00:00I think tonight's going to be really – people think that this is like,
00:03dude, this is what you've been waiting for.
00:05I think that this is a challenging night for him
00:08because how does Jonathan remain the new Jonathan?
00:15This is sort of like when somebody gives up alcohol or if they give up drugs
00:22or hell, even if they just give up sugar, something a little bit calmer.
00:26You give something up and then like, ooh, right?
00:31It's put right underneath your nose.
00:33And that's a little bit of how I look at tonight's game for Jonathan.
00:37Jonathan spent the last two years basically in an on-again, off-again argument
00:42with Steve Kerr and the organization about who he is
00:46and how he wants to play basketball.
00:48And he wanted to make big dollars and he wants to be a one,
00:52score the basketball, and thinks he can be that guy.
00:55And maybe someday he can.
00:57While the organization is like, can you please just trust us and play this way
01:02and those good things can happen within that framework of how you play warrior basketball.
01:07And he deserves all the credit in the world because he's come out this year
01:11and he's largely done that, right?
01:13He is playing the way the Warriors want him to play.
01:17Well, now this is the guy who gave up sugar and now it's Halloween.
01:22And everybody's kitchen table is covered with Reese's.
01:27Because now in Sacramento there's no Steph and there's no Jimmy.
01:32The Draymond part doesn't even matter.
01:35And so does Jonathan look at this as an opportunity to continue to play warrior basketball
01:41but do it in a lead role?
01:42Or does he get a whiff of that sugar and go, all right, give me the ball and get the hell out of my way?
01:50Let's see.
01:51I really, really, I know people want Jonathan to bust 30 tonight and I do too.
01:57But I want him to do it within the framework of what they've been doing.
02:00I'm just as excited to see him go get at least seven rebounds tonight as I am to see him put up 30 points.
02:06Yeah, and I think that if you look just at last year and as you were getting us back on track,
02:11I was looking at some of the games last year where Steph didn't play and Kaminga did play.
02:17And these were all before Jimmy was here, so you can't even add the Jimmy factor into it.
02:21And the Warriors in those games were 5-1 without Steph with Kaminga,
02:27including one game I want to highlight they took on Houston.
02:32Oh, I remember that game.
02:33Yeah, Kaminga went out there and he had 30...
02:36He was fantastic.
02:37Yeah, he had 33, I believe.
02:39Is that the game they won by like a couple points?
02:41By 6, 99-93.
02:43Yep.
02:43Kaminga was 33, 7 rebounds.
02:47He was 13-22 from the floor.
02:49And yeah, he was out there and he was the majority of the offense and they won the game.
02:54The only game they lost was against OKC.
02:56Right.
02:56I love that that game is a great example of what I'm talking about
03:00because it ended up being still a little bit of a defensive struggle.
03:03Like, that's all I'm saying.
03:05I really don't want the Warriors to lose themselves tonight
03:08because guys suddenly smell some stats that, by the way, they do need to put up.
03:15But I want it to look like Warrior basketball.
03:18They can do it.
03:20They can do it.
03:21They've been around here for a little while.
03:22These aren't rookies.
03:24Will Richards is a rookie.
03:25Yep.
03:26Jonathan Kaminga is not a rookie.
03:28Moses Moody is not a rookie.
03:29Brandon Pajemski is not a rookie.
03:31Al Horford is going to play in this basketball game.
03:34Even Quentin Post, even the second-year guys, are like, you know,
03:38like they've taken a leap from last year to this year.
03:41And now they just need to do it a little bit more consistently
03:44with more minutes for a full night.
03:46And they need to do it without what I would call kind of their fallback.
03:50That's the challenge.
03:51The challenge is when you get late in the shot clock, it's like,
03:54okay, stiff, Jimmy, go create that ball action and see, you know,
04:00what you can do.
04:01And those moments will fall to Jonathan, and that's fine.
04:05But you hear Steve Curry use this phrase a lot,
04:08and I think it's the thing to watch when the Warriors are playing,
04:10early in the shot clock.
04:12When you start settling or forcing stuff early in the shot clock,
04:17that's when you get into a whole lot of trouble in the NBA.
04:20If Jonathan's got to grab the ball and make something happen late
04:23in the shot clock, fine, I'll pass that one off.
