Trinidad and Tobago joined the rest of the world today... in commemorating the National Day of Remembrance...to honour all those who served and died in World Wars one and two.

As Sharla Kistow tells us, the nation's veterans were honoured at Memorial Park in Port of Spain.

00:00This year's National Day of Remembrance, also known as Memorial Day, was commemorated on Sunday at Memorial Park in Port of Spain.
00:12But unlike previous years, the ceremony was a much scaled-down event. It even failed to attract the customary public gathering.
00:21The annual observance honors those who served and remembers those who gave their lives during the World Wars of 1914 to 1918 and 1939 to 1945.
00:33The number of survivors have dwindled over the years and even those who are veterans of more recent conflicts were notably absent.
00:41President Christine Kangaloo led the dignitaries, which included the Attorney General and other government officials.
00:47Puppies, the symbol of remembrance, were pinned close to the hearts of those in attendance.
00:52President Christine Kangaloo laid the first wreath at the Cenotaph.
00:56She was followed by Attorney General John Jeremy, who laid a wreath on behalf of Prime Minister Kamala Posada-Bissessa.
01:02Heads of the Protective Services and representatives of foreign embassies also paid tribute to the fallen.
