanced metrics.
10:31You're kind of mid.
10:33And you don't have Bosa.
10:34You don't have Warner.
10:35And I get that.
10:36And your defense now is kind of created to bend but don't break.
10:40And that's what you're hopefully trying to do.
10:42And yesterday was an example where you bent and you also did break.
10:46Which was a little bit of a disappointment because you ended up giving up 42.
10:50Yep.
10:51This one's an interesting.
10:52And this is the reality.
10:54I wish this weren't true.
10:55It is.
10:56There's no way around this.
10:575-1-0.
10:59Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line.
11:02If and when Purdy returns, if he evens so much as farts wrong.
11:07Oh, boy.
11:08He and Kyle will be heavily scrutinized beyond belief.
11:12It's true.
11:13No way around it.
11:14How do you fart right?
11:16Well, you know the answer to that.
11:17I don't want to get too deep into it.
11:18But everybody knows what happens with the wrong fart.
11:20Sure.
11:21Yeah.
11:21So, anyway.
11:22If that even happens, then, yeah.
11:25That's the way that's going to sound.
11:27That's the way that's going to go.
11:29There's no escaping it.
11:30The Niners have arrived in a situation where if and when Purdy returns,
11:34if he plays poorly, that is going to be a loud, angry, embarrassing week following.
11:40If they lose.
11:41Yes.
11:42I mean.
11:42Especially to one of these teams.
11:44And that's my point.
11:44Yeah.
11:45You're going to be favored in all these games.
11:46Right.
11:47You've got Chicago.
11:48You've got Carolina.
11:49You've got Arizona left.
11:51And Cleveland.
11:52And, like, the teams that you're going to play are teams you should beat with Mack or Brock.
11:58Brock or Mack.
11:59Even though you don't have, you know, Nick Bosa.
12:02You don't have Fred Warner.
12:02These are games you still should, quote, unquote.
12:05And I know you hate should.
12:06But these are games that you should probably go out there and win.
12:10Yesterday was a game.
12:11And, you know, the pick was in.
12:13And I told you, you take the Rams and you lay the four and a half kukush.
12:17And I was right.
12:17And I was right about Sunday night as well.
12:19Nice picks.
12:20By the way, another pick coming up here in 12 minutes.
12:22Yeah, the pick is in.
12:23Okay.
12:24The pick is in.
12:24And I'm 2-1 this week.
12:26And, yeah, suddenly, yeah, maybe not yet hot.
12:30If I win tonight, though, your boy's hot again.
12:32What's the record on now?
12:34What are we on?
12:35Is it 28-16?
12:3728's a little hot.
12:3834-8?
12:4026-16?
12:4143-6.
12:43I'm going 26-16.
12:45You are 26-16.
12:4726-16.
12:47Correct.
12:4852-4?
12:49I love that you jumped to 28.
12:51We left here on Friday.
12:53You had 24 wins.
12:55You picked two games.
12:56And you came back.
12:57And you're like, 28.
12:59And let's guru math.
13:01My prediction for Dips?
13:02I love you, guru.
13:0334-17.
13:06I got the Giants going.
13:0882-75.
13:09I mean, we're going to do the drops tournament in July.
13:12It's going to win.
13:13It already has my vote.
13:15He has his own bracket.
13:17Then I still pick that one.
13:19That one.
13:20The combination of what everyone takes from that, but also the tone and flair that's used.
13:26It's the pause.
13:27I got the Giants going.
13:2982-75.
13:30Give me that!
13:30Yeah!
13:31I just...
13:32I just...
13:34It's the best.
13:36Can I get that as my ringtone?
13:38Like, I need...
13:40When Goo calls me, I need that to be my ringtone.
13:42We might need to...
13:43Boy, my wife's going to kill me.
13:45But, I mean, I did play you the video at Ballpark Back Nine over the weekend where the lovely Christy,
13:54not on purpose, completely sounded like Cheryl Bosa.
13:58No!
13:59I hit one.
14:00Did anybody go out there this weekend?
14:03They got the pool at second base.
14:05And I think it's the sixth hole.
14:06And if you fire it at the pool and you splash it in, you win free tickets to a game.
14:11And so everybody kind of stops at that hole.
14:13Stupid, because I'm like, I think I can go to the...
14:16Anyway.
14:16Right.
14:17But I'm like, I'm going to win some tickets.
14:18And I hit one, and I'm yelling at it, be right!
14:22Be right!
14:22Like, I thought I had a shot, and it just missed.
14:25And Christy is filming right behind me, and she immediately goes, no!
14:31And afterward, I'm like, did you mean to Cheryl Bosa that?
14:34She's like, what are you talking about?
14:35She had no idea.
14:36No!
14:37Come on!
14:38No, it does.
14:39It sounds exactly like her.
14:42Perfect.
14:43Who was on Sunday Night Football last night?
14:47Nah!
14:47Nah!
14:48Nah!
14:49Harbaugh!
14:49Ooh, that was Ottoman.
14:51Ottoman.
14:52Took the Steelers apart.
14:54That was a nice one.
14:55That was a nice pick.
14:56Yep.
14:56And I had the Chargers in the survivor pool as a two-and-a-half point favorite, which was
15:00a little bit of a roll of the dice.
15:02Yep.
15:03Boom.
15:04Nailed it.
15:05Anyone bow out, or it's still...
15:06Everybody stayed alive.
15:07It's you, Grandy, and...
15:09And the mystery person.
15:10I know who that is.
15:11Okay, I know you do, but you're the only person who knows who that is.
15:14The mystery Brooks.
15:15Yep.
15:16Yeah.
15:17He or she?
15:18He.
15:18Okay.
15:18Yep.
15:19All right, he's in.
15:20He took Seattle.
15:21Grandy had Denver.
15:23Grandy was the sweatball.
15:24I was fine.
15:25Yeah, Grandy was the one who...
15:27A win is a win.
15:28It's a win, yes, but Grandy needed a shower after that one.
