00:00Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line.
00:02I just saw this.
00:03I want to hit everybody with this.
00:05I don't know.
00:05Maybe it'll make some of you mad.
00:07I hope you hear me in a positive light.
00:09925 just wrote, he's had stretches before.
00:12And I know who you're talking about.
00:14And I know what you mean.
00:15And my answer is no, he hasn't.
00:17Like, yes, he's had good stretches of good basketball before.
00:20He has never, ever, ever played like this.
00:24He is averaging eight rebounds a game.
00:28It's damn near double his career average.
00:31No.
00:32No.
00:33And I mean this in the greatest way.
00:36Jonathan has never done this before.
00:38And if you don't believe me, you know who you should listen to?
00:41Jonathan.
00:42He literally said it last night.
00:45He said he spent all offseason.
00:48Forget all those videos in the gym and his agent sitting there for eight hours on Steini and Goo.
00:55He said he spent all offseason thinking.
00:58About ways that he could affect a basketball game other than scoring.
01:03And we're seeing it.
01:04And we're seeing it.
01:05Don't denigrate it by saying we've seen this before.
01:08We have not.
01:09I do not believe we've ever looked at Jonathan Kaminga this way before.
01:12I have not seen this player ever before.
01:14You've seen it.
01:15And I don't know if you've seen it four straight games.
01:18Especially the first four games of a season.
01:20There have been times when he's been this.
01:23But it's the little things.
01:24Not only the rebounding.
01:25But it's the hustle.
01:27And like I was saying to Fitz last week.
01:29Like even when you don't get the rebound.
01:31You're in the mix.
01:31And you're getting your hands on it.
01:33You're batting the ball around.
01:34And you're making the smart play.
01:36And the thing that beyond the rebounding.
01:38Which is the obvious one.
01:39The thing that I'm most impressed by early on.
01:41Is when he decides to score.
01:44He's doing it at the right time.
01:46And he's also going to the basket.
01:48He's not just settling for.
01:49I'm going to shoot my three.
01:51He was 0 for 2 last night from three.
01:53Fine.
01:54He was going to the basket.
01:55He was grown manning people on Memphis.
01:58And getting to the foul line.
01:59That's what we want to see.
02:00Dude.
02:01You know what I'd love to.
02:03If you want to do a deep dive on this.
02:04Okay.
02:05How many times has he had double digit rebounds.
02:07Before in his career.
02:08I'll let you know.
02:09Career.
02:09I'd love to know how many times that's happened.
02:12Dub Nation.
02:12Let's get engaged.

02:30All right.
02:31Which Warriors youngster has surprised you the most.
02:34With their play.
02:35So far this season.
02:36Brandon Pajemski.
02:37Jonathan Kaminga.
02:39Moses Moody.
02:40Or Will Richard.
02:41Vote now.
02:42On 95.7 The Game's Twitter feed.
02:44We will share the results.
02:46Coming up later.
02:48That's kind of a fun question.
02:50Who's surprised you the most with their play this year.
02:52Pods.
02:53J.K.
02:54Moody.
02:55Or Will.
02:56I'd be split between J.K.
02:58And Will.
02:59In that answer.
03:00Moody's only played two games.
03:02Pods.
03:03Has been normally himself.
03:05He had a good shooting night last night.
03:07That's great.
03:08But J.K.
03:09With the way he's playing.
03:11Versus Will.
03:12With the fact that he just stepped into an NBA role.
03:16Yeah.
03:16Like.
03:17Nothing.
03:18Like.
03:18He's just already making smart plays.
03:20Effective plays.
03:21Athletic plays.
03:23It's one of those two.
03:24They've both been phenomenal eyebrow raisers for me.
03:27For me it's probably Kaminga just because of the impact.
03:30The answer is 11 times in the regular season.
03:33He's had 10 or more rebounds.
03:35And won this year.
03:36And you know he's off to a great start.
03:38One and four.
03:39The more I think about Will Richard.
03:41And I've been saying this since Grandy and I were at Summer League.
03:44He played 141 college games.
