00:00The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
00:07An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
00:11A $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
00:17And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
00:21Come on, Jesus, get up. Come on, get up.
00:32Gosh, the worst feeling being in the bottom three.
00:36It felt horrible. I wasn't expecting it.
00:39But you can never know what to expect from the judges.
00:42I need to step up the game and I need to be more creative on my gown.
00:46Challenge number two stars.
00:49I'm sure we'll do well this time. Much better than the first time.
00:52Did my welders come out of my hair?
00:57It's too early.
01:00You excited? Yeah. Challenge.
01:03I actually teared up when Christiane walked in and we were saying goodbye.
01:06That's gonna happen one by one to so many people until there's just three left.
01:10So I'm just glad that I make it through.
01:13I hope we do something that's like very New York.
01:15Like weird, eccentric New York, you know?
01:18Yeah, because we'll go to Moo today.
01:20Moo.
01:21Get your app off the counter.
01:22I gotta finish my coffee.
01:24It's okay.
01:25Come on. Come on.
01:27No idea what to expect.
01:40Hello.
01:41Hi.
01:42Emilio, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity for this challenge.
01:48I'm very happy.
01:49Congratulations.
01:50Thank you very much.
01:51In this next challenge, we really want to see what you're made of.
01:55So we are sending you on a little field trip to a place that is, well, a little out there.
02:04Sneaky, tricky Heidi.
02:06I don't know if we're going to the moon.
02:08I don't know if we're going to a Broadway show.
02:10Good luck.
02:11And I'll see you on the runway.
02:12Bye.
02:13Bye.
02:14Question marks over everyone's head.
02:17We are at a farm.
02:18And as we walk up, we see Tim standing there with all of our models wearing potato sacks.
02:34Good morning, designers.
02:35Good morning.
02:36Welcome to Abma Farm.
02:37It's beautiful, isn't it?
02:38Yes.
02:39You've heard the expression, she's so beautiful, she'd even look great in a potato sack.
02:44Well, you're going to prove that point.
02:45For this challenge, you will be creating a party worthy look out of potato sacks.
02:55Oh, my God, we're making something out of burlap.
03:00The first thing that I'm thinking about, like what am I going to do?
03:03Like what are our options?
03:04This is really exciting for me.
03:06The more odd, foreign challenges, the better.
03:10There is more.
03:11The models are your clients, and they're going to be wearing the look that you want.
03:14They're going to be wearing the look that you create to a special industry event.
03:17So our model is our client, meaning that they get to have a really serious input in
03:21how the garment is put together.
03:23And owing to the fact that the models are your clients, they're going to choose the
03:27designer with whom they want to work.
03:30When we learned that the models get to pick us, it was sort of unsettling because on top
03:35of making a dress with a burlap sack, now we have to be wanted.
03:40First up is... Casey.
03:43Jay.
03:44Ah!
03:45You're back.
03:46You're back.
03:47You're back.
03:48You're back.
03:49You're back.
03:50You're back.
03:51You're back.
03:52You're back.
03:53You're back.
03:54You're back.
03:55I'm going to stick with the lovely Anna.
03:56Yeah, baby.
03:57I would still like to have Ben.
03:58I'd love to work with Ping again.
04:00Seth.
04:01Aaron.
04:02Maya, come on down.
04:03Pamela, you're hired.
04:04I'll make you hot.
04:05We have Alexis next.
04:07I'd like to choose Anthony.
04:11Okay.
04:12Alexis decided to go with Anthony instead of me.
04:19It kind of just makes me go, hmm, you know, what's up with that?
04:23Like, did she hate my design?
04:25Jesse.
04:26Okay.
04:28Alexis decided to go with Anthony instead of me.
04:31It kind of just makes me go, hmm, you know,
04:34what's up with that?
04:35Like, did she hate my design?
04:38Jessie.
04:42I think I'm gonna go with Amy.
04:48And then there were two.
04:51Valeria.
04:52Um, it's a hard choice, but...
04:57Janina, I really like your design, please.
05:00Oh, yes, thank you so much!
05:02You like me!