04:26But if there's double digits left on the timer,
04:29and I see him dribble into the lane and do that turnaround fall away
04:33with two people in his face on a mid-range 10-footer,
04:37then I know you're in a bad spot.
04:40He's got other people who can knock down shots,
04:43Buddy Heald and Moses Moody, et cetera.
04:45So that's what I'm looking for tonight.
04:47I want Jonathan to grab this opportunity,
04:49but within the framework of the offense.
04:50Yeah, and I think that he did that a lot more last year before Jimmy came,
04:54and then when he came back from injury,
04:56there were three games that he played without Steph,
04:59and I believe Jimmy played in all three,
05:01and they went one and two,
05:03and I'm looking at the game against Miami where they lost by 26,
05:07and there was no Steph in that game,
05:09and Jonathan Kaminga came off the bench.
05:11He got almost 25 minutes,
05:13and after they got Jimmy and he got back,
05:16he wasn't 100%,
05:16and he wasn't ever really in the flow.
05:19He had 15 points in that game,
05:21but as I remember,
05:22a lot of those came late in the game when it was already decided.
05:25So new year,
05:27new Kaminga,
05:28and I do think that he's playing a lot more like everyone wants him to play,
05:32and I don't think that he's going to fall back into that sugar high
05:36or the way you laid out the analogy,
05:38which I like the analogy.
05:39I don't think that he's going to lapse back into the old JK.
05:44I think he's going to continue to play the way he has.
05:46He might be a little bit more aggressive.
05:48There might be more.
05:49He should be.
05:49And there'll be more opportunities for him to make bad shots or bad plays
05:53because he's going to be much more counted on to do things.
05:56Yeah, sometimes bad shots aren't bad shots.
05:58You know what I mean?
05:58Steph Curry takes them all the time.
06:01If somebody hands him the ball with five seconds left to go on the timer,
06:05dude, you've got to do what you've got to do.
06:06You get the shot that you can get.
06:07But, again, that's what I'm looking at.
06:09I'm looking at the first 15 seconds of the timer to see if the Warriors are doing good things on offense
06:17and not forcing up and not settling and all of that.
06:21Because the funny thing is, and I'd have to really kind of break down the roster here,
06:27but you take away Jimmy, Steph, and Draymond from the Warriors,
06:31but you take away Keegan Murray, DeMontis Sabonis, and who's the other one I'm forgetting who's sitting out tonight for the Kings?
06:42Who's the third one?
06:43Yeah, Zach Levine.
06:45You take all those guys away?
06:47Like, I'm not sure that the Warriors don't still have the better roster tonight.
06:52Who's favored in this game?
06:54Sacramento.
06:55They are?
06:55By three and a half.
06:56By three and a half.
06:57It went up to three and a half, the last I saw it on ESPN.
07:00But just looking back at that Houston game last year, the Warriors started pods and,
07:06hi, this is Andrew Wiggins.
07:08Kaminga, Buddy, and Kavon.
07:11Off the bench, it was Moses, TJD, GP2, Slow Mo, and Pat Spencer.
07:15So, that look for the team at home that beat Houston, very similar to what you're going to have tonight.
07:21Now, you won't have Anderson.
07:22I do think GP2 likely comes back in and he plays.
07:27TJD is going to play.
07:28You had Moses and Buddy last year.
07:30Wiggins won't be there, nor will Looney, but you're going to be relying on pods again.
07:35Kaminga, as mentioned, he had 33 in that game last year,
07:38and ultimately Houston was not great offensively, but you did enough to win it.
07:42I mean, I'm looking at, so obviously, the offense will be centered around DeRozan tonight for the Kings.
07:49Malik Monk is still there.
07:51They never start him.
07:52I wonder if they will tonight, but they never do.
07:55He has not started a game this year.
07:57You mentioned Schroeder.
07:58He's going to be in the starting lineup.
08:00Russell Westbrook is in and out of the starting lineup.
08:02I don't know what they'll do with him.
08:04Keon Ellis is a really good defender on the perimeter, so they've got him.
08:08But outside of that, I mean, it is, let's see,
08:12it is two of their top five scorers are out, so, you know, same as the Warriors.
08:19I know their top two scorers are out, but the Warriors frontcourt players are largely intact
08:25outside of Draymond Green, but the Kings lose Sabonis, so I don't know.