03:47141.
03:47He played 40 last year for the team that won the Natty.
03:50So I get why he comes in and expects to belong.
03:55Pods is pods.
03:55He always plays.
03:57Mostly solid.
03:58The scoring was remarkable.
03:59Moses can be a streaky shooter.
04:01But for me is Jonathan Kaminga.
04:03And the fact that we all wanted him to do five or six of the little things.
04:07He's doing all those things.
04:09And he's scoring when he needs to score.
04:11You mentioned the free throwing.
04:13Seven of eight last night.
04:14He's at 80% there.
04:16You really can't find any fault in his game through four games.
04:20So as much as I thought that it could work.
04:22And I thought that he'd be motivated and all that.
04:25It is even surpassing my expectations.
04:28No doubt.
04:28I don't know how you could have.
04:29I didn't expect him to get this many minutes.
04:31And we'll see when Melton comes back.
04:33How that kind of shakes through the rest of the group and whatnot.
04:36But those are wonderful problems to have.
04:38Let's go to Kyle in the city.
04:40888-957-9570.
04:42We'll take your calls.
04:43Hi Kyle.
04:44Thanks for checking in.
04:45What are you doing man?
04:47How you doing guys?
04:48What's going on Willard and Dibs?
04:49What's up?
04:52Hey.
04:53So kind of going off your Kaminga point.
04:55Obviously before the season there were a bunch of rumors of do we just let Kaminga go?
04:59Or do we do a little sign and trade?
05:01Just because we didn't really know how he was going to play.
05:04It's created a lot of fun conversations in your group chat I'm sure and as well as mine.
05:08But a conversation came up last night with a buddy of mine.
05:10And if Kaminga continues to play like this, does he become an untouchable trade piece to where he's too valuable?
05:19You know, it kind of meshes in with Joe Lacob's idea of keeping the old players but also growing the new identity of the younger players as the Warriors continue to go on in years to come.
05:28I personally think he becomes untouchable if he continues to play like this.
05:33But I want to hear your guys' thoughts on that.
05:36And then also, curious what the lineup's going to look like once Melton and Seth Curry join the team as well.
05:42I'm curious of who's going to get dropped off the team and what that rotation will look like.
05:45But more importantly, I want to hear your guys' thoughts on if Kaminga becomes untouchable if he continues to play like this.
05:50Kyle, thanks.
05:52My quick answer would be I don't really believe in the word untouchable unless your name is Steph Curry.
05:58Fine.
05:59Because this is how I'll answer the question.
06:02You never know when all of a sudden the Warriors are going to look at their situation.
06:08And, for example, the team they play Thursday night might look at their situation.
06:13And all of a sudden, you're looking at Steph going, should we bring Giannis?
06:17I'm not saying that's likely.
06:19It's highly, highly unlikely.
06:21But that's out there.
06:23And so, no, I would never use the word untouchable, quite frankly, for any player unless his name is Steph.
06:30However, yeah, man, we're on a high, fast train right now to the idea of the Warriors having no interest in trading Jonathan Kaminga.
06:39Well, if you trade Kaminga, you're going to want to get back Kaminga.
06:43And you're going to want to get a guy who's 18-8, right?
06:45Exactly.
06:45So, if you've got a guy who is young, athletic, and mostly durable, last year he had the bad ankle injury, but beyond that, he's a guy who's itching to go out and get you 33-34 minutes.
06:56And you've got that.
06:57And if he meshes with the veterans and four games in, it's been a nice mesh.
07:02If you really want to talk about trading him, then it would be maybe in the offseason, you pick up the team option, and the team would love to get him for $24 million for the next year.
07:12But even at that, if he continues on this trajectory, guess what?
07:16This contract is a bargain.
07:18Well, it's completely a bargain, number one.
07:20And number two, the only question that still would remain after that is, I don't know where J.K. stands on where he wants to be long-term.
07:27I don't know where that has all, you know what I mean?
07:30Right.
07:30It's only been four basketball games.
07:32I don't know if he's just suddenly turned over a new leaf.