05:04Hi!
05:06What am I, chopped liver?
05:07So, Mila, as the last designer standing,
05:09you can join the last model standing, Lorena.
05:11All right, hey, Lorena.
05:18Designers and models, now you are going to go shopping
05:21at our farm stand.
05:23There are a lot of embellishments.
05:25Shop, thoughtfully, and very strategically.
05:29You will have one day for this challenge.
05:32You can start shopping right now, 15 minutes.
05:34Look, look, look!
05:36We've gotta make a burlap sack look like amazing fashion.
05:41I'm interested to see what happens.
05:43We get to choose from a variety of ribbons, horse hair,
05:48zippers, buttons, you know, so it's like you're kind of like
05:52half trying to have a consultation with your model,
05:54half trying to shop.
05:56I love to dye things.
05:57I think that it's important for me to keep my aesthetic.
06:00So, if someone, you know, tells me I want it to be this,
06:04this, this, and this, and pretty much designs the whole dress,
06:07that is very difficult for me.
06:10I have an idea already.
06:12I want to play with the texture of the potato sack.
06:15I think I can create a very interesting,
06:17very simple garment.
06:20This is really, like, feminine.
06:22Lorena and I started talking, and as it turns out,
06:26we have some similar tastes, I think.
06:28Her idea of a cute dress would be something that's flattering,
06:32but edgy at the same time.
06:33So, I think it's going to be great.
06:35Designers, models, one minute remains.
06:38I like hippie, flowy.
06:40Alexis already is proving to be very verbal
06:45about what she wants.
06:46Like, sparkly, too, and, like, a party dress.
06:49I would like to make Alexis happy
06:52without sacrificing my staying here, period.
06:57Time is up.
06:59You must stop shopping now.
07:02So, grab your potato sack and follow me.
07:06Palatine.
07:16Working with burlap is not that bad.
07:18I think the problem is trying to make it look expensive.
07:22No one wants to look like they're wearing a burlap sack,
07:24so that's the real challenge.
07:29Designers, you have the raw materials of your challenge.
07:35Your models are indeed your client,
07:37but don't lose sight of who you are as a designer.
07:39You have until midnight tonight, so make it work, everybody.
07:42Make it work.
07:46If there's one challenge to have immunity in,
07:48I think this is the one.
07:50You have to create something that they're going to wear
07:52to an event, and you're using one of the most basic fabrics
07:56in the world, burlap is probably as old as Moses.
08:01So, Brittany wants a hoochie, sexy dress.
08:04I'm going to make her look really sexy,
08:06and I'm just going to add a lot of detail
08:08using ribbon in the dress.
08:10Getting a light brown to turn blue
08:12is not going to be the easiest thing in the world,
08:14but luckily, I learned how to do an ombra,
08:17where a color shades from one color to another.
08:19So the kind of challenge we got seems to fit me perfectly.
08:24This design is going to be just very voluminous
08:27and gathered and billowy.
08:30The center will overlap and open up when she walks
08:33to kind of look like an upside-down flower, like a tulip,
08:36like the petals are opening up.
08:38I think it's very important to make my model happy.
08:41I mean, as witness today, I mean, I can't help but wonder,
08:44was my former model not happy with me and my design?
08:48It's funny that she would pick you over me,
08:51because I thought we had a fine rapport together
08:53and everything, so.
08:54Mila has decided that she wants to confront me.
09:00I know what the behind thought process
09:03for that statement was, basically.
09:04I know that I'm so better than you,
09:06I design better than you,
09:07so I can't imagine why she would choose you.
09:09Yeah, whatever, it's her loss.
09:12Ooh.
09:13Not about you, not about you.
09:15Okay, don't worry.
09:16About me.
09:17I love my feelings in Atlanta, Georgia.
09:19I know that it is a competition,
09:21so being courteous sometimes isn't an option for some people.
09:25I'm going to take care of some diet savings.
09:28But Mila can kiss me and my entire family's asses.
09:32Coming up on Project Runway.
09:34This treatment is going to be one of these two.
09:36Really?
09:37I don't know.
09:38I'm flabbergasted.
