It's barely been a week since 14 year-old Archer Rondon Wilkinson won gold at the PanAm Youth and Masters Archery Championships. However, the victory sensation is still fresh in the hearts of his family. He continues to make them proud by setting a personal best in training at the South Archery Club this week.

00:00At South Arrows Archery Club, there's a lesson behind every session.
00:0514-year-old Rondon Wilkinson is back to take his place among the other archery recruits as the sun sets
00:11in Victoria Village.
00:13He has a story to tell after capturing gold at the Panamericana Youth and Masters Archery Championships in the barebow
00:20category.
00:21Well, when I won, when I made it past the bronze tournament, I got a little nervous.
00:31But I calmed myself down and told myself I was going to win this.
00:36And when you won it, how did you feel?
00:39Well, I felt proud that I was able to represent my country and got a gold medal.
00:47And excited.
00:48His father, Ron Wilkinson, remembers the tears of joy he cried.
00:52In the hotel itself, the hotel with my watch around there, and tears came to my eye.
01:00I had to let him know, go downstairs, Ron.
01:04You go downstairs, let them know I'll be downstairs shortly, just to try and compose myself.
01:12Because it was tears of joy.
01:14He took a bet with his son and he had to pay up.
01:17I told him if he brought home a medal with the club bow, I will organise his personal bow for
01:25him.
01:26So you have a personal bow for him?
01:28Well, that bow we're using is his personal bow.
01:31I bought that for him.
01:33But as it is, maybe he will need new equipment because he is outgrowing it.
01:39As it is, maybe.
01:41It's no fluke that Rondon managed to win the gold medal.
01:44His coach, Showin' Francis, had been tracking his progress.
01:47On Rondon, I could also see what he's been doing so far.
01:52So yesterday he got the score.
01:54I could see what his personal best.
01:58You know, he shot like, this time he shot like, this was probably a new record, 618, but not official.
02:04You know, and you know, it's like a montage of progress, you know, as he comes training from day to
02:10day, every week.
02:14Rondon's progress has been really great in the club.
02:17Rondon only started actually through our actually in schools program at the St. Stevens College.
02:23And I remember Rondon being a very timid shooter at first, you know, you know, you know, always to himself,
02:29keeping himself.
02:31And you will see that the way he operates, but he's very focused.
02:34Once he's on the line, like he's in his zone, right, like this sport seems to take him very well.
02:42What I would say about Rondon, though, that impressed me a lot.
02:45No matter what competition we hosted, whether it was an indoor tournament, target event, like he took part in, in
02:52Columbia, or a field event, Rondon was always there, taking part in all the tournaments.
02:57And what impressed me a lot is how we manage the field events.
03:02And the field events are events where you have targets at varying distances, and in some cases, unknown.
03:08And you have to estimate those distances without a sight.
03:11If anything, Rondon's win has brought his family closer together as they set a new target in Guyana.