07:35Like, don't forget, he was offered this number at three years, you know, two years in an option, and he said, no, I want one year in an option.
07:42Which would suggest, right, he's trying to get himself as much money as possible, but also have the ability to get out of here as quickly as possible.
07:49Now, I don't know if over the last four games that's changed for him.
07:53It's certainly changed for the fan base, because I'm with you.
07:55If you're going to play like this, the Warriors would have no interest in trading Jonathan Kaminga.
07:59Why would you?
08:00Here's the only question anybody needs to answer.
08:03Do you believe that the Warriors is currently constructed or are a title contender?
08:08Yeah.
08:09Okay.
08:09Well, then there's no moves to be made.
08:11None.
08:12As currently constructed, that means you're all going to be mostly healthy come April.
08:17And, yeah, if you've got Jimmy and Steph and Draymond and Al and Kaminga and this mishmash of a fun kind of bench where some defenders, some shooters, some shooter defenders, a couple of big stretch fives and all the rest of it, yeah, I do think that the strength in numbers part of this becomes much more real as the year rolls on.
08:36Right now you've got 10 guys averaging 15 or more minutes.
08:39That strength in numbers team had nine guys.
08:42Average 15 or more minutes.
08:44So you might be even strengthier and more numbers-y with this.
08:49I mean, if you talk about Seth and Melton and they come back and they join in, you're going to have more depth than ever before, potentially.
08:55Look, the bottom line for these guys is being obsessed at ring number five.
09:00And for Jimmy, ring number one.
09:02But that's the obsession.
09:04And if they look at Jonathan Kaminga as the next biggest piece that can help them get there, then in a way, yes, he'd be untouchable.
09:14Not really untouchable, but they would have no interest in moving on from him.
09:18And I think throughout the last handful of years when Steph and Draymond, Clay before, Jimmy now, when these guys are aging, in NBA circles the thought has always been, you're going to need somebody else to step forward and really surprise you with their heady play and their effective play in order to win a ring.
09:40And three years ago, that was Jordan Poole for a good portion of the year, and then it was Andrew Wiggins come playoff time.
09:49If Jonathan Kaminga does this, then he can be that guy.
09:53Then he can be that next piece.
09:56And if that's all working together and you have a player that's been in your system for four years and all of that, then yes, they would have no interest in trading him because that's the guy they would view as can get them over the top.
10:07But we'll see where that goes because it's only been four games.
10:10I can't imagine the start being any better.
10:13I was bummed with his decision-making in the first half of the first game, and not one damn decision to me has stood out since then.
10:21Well, that whole first half, they all were kind of junky.
10:23They were a little bit.
10:24Busty.
10:24First game.
10:25Yeah, both teams were sloppy.
10:27And then, yeah, like you said, the caller was talking about threads with your friends, and we had a thread going hot in that first half.
10:34And it's like, oh boy, here we go.
10:3682 of these.
10:37I might have to turn my phone off.
10:38And then second half, he played great.
10:40And then the next three games, he played great.
10:42And now it's like, what are we going to text each other about?
10:44I sent you that from the bathroom at Splash, and I'd had a couple.
10:48Yeah, no doubt.
10:49I can tell when you've had a couple.
10:50I'm like, don't shoot the ball like that.
10:53Pass the ball.
10:54I was ticked off.
10:56Warriors were only up by one.
10:57I thought that was lame.
10:58I'm like, way better than this team.
11:00And then, halftime ended.
11:02JK came out.
11:03And on about five straight possessions was brilliant.
11:06The Warriors were up by double digits.
11:08Sat back in my chair.
11:09Let's order another appetizer and relax.
11:12That's how it went.
11:13That's exactly how it went.
11:14You know, any text that you send while you're out and about, we file that under, you know, we'll go ahead and review this one.
11:21Because you don't get after it very often.
11:23I'm not saying you were after it.
11:24No, I did not get after it.
11:25I had two drinks.
11:27And that's getting after it for you.
11:28So, much like when we had our toddler and she had Colin, we had an agreement, my wife and I, any fight that happens between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., it doesn't count the next day.
