00:12A free press is the cornerstone of democracy. It is the vehicle through which truth is uncovered,
00:20issues are debated, and voices that might otherwise be silenced are given a voice to be heard.
00:26A healthy, independent media encourages transparency, accountability, and dialogue,
00:33elements necessary for our communities to thrive.
00:37It is through this openness that we can address pressing social issues,
00:41challenge injustices, and promote understanding across our diverse cultures.
00:46Ms. Thomas added that there are benefits to people from free and responsible journalism.
00:53It empowers our citizens, fosters civic engagement, and helps shape a more inclusive society.
01:02We must continue to support and defend this vital institution,
01:07understanding that it is essential for the progress and resilience of Caribbean democracy.