09:40Forgive the pun, you've skirted the challenge.
09:47This is a one-day challenge, and time is an issue.
09:49The fact that you're using burlap,
09:50which is a very difficult material to work with,
09:53a lot of designers are not going to be able
09:55to execute the vision that they have in their mind.
09:58I know my way of working is very different,
10:01but I was among the top three designers,
10:05so I feel more comfortable and confident
10:08of my way of doing things.
10:09Oh, my God!
10:11You're doing potato frisps!
10:12As we were grabbing trims,
10:13I also grabbed a couple potatoes
10:14and began immediately thinking about how I could use them
10:16and the dye to print a pattern on the fabric.
10:19Hi, everybody.
10:30Good morning, James.
10:31I'm going to check in with all of you,
10:33a little on the earlier side,
10:35because I'm eager to know what you're doing.
10:36And since I'm here, I'll come to you, Pamela.
10:39Well, I'm working on a dress
10:41that's a bustier corset dress.
10:43This ombre is fabulous looking.
10:46I love doing it as one of my specialties.
10:48We have the corset.
10:49Yeah, the corset to you.
10:50What's happening below the corset?
10:51It's all one piece.
10:52Should it be one piece?
10:56I kind of like it that way.
10:59I mean, when it's on the runway,
11:01no one will know if it's one piece or it's two.
11:04But I'm just thinking purely from a logistical aspect,
11:07from a time aspect, and from a fit aspect,
11:09isn't it much more complicated to have this be a single piece
11:12than to have it be two?
11:13It could be, except for that I finished the bodice already.
11:16All I have to do is lay it on top of this.
11:18So now it's mostly all straight seams.
11:19If you're confident, I'm with you.
11:20OK.
11:21I'm with you.
11:24Mila.
11:25Hi, Tim.
11:26What's going on?
11:27Well, this treatment in the front,
11:29in the center front and center back,
11:30is going to be one of these two.
11:32Now the other thing that I was trying to incorporate
11:35is this tool, just a tiny little bit of it,
11:38around the neckline with a raw edge.
11:40Can I just ask you why?
11:41The model really liked it.
11:43And she gravitated towards it.
11:44No, I know.
11:45I know.
11:46That's compromising the integrity of what you're doing.
11:48Well, I'm glad you said that,
11:49because I was trying to figure out a way to use it.
11:51Don't.
11:52OK.
11:53Don't.
11:54I'm here to see this.
11:55Go sew.
11:56OK.
11:57All right.
11:58Thanks, Tim.
11:59So how's Jay?
12:00I'm doing something my style.
12:02And you're treating the edges of all of that?
12:04Yes.
12:05So these things will pop out, because they're so bright.
12:07So they're going on after you dye it?
12:09Yes, after.
12:10And you're not worried about time?
12:11Mm-mm.
12:12Really?
12:13Yeah.
12:14All this, this has to be dyed.
12:15It has to dry.
12:16And everything is going to have this trim?
12:18Yes.
12:19I'm flabbergasted.
12:22All right.
12:23I'm going to leave you alone right now.
12:25OK.
12:26Because do this.
12:27I'm just glad I'm not in your shoes.
12:28OK.
12:29All right, Jay.
12:30Thank you so much.
12:31Hi, Ping.
12:32Hi, Ping.
12:33Talk to me.
12:34I want to create a neck, like a necklace here.
12:38It will be solid.
12:39So you're carving it, basically, out of here.
12:41Exactly.
12:42Got it.
12:43I find it intriguing.
12:44Yes, I know.
12:45I'm always intriguing.
12:47And then my model just wanted something
12:52that make her legs longer.
12:54But where does the skirt end?
12:56Skirt end should be short.
12:58I told her it's going to be short.
13:00OK.
13:01Because can I just tell you, if it's just an inch or two
13:04below her crotch, that runway is elevated.
13:08Those judges can look.
13:11You don't want it to be vulgar.
13:12That's my point.
13:13Right.
13:14OK.
13:15I can lower it.
13:16No problem.
13:17I can just play this part.
13:18I will just say this.