08:31Like, to me, when I look at what the Kings are going to offer tonight,
08:34that's why my head again goes to rebounding, that is a team that can get easily out-rebounded,
08:42I think, by what the Warriors have to offer tonight.
08:45One of the few times in the recent history of the Warriors,
08:48they might actually be the bigger team tonight.
08:51Especially with no Sabonis, who's leading the league with 14 rebounds a game,
08:56so that definitely opens up the opportunity there for, you know, Quentin Post,
09:00and I think TJD gets another decent, healthy run out there.
09:04But Kaminga, when you get all the minutes, his agent told us, and it's been mostly true,
09:09when he gets to play a lot, he rebounds a lot.
09:11Last night, he didn't.
09:12That whole game last night was such a weird game.
09:15It was like a second-gear game for most of them,
09:17so I think JK had five rebounds, but you didn't need him to do much more.
09:22Yeah, no, I think that the Warriors will have every opportunity tonight,
09:25but that's what my eyes are going to be on, is it's just like,
09:28okay, guys, a lot of these guys have looked more grown up this year,
09:31not just Kaminga.
09:33I think Quentin Post looks more grown up this year.
09:36He can play on both sides of the ball now a little bit.
09:39I definitely think Moses Moody looks more refined.
09:42I know it's been a little topsy-turvy for him, some injuries early in the season.
09:45He looks more refined.
09:46Pods looks like Pods, but he's been more good than bad, for sure.
09:51I think these guys are ready to, at least for one night, run the show.
09:55Run the show.
09:56Let's see what it looks like and see if you can grab a couple veterans,
10:00Al Horford, Buddy Heald, GP2, go win a basketball game.
10:03They should have every chance to win this one tonight.
10:05Yeah, you're only three-and-a-half-point dogs,
10:08and it's early season, early days in the association,
10:11and we saw the Warriors go to Indiana against a team
10:15that obviously doesn't have Tyrese Halliburton.
10:17They still have Siakam, and they've got Nembhardt as well, good players.
10:22But the Warriors got beat by a bunch of guys who, much like tonight,
10:26Sacramento fans probably aren't that in tune with Pat Spencer and Guy Santos.
10:30No, of course not.
10:31They're pro basketball players, so go out there and give a pro effort.
10:33888-957-957 if you want to weigh in,
10:36and you can help us sort of kind of start what we're going to be doing
10:39when we start the show and the summit tomorrow at Jack's Restaurant and Bar.
10:44We hope that you'll come join us for sure.
10:47But absolutely, no doubt about it, nine games in,
10:51I think it's an obvious question to be like, okay, now you've seen it,
10:55and you've seen not only how the Warriors look at full strength,
10:57but we'll see how they look when they're not full strength.
11:00And then the ebb and flow of the injuries, the age, and all of it,
11:04and what does it do to your expectations for the season?
11:10I think that that's a very fair thing to dive into,
11:12especially even if you acknowledge that the schedule makers made it tough
11:17for the Warriors out of the gate.
11:18When Steve Kerr says this, which he said yesterday,
11:22I think there's some alarms that go off.
11:24I could tell on the road trip that all three of those guys looked tired.
11:30And I mentioned it, it's a very unusual schedule to start the year.
11:34You know, none of them had missed a game,
11:35and I think they just ran into a little bit of a wall,
11:39and obviously Steph came down with the illness.
11:41So we'll get through it, and we'll be fine.
11:44But it's just a really tough part of the schedule,
11:47and, you know, we'll do the smart thing.
11:50Okay, so here's the smart thing.
11:52Yeah, Steph is sick.
11:53That's different.
11:53Jimmy Butler has a back injury.
11:55I applaud him for trying to play through it yesterday,
11:57but it didn't work, and now he's out tonight.
11:59And then I think Draymond is just sort of them throwing a cherry on top.
12:03It's like if you two are going to sit out, and he's tired too,
12:07why don't we just make it a clean sweep and make it a young guy's game
12:10and go see what they can do?
12:13But I would be lying to you if I didn't say it makes some alarms go off
12:19that eight games into the season, and by the way,
12:23that quote is referring to the road trip.
12:25So that's actually game number six and seven last week, Bucs and Pacers,
12:31if you're already looking at a team and saying our old guys are exhausted.
12:38Six games into the year.
12:40Like, you have to have some alarms go off there, I think.