11:39There were some screaming matches because the baby cried for three months straight.
11:43Screaming.
11:44And so, you know, she's screaming and now we're yelling at each other.
11:46It's like, you know, I didn't mean that.
11:48You didn't mean that.
11:49Let's just.
11:49We are exhausted.
11:50Exhausted.
11:51You're completely not yourself.
11:52So, that's kind of like your text messages from Splash.
11:55It's like, okay, okay, Willard, you're not really that down on player A.
11:59You're just a Manhattan into it.
12:01Go ahead and wipe that off the slate.
12:03It was an old-fashioned, but yeah.
12:04My fault.
12:05Same thing.
12:05Old-fashioned.
12:06It's a little orange drink on ice.
12:07It's the same thing.
12:09Fancy little peel in there.
12:10Yeah, there's some bourbon.
12:11Yep.
12:12You know, whatever.
12:13Yeah.
12:13It's fine.
12:14They look great.
12:15They look great.
12:17And you get Al Horford back tonight.
12:19Yeah.
12:19A well-rested Horford who didn't play last night, didn't play in Portland.
12:23So, yeah, strength in numbers every game, every night.
12:27Players, 6 through 11, it's going to be interchangeable.
12:31Yeah, totally.
12:31Totally.
12:32You know, and so the other part of his question, okay, what happens when these other guys come back?
12:36Who starts losing minutes?
12:38I actually think that the Warriors will be creative enough with this so that it might feel like not a lot of people are losing minutes at all.
12:47You know what I mean?
12:47You're going to rest, guys.
12:49So, like, you've already watched it.
12:51You know what I mean?
12:51Like, Quentin Post and TJD are going to play a little bit on one night.
12:55Al Horford will play the other night.
12:57Like, when Melton comes back, he's coming off of a partially torn ACL.
13:01It's not like he's going to come in and get 28 minutes on the first night.
13:04They'll ease him in.
13:06They'll start to see who fits.
13:08The bench and the rotation will shorten as you get to the second half of the season, and you see who's healthy.
13:14But if you're looking right now at that sort of mid-range group of, like, JK, Pods, Moody, get Melton in there.
13:24I guess GP2 is part of that crew.
13:27Yeah.
13:27Like, they're all still going to play.
13:29Guy Santos.
13:29Yeah, but I'm kind of looking at the wings, whatever, guys who are in that.
13:33Like, if Melton comes in there, they'll all still play.
13:37They'll all still play.
13:39GP2 would be my first thought of, like, if Melton comes in and does all the things you do, but he does it at a higher level and he's younger,
13:47I could see his, I could see GP2 getting a DNP here or there.
13:51But I don't think anybody in the first half of this season out of that group is just going to go to the end of the bench and rot.
13:58The Warriors don't want to do that.
14:00They don't want to do that with any of these guys.
14:01And you, based on the matchup, are going to need GP2 some nights and other nights you may not need it.
14:07And I just can't help but get beyond the strength in numbers comparison.
14:10And the thing about that year, Mark, is they were unbelievably healthy.
14:15Steph played 80 games.
14:17Klay 77, Draymond 79, Harrison Barnes played them all, Iguodala played 77, Livingston played 78.
14:25So, your team was healthy.
14:27Totally healthy.
14:27And even though you had, like, Livingston was almost 30, Bogut only missed a small handful.
14:31So, the whole strength in numbers worked because your top players all were healthy most of the year.
14:37And if anybody out there, and I know, like, we know where this whole conversation has been,
14:41for what I like to call the J.K. Brigade, don't worry, you have nothing to worry about.
14:48If he plays like this, he is going to be a starter, he is going to be a finisher, and he is going to be a 30-minute guy.
14:55And I did not think that possible.
14:57But if he plays like this, he is going nowhere.
15:00There won't be one minute taken away.
15:02Nor should there be.
15:04You know what I mean?
15:04Like, to me, this is a massive chicken-of-the-egg question.
15:08You know where my brain goes when I see J.K.'s numbers so far?