13:19You have a lot of work to do.
13:20I know.
13:21OK.
13:22Go to work.
13:24Thank you, Ping.
13:25Thanks.
13:26How's Amy?
13:27I have a skirt.
13:28I have eight panels.
13:29And five of them I still have to dry.
13:30OK.
13:31So I'm a little bit concerned about that.
13:33But I love the treatment of them.
13:35So I did kind of like a dip dye with two different colors.
13:38Yeah.
13:39What's the shape of the top?
13:40My model wanted an open back.
13:42She wanted puffy sleeves with a cuff.
13:44Oh, jeez.
13:45You're the designer.
13:46It doesn't sound like you.
13:47No, it doesn't at all.
13:48If the judges don't like the look, they won't care if your model does.
13:52That's true.
13:53OK.
13:54OK.
13:55Make it work, Amy.
13:56Thanks, Tim.
13:58Jesus.
13:59Yes, Mr. Tim.
14:00What are you up to?
14:01Well, my motto is Brittany.
14:03She has an amazing body, so she wanted a really, really fitted skirt.
14:07This skirt's going to be like this, and I'm going to use this thicker ribbon to make him thicker as we go, and then add this down.
14:15So is the burlap completely disappearing?
14:18Um, yes.
14:21The challenge was to work with a potato sack.
14:25The skirt's 100% ribbons.
14:28Where's the potato sack?
14:30Underneath.
14:32I think that's a problem.
14:35It's not intended to be a potato sack undergarment on which we have 100% embellishment.
14:42I would say, forgive the pun, you skirted the challenge.
14:48OK.
14:49OK.
14:50All right, Jesus.
14:51Thank you, Tim.
14:52Think, think, think, and then work, work, work.
14:53Cool.
14:54I did cover all the potato sack thing, but I think it was just one of those details that I think that made my dress look cocktail in the evening.
15:01It's going to look good in the runway, and I have to be Jesus.
15:06All right, designers.
15:07We'll have a big runway show, and I want those judges' socks to go blowing off their feet.
15:13I'm sending in your models.
15:15OK?
15:16So make it work.
15:17I'll see you tomorrow.
15:19Bye, Tim.
15:20Oh, come in, come in, come in.
15:23Come in, come in, come in, come in, come in.
15:25You know, you know, OK, here's the idea.
15:28I can't really help.
15:29I think it came out.
15:31Sarah is liking the idea that we're doing, like, the bare shoulders and that we're sculpting it in.
15:36So it would be a little sexy, but not totally naked.
15:41Alice had an idea of what she wanted her dress to look like, which is why it was even more important that if I was going to stick with my aesthetic and my idea, it was going to have to blow her away no matter what.
15:52I really want to get you into it.
15:53I want to make sure your buttocks are covered.
15:55Yeah, let's make sure the buttocks are covered. That would be nice.
15:58I love pink. She's very good at that Asian influence look, but her lack of experience in actual construction scares me.
16:08Now, OK, to keep it down.
16:11Why did Tim say he was worried?
16:13He said because I use too much ribbon, so you have to sell it.
16:16Brittany loved the dress, but she was also a little concerned about what I had told her that Tim had told me.
16:22But I'm really confident. I feel that she's going to back me up in the runway, and I feel that I'm still going to be in the competition at this point.
16:27It's not as low as I wanted it to be.
16:30There was a few things that I was thinking of, so I just want to put it out there.
16:34I wanted to know what you thought about the buttons and the fringy thing.
16:39Alexis is wanting blue buttons on a cocktail dress.
16:47I don't know.
16:49That looks so cool. I'm glad you're happy.
16:52My model really digs the design, so in a way, I felt that, you know, I was blessed to have Alexis. Just me, basically.
17:02You're going to be sultry.
17:04Oh, perfect.
17:05Go, go, go.
17:06Go, go, go.
17:07You've got your work set up.
17:08Are you?
17:09I can come on time.
17:12I am okay on time at this point.
17:15People who are dying their fabric are definitely at a time disadvantage.
17:19It's literally just a disaster area for everyone involved.
