00:00hey guys welcome back to new prices once again this is your host and today i'm going to be doing
00:06yet another anime review okay now today's video i'm going to be reviewing boogie bob fandom
00:19all right now this anime a bit different from you know the usual suspects that i
00:26have been reviewing on the channel you know i've mostly been reviewing and yet have been recently
00:33came out or and yet have came out since 2010 ish this anime on the other hand it's more closer to
00:42the 90s early 2000s ever so it looks dated it's one of those older different enemies we're talking
00:54pre oversaturated pre shonen and all those cliches you know because if you think about the shonen
01:04ever really kicked off in the 2000s like came with now to one one piece but this was right before that
01:12all right so it's it might came off as a more fresh anime for you guys especially the younger new guys
01:21here um boogie pop phantom the plot for this anime well to explain it the premise of this anime is
01:34is this right you have this big light beam that strikes in the um all the sky strikes into the
01:42city one night and then like sometime after that you have all these random events happening and these
01:52serial killings happening and then you have like um people blaming boogie pop on this scene at all it's
02:04you know an urban legend who's had to be the personification of death right um this has a
02:11pretty ensemble cast when it comes to its character lineup um none of which seems to be any importance
02:21based on what i'm seeing um the main character seems to be boogie pop but it doesn't show up a lot in this
02:31show you know um it's one of those it's one of these types of shows where no characters really the
02:41protagonist or the antagonist or the antagonist or any any of that stuff it's just focus on the story
02:49it's story driven it's not character driven or anything like that it's on the story what's actually
02:59going on the characters are pretty expendable for the most part right so with that being said you have
03:07the whole structure of the show you know in terms of storytelling there's two types of main structures
03:15linear and non-linear when it comes to telling a story this seems to go in the non-linear category
03:23which is very rare when it comes to these types of enemies and they usually follow the linear pattern
03:30and we don't really see enemies anymore that go non-linear because it can get confusing at times
03:37for the audience you know these two years and i just want to make sure it's in a linear straight
03:45mode so it could be easier to pick up with the audience to want to make sure that people think
03:50to that so this anime has quite a bit of balls to go in that non-linear direction now i'm not really
03:58against the whole idea of having non-linear storytelling i'm actually open to it i actually welcome it but
04:07in this case with this anime where it's focused almost on the story right it's very little to
04:18probably even no character development at all given how expendable the characters are when you have that
04:25type of storytelling toppled together with this non-linear format it comes up kind of boring in a sense
04:37not saying it's bad it just comes off boring even though they might have some interesting stuff
04:43going on because to be honest there's a lot of interesting stuff that goes on in this anime and
04:48there's a really interesting themes as well you know each episode you get like to see
04:55different characters and different events going on um what happens though is that some instances there are
05:07tied together right you might see um the same scene over again and you might also see it from a different
05:16perspective you know so there's all that going on um there's a lot of visual cues going on as well
05:26so you have to pay attention to make sure you don't miss anything that might be you know a key
05:34visual in terms of figuring out the story then there's also the the music right it has that sort of
05:48synthesized music style like music you would hear in blade runner for example there's some music like that
05:57that that you get throughout the show it sounds really good you know i i really dug that style um
06:05it it's more of a relaxing um chill sort of vibes you get the interesting thing i will say too
06:13is that there's essential themes that through this um story you know with the characters
06:21the characters you have these ideas and these sort of motives about escapism and relationship
06:31change and memory and all that set of um themes you know stuff that makes you think about
06:40reality and society you know that sort of like themes and it does that pretty well um
06:50um you know it doesn't give you any clear answers which is a common thing when it comes to these
06:58types of um stories you know they tend to be more open-ended more open-minded
07:05so you can interpret it in like different ways so i i like that about it
07:12the animation style it's pretty dated which is to be expected from a 2000s anime i didn't expect anything
07:23you know screenshot anything that's above average much this is about as much as you'd expect it to be
07:35from something that came out in the year 2000 though the quality looks like it's 90s
07:43you know i guess it's probably the the resolution i watch it on but it looked like the voice acting
07:50it's painfully average it's mostly because of how some of the characters are portrayed in the show
07:58sometimes they the voice saying okay sounds pretty weird um it's not bad it's it's average in that
08:07aspect um i don't know if you'd probably like this sub better because you know me i prefer to watch dub
08:16because i don't want to read the screen constantly just to get what the characters are saying but
08:22but the dub it's the dub is watchable by standards of anime dubs and that's pretty much all i can
08:32really say when it comes to the anime uh to tell you the truth with the whole storyline i'm still trying
08:40to figure it out you know um given how this style and theme with the story there's much yet to be
08:51figured out and to tell the truth i don't really know how i'll rate it to be honest because parts of
08:59it felt a bit boring um and there were parts of that are actually really interesting now i will say
09:07this this anime it has a prequel which if you guys don't know is a sequel that takes place before the
09:15mentioned story and i don't know exactly who made that decision or why they did that that they you
09:24know decide to tell this story first and then they go and tell the origin story afterwards the format
09:30that they tell a story in the structure it doesn't work when you have the prequel that that comes out
09:38after this but the thing was i didn't even know there was a prequel until after i finished watching
09:43this because in a search results of boogie pop phantom i didn't really come across the prequel you know
09:50this came out first this is more popular the prequel boogie pop and others which takes place before this
09:58it came out in 2019 that's what i know about it um i'm gonna have to save my overall verdict on this anime
10:10till after i get to reviewing that because of the way this anime was pulled out you know but that's
10:21pretty much you know the the whole situation is amazing from my perspective there's manga there's
10:30light novels and it's even a live action right so there's a lot here to go if you want to go into
10:36the story but from the anime perspective
10:40i can just mostly say that it's a mixed bag for now i'm just going to get my actual verdict
10:53stay tuned for my review on boogie pop and others which is from what i've read that is actually
11:04takes place right before the events happen here to provide more context to what happens all right
11:13guys so that being it sums up my review or i would say half review overall for this anime um let me know
11:23what you think in the comment section down below and what you think about boogie pop phantom or the whole
11:29boogie pop franchise in channel uh be sure to check out my other videos and i guess i'll see you guys later
