00:00Our local mixed martial artist, Keren Bourne, is on the hunt for international glory.
00:04He jetted off today for Kazakhstan.
00:06That's where he'll represent this country at the World Sambu Championships.
00:10Bourne says he's been putting in hard work on the mats,
00:12and after meddling at the Pan-American Championships,
00:15he's now aiming to strike gold on the world stage.
00:19Well, this is the pinnacle of tournaments for the year for Sambu.
00:22It's really great. It's a big event.
00:24We have all the top, I would say, throughout the year,
00:30the top athletes that are competing all the local and all the international games come together at this event.
00:35So when you win a World Sambu Champion, you are one of the, I would say, the best in the sports,
00:43even if you come in the top five, that means you're ranking 50 in the world, right?
00:47At that point in time, I was 17 in the world, and I was just right there close to meddling,
00:53and I feel that this year could be way better than that because I'm more, I have improved a lot.
00:59I'm way stronger, way faster, and more technical when it comes to the years I've experienced that again.
01:08Well, the competition gets underway on Friday with Bourne stepping into action on Saturday.
01:13He says the road to gold, it won't be easy.
01:16The goal will actually cost, I would say, I'll have to win at least four to five fights to make goal straight without losing.
01:27Once you lose, you're knocked out.
01:28I'll have to win at least four to five fights.
01:29Okay.