17:23Oh, my God. Why is this navy blue?
17:27The base of the skirt turned out navy blue, and that's not the color that I am looking for.
17:34.
17:36It's very stressful to find myself in a situation where I'm half done at midnight the night before the fashion show.
17:48Coming up on Project Runway.
17:51Yeah, push them up, baby. Push them up.
17:53Everyone's very panicked.
17:55I just want to finish my garment.
17:57We're going down to the runway now.
18:06I hope my dress gets done in time.
18:08Okay, I have a few things still to do. I've got to turn up the hem, and I've got to, um, fine-tune the back closures.
18:14And I don't want to be one of those people that sews people into their dresses.
18:17You'll be fine.
18:19Yeah.
18:20Put on your game face.
18:21Don't let them know I'm terrified.
18:27Shoes or boots? Shoes or boots?
18:30As soon as I, like, get to the workroom, though, I'm going to be, like, in full adrenaline mode.
18:35I know.
18:36There comes a point where, like, I almost feel like I'm not going to finish.
18:39I know.
18:40I'm freaking out about the fact that I have a lot to do. I just want to finish my garment.
18:49Come on, guys. Let's go to Parson's.
18:51Parson's, here we come.
18:52Hi.
18:53So, Janine, how's yours coming?
19:05I have a few things to do.
19:07Yeah, me too.
19:08Yeah.
19:09I am stressed for time, which is, you know, I'm getting used to at this point.
19:13Coffee did not do its job.
19:16Can you just put this through? I pulled it through, and now it will work.
19:24Oh, it's attached to the zipper tape, so no. Okay.
19:32Good morning, everybody.
19:33Good morning, Tim.
19:35All right, designers, you have two hours to send your models to the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room and the Garnier Hair Salon.
19:42All right?
19:44Use the bluefly.com wall very thoughtfully.
19:48And use every second you have this morning to pull these looks together.
19:53I know you have a lot to do.
19:55All right?
19:56I'm sending in your models.
19:57Make it work.
19:58Thank you, Tim.
20:00Thank you, Tim.
20:06Did you try anything on?
20:07Not at this moment.
20:08I think we're good because we know that the, you know, the muslin fit beautifully.
20:11The dress, like, speaks enough for itself.
20:14The second that she saw the look, she fell in love with it.
20:17I do feel I was able to balance not only what my client wanted, but also my personal aesthetic.
20:25It's very hectic this time.
20:27Everyone was very panicked.
20:28They were running around like crazy.
20:30And I think half of the contestants are going to have to sew their models into the dress.
20:35My first thought when I see Ping's design is...
20:38It's like exaggerate your pelvic movement.
20:41What?
20:42The garment's not functional.
20:44It doesn't cover her ass.
20:47And so, you know, I'm worried.
20:49But, I mean, then I look over at Ping and she's smiling.
20:53So I'm like, maybe I'm not worried.
20:55Maybe it's supposed to be an ass flap.
20:56I don't know.
20:57It's just all very strange.
20:58You look stunning.
21:02Really?
21:03I don't know.
21:04I don't know.
21:05I don't know.
21:06It's getting really cold.
21:07I don't know.
21:08It sucks.
21:09Is it all in here?
21:10Is it just runway day?
21:11Yeah, push him up, baby.
21:12Push him up.
21:13Pamela, her model tried on her dress and I was like, this thing has a big old butt.
21:24Like, it looks huge in the garment.
21:25Designers, models, ten minutes.
21:26Use your time well.
21:27I will be back.
21:29There's so much going on right here that the zipper, there's not enough room for it to slide
21:33up on a tee.
21:34Is it killing you?
21:35Casey?
21:36Everyone is running around.
21:37You're like, this is a big old butt.
21:38This is a big old butt.
21:39It looks huge in the garment.
21:43Designers, models, ten minutes.
21:46Use your time well.
21:47I will be back.
21:49There's so much going on right here that the zipper, there's not enough room for it to slide up on a tee.
21:57Is it killing you?
22:02Casey, everyone is running around like chickens with their heads cut off. It's crazy.
