00:00All right, as always, you can go to YouTube channel My Medical Nightmare and see 40 plus
00:07hours video on everything that happened to me.
00:10All right, courtesy Alabama Public Radio dated November 15, 2024.
00:16Birmingham approves $1 million redevelopment agreement for Northeast YMCA renovation.
00:23They say the organization is joined with the city and area partners for what is being called
00:30the Roebuck Collaborative, a $15.3 million project to improve the East Birmingham community.
00:38The Northeast YMCA will receive major renovations to its current 18,000 square foot facility
00:44and a new 8,000 square foot addition with a premier healthcare center, mental health and
00:51nutrition counseling, and family and community resource center.
00:55AL.com reported on November 8th that Christ Health Center will run the attached pediatric
01:01health clinic.
01:02Jefferson County is contributing $1.9 million to the project and around $9.5 million is
01:10being raised in private donations.
01:12Expected to open mid-spring 2025.
01:16Others involved Habitat for Humanity, Impact Family Counseling, United Way of Central,
01:21Alabama, Meals on Wheels, and Alabama First Class Pre-K and Community Food Bank of Central
01:28Alabama.
01:29I urge the partners to reconsider the involvement of Christ Health Center.
01:36I was a patient and customer of Christ Health in 2019.
01:41I had a really negative experience.
01:43I'll go into the details of what happened to me.
01:45And I think all concerned should be aware of who your partners and team members are, and
01:52you need to do some due diligence on this organization.
01:56I was a patient for Christ Health Center, Dr. Terry Daniel Smith, MD, as well as nurse practitioner
02:04Anna Musgraves in 2019.
02:07I had a broken skull injury and head trauma that I almost died from.
02:13The wound became infected with parasites, as well as three inch long insects and worms that
02:21you can see in various x-rays, MRI, and CT that I had done.
02:27At the time I visited Christ Health Center, I was trying to get an MRI scan, and I had a lot
02:34of trouble doing this.
02:35I believe that some person involved in my health care and treatment may have gone to some length
02:43to deny me health care, specifically more detailed scans on this area.
02:49Because days before the Christ Health visit, I went to the Ascension St. Vincent's East Emergency
02:56Department where I had a computed tomography scan of my head and cervical area of my neck.
03:02I was misdiagnosed in that scan.
03:06The radiologist and the doctors in the emergency room, they would not note an injury that I
03:13later found in the images.
03:16And I'll put them up here so everybody can see.
03:18My rundown of issues with Christ Health Center, Birmingham, Alabama.
03:23I believe I received no measurable level of service in my visit.
03:27I was charged the same amount of money, $110, to see the doctor and MD as the nurse, a nurse
03:37practitioner.
03:38Other medical practices around Birmingham, I paid roughly half of that price.
03:46Christ Health is partners with Ascension St. Vincent's Hospital.
03:50And it looks like either Christ Health decided to ignore my injury or were ordered to ignore
03:58my injury.
03:59And I believe this is to protect the reputations and million dollar salaries of the quote professionals
04:04unquote involved.
04:07I also believe it may have been patient dumped.
04:09And that's a violation of EMTALA, E-M-T-A-L-A, in the course of my seeking treatment.
04:15I was a self-paid patient.
04:17I had no insurance and I could provide no stated source of income.
04:22Dr. Terry Daniel Smith, MD, outright refused to grant me a referral for an MRI.
04:29Just a few days later, I got that MRI.
04:32I had to pay cash out of pocket.
04:34And broken bone surrounded by infection shows up in that scan.
04:40Broken bone also shows up in the CT scan.
04:43He claims in his notes in my medical chart to have reviewed in detail.
04:49I was billed $50 for a hemoglobin blood test and electrocardiogram I never received.
04:56And yeah, I think taking money from people who don't have anything, such as myself, is obscene.
05:03Nurse Musgraves wrote in her report that she suspected psych etiology to explain my symptomology.
05:10And this is absolutely wrong.
05:12Broken skull bone is visible in the MRI, CT, and X-ray that I've had done.
05:18Nurse practitioner Anna Musgraves agreed to give a referral when I secured my MRI.
05:26So I had to go out and find another medical practice with the equipment who could do the scan.
05:32I was given three avenues of financial assistance to pursue, and all three of these led to dead ends.
05:41I did not qualify.
05:43This is for Ascension Access to Care, Cooper Green Hospital, and UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
05:49After I paid $500 cash out of pocket for an MRI at American Health Imaging in downtown Birmingham on the south side,
06:00the diagnostic center staff told me that they needed a medical referral.
06:06I informed them to call Christ Health Center in Woodlawn.
06:11They were put on hold 15 minutes.
06:14And then someone, we don't know who, at Christ Health Center hung up the telephone.
06:20They backed out on giving that referral.
06:22I believe somebody didn't want me to get this MRI scan because it would show the truth of an injury that I was told I did not have.
06:31A medical doctor I had no interaction with, also strangely edited, and signed off on my records and chart days following that visit.
06:43This was shortly after I lodged my first official complaint for lack of service from Christ Health.
06:51This doctor was Beverly Vanderpool.
06:54I put all my records from this visit in several hours' worth of video on YouTube channel, My Medical Nightmare.
07:03You can go there and see my side of this story.
07:07Deborah Pickens also tells me that a letter with a statement was going to be put in the mail to me after that August 2023 meeting.
07:18And what I can say is I have not yet received this promised letter.
07:24One year later, they know my address, too, because they sent me those bills for those medical services that weren't performed on me.
07:31So people out there looking at health care options in the Birmingham, Alabama area, please take my experience to heart.
07:40And I would advise that you look elsewhere when seeking medical treatment from a doctor or a nurse.
07:48So people out there waiting they don't see the case and they see them are Syrian areas.
07:56And we've got some services that they'll see in their faces.
07:59But we've got some reassuring in this list.
08:01Here's the line in the road.
08:03And I really want to change it, we need to snap out of school who've been out there with other little helpers.
08:07Hey.
08:07Hey.
08:09Hey.
08:10Hey.
08:11Hey.
08:12Hey.
08:13Hey.
08:15Hey.
