For the first time in recent years, there will be no Independence Day Parade or fireworks display on August 31st. The Government has announced that in light of the ongoing State of Emergency, this year's celebrations will instead be observed as a National Day of Prayer and Reflection.

00:00The government says intelligence related to the state of emergency prompted the decision to replace the 63rd Independence Day Parade and official functions with the National Day of Prayer and Reflection.
00:11The event is expected to unite citizens of all faiths and backgrounds in seeking strength, guidance and a renewed sense of national purpose.
00:21This is not the first time the parade has been cancelled. In 2020 and 2021, it was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:29In addition to the parade, the state-sponsored fireworks display has also been cancelled.
00:35Only silent fireworks will be permitted for private use to minimize noise disturbance for vulnerable persons and pets.
00:43The government says while the parade is part of the nation's heritage, safety and stability must come first.
00:51Citizens are being encouraged to mark the occasion with safe, reflective and community-oriented activities.
00:57The government insists that the adjustments are temporary and necessary.
01:03But for many, the celebrations will look and feel unlike what they have known before.