22:11All right, designers, models, I never dreamed that humble potato sacks could look this grand.
22:25You've done a fabulous job. Bring your equipment with you. We're going down to the runway now.
22:30Let's go. Beautiful. Mila, it's just you. Thank you. All right, that's it.
22:53Coming up on Project Runway, the dress is not sophisticated.
22:57I have a feeling that a plain potato sack would be more flattering on her.
23:09Welcome to the runway. As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
23:16There are 15 of you here, and after tonight, there will be 14.
23:20Your challenge this week was based on the age-old saying that a beautiful woman could look good in anything, even a potato sack.
23:30Your job was to turn a plain potato sack into a party look for your model.
23:35All right, let's meet the judges.
23:37First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
23:41Hey, guys. Hi.
23:42Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
23:45Hello.
23:47American icon, model, actress, and adventurer, Lauren Hutton.
23:53Awesome.
23:57We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
23:59One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
24:04Emilio, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity, and he cannot be eliminated this week.
24:11All right, let's start the show.
24:12The dress turned out to exceed my expectations, and Alexis looked like she was going to a party that she would be appreciated by people who appreciate true fashion and glamour.
24:28As soon as she walked on the runway, I not only see that her buttocks is revealed, but also the skirt part of this dress really looks like potato sacks.
24:47I'm ecstatic. I feel that it was classic and still young and modern. It's timeless, and it could be appropriate for this year or ten years from now.
25:10My dress actually turned out almost exactly the way I envisioned it.
25:13Not only did I make my model happy, my client, but I also feel like I made something that someone would wear to a nightclub out of a potato sack.
25:27I believe that I maintained my own perspective as a designer, but I think ultimately the vision that we shared together resulted in something that was pleasing to both of us.
25:38It's really awesome. Ultimately, I'm the only one that did pants, so I think it's definitely the look and the sophistication with still that youthful and that fun kind of edge. It's definitely a mix of everything I like to do.
25:53Our challenge was to take a potato sack, transform it into something beautiful for a client, yet stick to who we are as a designer and our point of view. I achieved that a hundred, two and a half percent.
26:10It's definitely my aesthetic. I also am all about sticking with the kind of organic qualities of the burlap, and I think that that was communicated in the garment.
26:24I am so happy. I feel like that dress described where I'm coming from as a designer. This was a good challenge for me.
26:34I'm very happy with the garment that I made. It's form-fitting, it fits well, and it's flirty, and it looks very Jay Nicholas, sorry I am.
26:47What Holly and I wanted to do was keep the integrity of the burlap. She got the dress length, the colors that she wanted, and I got the fit silhouette, and the overall look that I was envisioning for her.
27:04I think that my dress looked elegant on the runway, because I think that that's one of the biggest things, that I'm really, really good with construction, so I felt that my dress was really well constructed.
27:18I am happy with my dress, but I'm a little concerned because I didn't take Tim's advice.
27:27You know, I think that I'm showing something that's very different from what everybody else is.
27:31And like, I went above and beyond, and produced something that was amazing quality, amazing finish, and definitely made my client happy.
27:40I have to say, it wasn't my favorite dress that I have done, but I made it work. It wasn't at all what I had planned on doing. That's what happens when you're using a sack.
27:50I'm fairly confident with it that it is answering the client's needs, and it actually is looking like faded denim, which was part of my idea is to make it look like kind of blue jeans.
28:05I'm like, ooh, the back is sticking out a little bit more than I had intended. Uh-oh, that's not good. Well, don't turn toward the judges too much.
28:12If I call your name, please step forward. Pamela, please step forward. Mila. Ping. Jay. Jesus. Amy. If I did not call your name, congratulations. Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge. You can leave the runway.
28:46The six of you will present the highest and the lowest scores. One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out. Let's bring out your models.
28:58I would like to start with Jay. Tell us about your look.
29:10I love to make patterns. I love to show style lines and, you know, adding things like this to make it, you know, feel so feminine.
29:17When she first came out, I said, did he cheat? Are they feathers? What is it? Did he shred organza? Really well done. Thank you.