15:11My brain goes back to when his agent was on with Stiney and Goo and said that horrible quote.
15:18Huh?
15:18When he's talking about, you know, if you give him the minutes, well, then you're going to get the numbers.
15:25And I'm kind of thinking about it.
15:26It's like, well, this is chicken-of-the-egg.
15:28And I bet wherever you're sitting in this conversation, you sort of wonder what comes first.
15:33And it's like, should the minutes come first and then you get the numbers?
15:37Or do the numbers come and then you get the minutes?
15:39I think that's the way the Warriors look at it.
15:42So, to me, J.K., you know, and I want to play this for everybody, what he said last night,
15:47and talking specifically about rebounding.
15:50Dude, if he averages eight rebounds a game, he's going to get minutes.
15:55Those numbers come, the minutes will come.
15:57They're not going to take that guy off of the floor if he wants to play like that.
16:00But his focus is completely in the right spot, and he has made it in a week and a half
16:08so that everybody has already forgotten the summer, which I think is an unbelievable magic trick
16:13that I certainly did not think possible.
16:15It's incredible.
16:17What summer?
16:18What summer?
16:19Like, I mean, what do you mean?
16:20All roads lead to Kamingo?
16:22We were talking about how good he looked in his workouts.
16:24If this was a hot shooting streak, I'd be like, whatever, people go on hot streaks.
16:29That's not what this is.
16:31This is a complete and total accepting of what's been asked of him,
16:36a change in his mental approach to the game, and a maniacal chase of crashing the boards.
16:44Like, if you were going to do that, then yeah, dude, we're good here.
16:49We don't need to talk about anything.
16:50But I think it's a combination of a number of factors.
16:53One, the reports are that he worked his butt off in the summer.
16:57He put in all the work, not only to be a better offensive player,
17:01but he put work in to be a better overall player.
17:04Piece number two is he got paid.
17:07He didn't get the big bag, but he did get paid.
17:09And I think the other one, maybe the biggest piece of all,
17:12is once that was all done and the summer was over,
17:15he came in, and Jimmy Butler, who's been through some contract stuff of his own,
17:21took him under his wing, and Draymond and Steph go up to him and say,
17:24look, that's that, this is this, we got you.
17:27So he got paid, he got better, and now he has real mentorship from three legends.
17:33I think all those things have led him to be able to just go out there and be his best self.
17:37Nobody in Miami is going to want to hear this.
17:42Jimmy Butler has been the teammate MVP of this team.
17:48He's been pretty awesome.
17:49Jimmy Butler.
17:51We haven't even mentioned Buddy Heald through all these discussions about depth.
17:54I know it.
17:55Well, Buddy's going to play.
17:56Right.
17:56Buddy's going to play.
17:57But Jimmy.
17:58I'm Batman.
17:59And I do think that I saved the day.
18:01I saved the day.
18:02You always play those together.
18:03Jimmy.
18:03When he was Buddy.
18:04I forgot.
18:04No one called him Buttered, so I didn't know if you were going to go to that one.
18:07He's still the best one.
18:08I do think that Jimmy, similarly, he really wanted the contract.
18:13He came here and Joe Lacob showed up at the airport with a pen, and so he got taken care
18:18of.
18:18It's like, what does he have to complain about?
18:20And so he sees Kaminga go through it, and now he can go to JK and say, look, I kind of
18:25was in a similar mode.
18:26I don't know if you read the news much, but I'm good, so you're good.
18:30We're all good.
18:32Listen to Jonathan Kaminga.
18:34I'm nice.
18:36That's new.
18:36I do believe that he is.
18:38I don't want to claim to know Buddy Heald, but he really does seem like a nice guy.
18:42Perhaps.
18:43Unbelievable smile.
18:44Possibly.
18:45Anyway, I want everybody to stop what you're doing right now and listen to this.
18:54This is the most important piece of sound from the Golden State Warriors all year long,
19:03and I mean that in the year of 2025.
19:07Listen to what Jonathan said while we were all screaming at one another and his agent
19:12was tweeting while all that was going on all summer long.