29:25I think he's made burlap look expensive. Very, very nicely abstract. It's lovely. Pamela.
29:31What I did was a narrow dress in a blue shade and did kind of corset shaping in the top. I did the dyeing and got it to do an ombre to kind of give a faded blue jean look.
29:43The dress is too short and too tight on your model. It also looks almost not sophisticated.
29:52You're talking about a girl who can kind of wear anything. You know, here it is. She can wear a potato sack. Well, I have a feeling that a plain potato sack would be more flattering on her.
30:03I have to say the dyeing is beautifully done. Yeah. It is. You guys are going to an industry event, so will you be comfortable wearing that?
30:10Um. Wow. That says it all. You don't have to even say anything anymore now. Well, um, uh, uh, uh. Mila, tell us about your look.
30:19I just sort of visualized this color, and I thought, can I push myself to make something that is actually a little bit futuristic and modern out of this fabric that's associated with, you know, the farm.
30:35I have to say I'm absolutely in love with this dress. I don't like this gaping. I like that it gapes.
30:41That you feel like you can sort of see a little bit booby here and there, but not everything. Well, the boys will like it.
30:47You went from the farm to the future, and it looks fantastic. Thank you.
30:54Okay, Ping, tell us about your look.
30:56Originally, I was expecting, um, um, the skin color would contrast with the patterns I created on this,
31:04but her skin is so, so close to the original color of the, of this fabric, so it's not much contrast.
31:13I like it, Ping. Thank you.
31:17I mean, if you turn around, we see a butt.
31:19Yeah, it does.
31:20We see a butt.
31:21That's a problem.
31:22She could go to a party with a thousand people.
31:24They'll notice you.
31:25They'll notice you and that your entire ass is hanging out.
31:29And I should pay more attention on the instructions.
31:32You know, first they said it's an industrial party.
31:35I really thought that was a county fair potato party.
31:38You do have an edgy eye.
31:39You do.
31:40You know, but does it really translate into real fashion?
31:44That's, you know, what I'm concerned about.
31:46Once she keeps working it, Will, you've got a lot of competition.
31:49Jesus, if we're talking about percentage right now, how much percentage is potato sack and how much percentage is other fabric?
31:58So the whole bodice is potato sack and then I layer the ribbon on top of it.
32:04And I'm not so sure if I like that.
32:07I thought it was a whole other material.
32:09You know.
32:10You sewn together ribbons close together.
32:12Is that what he did?
32:13Yes.
32:14I feel like I don't see enough of the challenge in a way.
32:17Dresses should be like paintings, especially ones like this.
32:20And that's sort of a very confused salt on the eye painting.
32:26Jesus, what I would really like to see from you is something a little cooler, younger.
32:34Amy, tell us about your look.
32:36For Alison and I, it was really important to retain the organic quality of the burlap.
32:42And the top is just a simple cowl with an open back, which is something that Alison really likes, an open back.
32:49And she wanted something that moves and makes her feel fun and pretty on the runway.
32:55You used the fabric, but made it flirty, made it feminine.
33:00You didn't try to disguise it.
33:02You've taken burlap and made it into a real working dress material.
33:08Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
33:10We're going to have a little chat and then we call you back.
33:13You can leave the runway.
33:15I do have to say as a general comment to this challenge, you know, making clothes out of potato sack material, I thought it was fantastic.
33:29I was blown away.
33:30Spectacular.
33:31Let's talk about the designers that we did like.
33:37Who first?
33:38How about Jay?
33:39Love that transformation.
33:41You would have never guessed that was a burlap sack.
33:44And a lot of work also.
33:46He really did everything by hand.
33:48There was no smoke and mirrors.
33:50Of course.
33:51The heaviness of the burlap was made light again by the featheriness of everything to the frame.
33:56Totally.
33:57No, he did a great job.
33:58Yeah.
33:59I thought that was an amazing dress.
34:04I really loved it.
34:06The last word that you would think of when you say burlap bag is hot.
34:11You know, edgy and hot.
34:13It was a real collaboration between Mila and Lorena.
34:18It had that, they're both of their aesthetics.
34:20And it was good because she has a good look too.
34:25Okay, let's move on to Amy.
34:26That was a very sophisticated dress, very chic dress.
34:30She's the only one who actually let you see the potato sack so that you knew it was potato sack, but she transformed it.
34:38She gloried in it to buys the front and have those incredibly chic, strong sides that halter sides.
34:46That was, I was very impressed with that.
34:52Let's move on to the designers that we weren't quite that impressed with.
34:57Let's start with Jesus.
34:59It really bothered me how the color just stopped at the center scene.
35:02Yeah, it was weird.
35:03It makes your ass also look asymmetrical.
35:05So you have one big cheek and one small cheek.
35:07Yeah.
35:08I'm concerned about his sense of color.
35:10Or lack thereof.
35:11Yes.
35:12I mean, all I've seen is brown and this pea green.
35:17Let's move on to Ping.
35:19I don't know if she really doesn't understand half of the things that we tell her or if she's trying to use that for a benefit.
35:26But clearly, every other designer understood the challenge.
35:29I don't know.
35:30I think she doesn't listen.
35:31You know, she's sending her model out bare butt.
35:34If she had been able to properly line that, I'll bet she could have made something interesting out of it.
35:38I agree.
35:39You know, the question is, do we want to see more from Ping?
35:48Okay, let's move on to Pamela.
35:50I really question not only the creativity, but then I have to question the fact that this dress made this girl with a great body look bigger.
36:00Where the seams were, the widest part of the hips, she's got the widest part of the seam and nothing is pointing.
36:05No, literally like an arrow.
36:06I want to have a big butt.
36:07Yeah.
36:08I do have to say, though, Pamela's dress was well made.
36:11She dyed it to make it look like denim.
36:13It did look exactly like denim.
36:15Like denim.
36:16Okay, so we've made up our mind.
36:22All right, let's bring them back out.
36:32The six of you represent the best and the worst.
36:35One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
36:45Amy, you're in.
36:46You can leave the runway.
36:48Jay, you turned a burlap potato sack into a beautiful and sophisticated cocktail dress.
36:53Your look was perfectly appropriate for an industry event.
36:58Mila, what you did with that material was amazing.
37:15It was modern, sleek and unexpected.
37:20Jay, you're in.
37:24You're in.
37:26And you're the winner of this challenge.
37:28Congratulations.
37:31Thank you so much.
37:33It leaves the runway.
37:34Wow, I can't believe this is happening.
37:37I'm really happy to win the challenge.
37:39I felt like I was in heaven.
37:41It's so amazing.
37:42I won!
37:47Cool.
37:50Mila, you're in.
37:53You can leave the runway.
37:59Ping.
38:02You're in.
38:04You can leave the runway.
38:05Thanks.
38:08Pamela.
38:10Jesus.
38:11One of you will be out.
38:15Pamela.
38:18Your dress was not at all flattering for your model.
38:21We question your taste level and ability to be fashion forward.
38:28Jesus.
38:30You missed the point of the challenge.
38:32Instead of using the potato sack as your main fabric, you covered it up.
38:38Your dress was mundane and matronly.
38:42Jesus.
38:43You're in.
38:44You're in.
38:45Thank you so much.
38:46And I'll show you I'm capable of doing more next time.
38:48It leaves the runway.
38:49I'm sorry, Pamela.
38:50That means you're out.
38:51Thank you very much for the opportunity.
38:52If he doesn't.
38:54Bye-bye.
38:55Thank you very much.
38:56Bye-bye.
38:57Thank you very much.
38:58It's gonna sound hugely dramatic.
38:59But I fall in love with people very easily.

39:01But I fall in love with people very easily.
39:02It's gonna sound hugely dramatic.

39:05But I fall in love with people very easily.
39:09All people in this competition.
39:10I'm really, really proud of them.
39:11I'm sorry, Pamela.
39:12I'm sorry, Pamela.
39:13That means you're out.
39:14That means you're out.
39:15Thank you very much for the opportunity.
39:16If he doesn't.
39:17Bye-bye.
39:18Thank you very much.