19:16Listen to what Jonathan says he was doing.
19:20It's just one of those aspects of my game that I think I just needed to work on and just
19:25to improve on.
19:26And just going throughout the summer, you know, I sat down, really thought about what can I
19:30have on my game that's not scoring, that's not just playing defense, or how can I impact
19:35winning.
19:36And I think this adding a rebounding mindset, I think, is just a big part of what I just
19:41had to go through the summer and just think about it and just, you know, just trying to
19:45apply as much as I can.
19:46You know, some nights I probably won't grab some, but just having the mindset of just
19:50crashing every time, just going out there, even if I don't get those, you know, my praises
19:55will help somebody else grab those rebounds, or they'll think.
19:58It's just something I've been thinking about, and I think I'm doing pretty well so far, and
20:03there's just the only way to go and just keeping up that same, you know, that same work.
20:08He's like spitting all of the terms that we've all been talking about, you know.
20:12Eureka!
20:13Totally.
20:13Totally.
20:15Ha!
20:16Doing all the things to, you know, make winning plays and extra effort, crashing the boards.
20:22It's like, did they hand him a list, like a list of terms and ideas?
20:26He's like, yeah, this is what I'm going to be doing.
20:29This is what I did all summer.
20:30And if you're a parent, there's no doubt you know exactly what Steve Kerr is doing right
20:35now, which is when you see someone who you are a mentor or a guide to, when you see them
20:42finally succeed, you are so happy, you are so proud.
20:46Let me tell you something, this guy is a ball player.
20:49And then you also spend a moment with yourself and go, huh, what took you so long?
20:55Yeah.
20:56But now, right?
20:57You don't, like, spend too much time with that, but it's like, yeah, that's what we've
21:04been saying to you for four years.
21:07Now, he's a kid.
21:08Yeah.
21:08He's a kid, and he did not have college, and so when you look back on it now, it feels
21:14understandable, but that's the sound bite that the whole organization's been waiting
21:20for.
21:21And part of it, too, from his side is he didn't really get the consistent run to do
21:27it, because he didn't do what he needed to do to get the consistent run, chicken and egg.
21:31So your whole thing is appropriate, and we can re-adjudicate the first four years, but
21:36why bother?
21:37Because right now, where they are, the team and his fit and his effort and their success,
21:42this is the sweet spot.
21:43This is what everyone's been waiting for.
21:45No doubt, bro.
21:46No doubt.
21:47So it's a pretty good start, and the Portland thing on Friday night is really easy to flick.
21:52Whatever.
21:53Brush your shoulder off on that.
21:55You're not going 82-0.
21:56No.
21:57No.
21:57And we can, if you want to play schedule, Sam, I can point out five or six games coming
22:01up that they're not going to win.
22:03Only if you know exactly who's going to play in those games.
22:06Well, you have an idea.
22:07Sort of.
22:08I think they're going to be load managing early on, and so...
22:10And people get hurt.
22:11And that's fine.
22:12People will get hurt.
22:12And if you get to 19-4 or 22-6, well, then it's a little bit easier to start being more
22:19conservative with your minutes and your load management.
22:21No doubt.
22:22No doubt.
22:22I wonder how they'll play tonight.
22:24You know, like, back-to-backs are hard.
22:27Yep.
22:28And the Clippers are, I don't know.
22:30Trades are hard.
22:30They threaten to be good.
22:32Oldest team in basketball.
22:33Yeah.
22:34And Bradley Beal is out.
22:35I don't know if they've gelled yet.
22:37They've looked a little wonky, but they're very talented.
22:39And they've got that Zubats guy who's kind of an Aaron Gordon light.
22:44Like, he's a match-up problem for the Warriors.
22:46So, we'll see.
22:47We'll see.
22:47I'm not going to put this one in the column yet.
22:50But, you know, Clippers tonight and Milwaukee on the road on Thursday.
22:54This is still going to be hard, but it's troubling, right?
22:58It's hard right now not to be pretty damn excited about what we're looking at.