12:43Definitely, and it's eight games in 15 days, four on the road,
12:48and already early in the year you had back-to-backs.
12:50And you open up before anybody else, the second game actually played
12:55in the entire season at L.A., night off, boom, back-to-back with a travel spot,
13:01Portland runs you out of the gym, couple days off, boom, back-to-back home games,
13:06you win them both, and you exerted a lot against the Clippers in order to get that.
13:11Road trip, Milwaukee, dud, Indiana, you gave it away, and then you come back,
13:17and it's like, yeah, these guys are tired, they're tired already, that's a bad sign.
13:21And you look ahead, road trip, two games, you've got tonight and Friday,
13:26a home game Sunday, and then it's one, two, three, four, five, six, six games,
13:31eight days, I'm sorry, nine days in five cities.
13:35You tell me you're not going to be tired then, too?
13:38You're going to be looking at some load management on that trip, absolutely.
13:40I would imagine so.
13:42I don't know how they wouldn't.
13:43All right, apparently, we do have the starting lineup for tonight's game.
13:49Let's bring in Mark Grandy, who has the names.
13:51I've not seen this, you've not seen this.
13:53You want to take one more shot, a final guess at who the five are?
13:57We can play that game, sure.
13:58Let's play the game.
13:59All right, I think that they're going to go with Pods and Buddy in the backcourt,
14:06and I think they'll go with Quentin, J.K., and Moses Moody.
14:14That's my five.
14:16Willard?
14:19That is my five.
14:22I'm going just for fun so that I can do one thing differently,
14:28because actually I was thinking that that might be the five,
14:31but let's put Buddy on the bench and put Will Richard in the starting lineup.
14:35You love Will Richard.
14:37Give me your five.
14:38Yeah, so my five would be Pods, Will Richard, Moody Kaminga Post.
14:43You are absolutely right, Willard.
14:45Dang!
14:45Will Richard!
14:46Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!
14:48Atta boy, Will.
14:49Yeah.
14:49Okay.
14:50You actually said it earlier.
14:51They want those Buddy buckets coming off of the bench.
14:54I just was second-guessing my earlier thought,
14:56because I looked back at some of those games last year that were Stephless
14:59and no Draymond, and Buddy started in those games.
15:03But, yeah, you bring a couple of the OGs, a couple of the unks off the bench.
15:08My name's Buddy.
15:09Buddy and Al.
15:09And Al, Buddy and Al.
15:10Yeah.
15:11And then a little bit of a...
15:13DeSantos as well.
15:16I'm Batman.
15:17Is GP2 available?
15:19Yeah, he should be.
15:20Okay.
15:20GP2 available.
15:21Yeah, you'll probably get some...
15:22TJD.
15:23TJD.
15:24Probably get some Pat Spencer.
15:25Yep.
15:26Backing up Pods at the front guard position.
15:29Yeah.
15:29So, yeah.
15:32My name is Buddy.
15:33It's a full complement of players other than the big three names.
15:37Fair enough.
15:37Other than that, everybody's ready to go.
15:39Yeah.
15:40So, yeah, if Tui wasn't hurt, maybe you could throw him in there too,
15:44but that's about it, right?
15:45You're going to go with the 10 that you have
15:47and give the old college try
15:50and then head to Denver for the most important game of the year.
15:54Will that group.
15:56Why is it the most important game of the year?
15:57It's the Cup!
15:58Oh, God.
15:59Anyway.
16:00The Cup!
16:00Yeah.
16:01Will this group make enough threes
16:04to help out the fight against autism?
16:07That's the question.
16:09What do we need, 10?
16:10Triples for Autism is brought to you by
16:12Petnelli Financial Partners
16:13and the Autism Society San Francisco Bay Area.
16:16The Warriors last night made 19 three-pointers.
16:21Yes, another donation from Petnelli
16:23to the Autism Society San Francisco.
16:25We are 8 for 8 on the year,
16:27and yes, they have to have at least 10 threes.
16:29Steph Curry and Moses Moody
16:31actually got this donation by themselves.
16:33They had 5 apiece.
16:34That's 10.
16:35Quentin Post had 4.
16:37Buddy Heald 3.
16:38Pat Spencer and Pods had one each.
16:40That is 8 for 8 this season
16:43for Triples for Autism.
16:45If you would like to help out,
16:46we would love it.
16:47To get involved or make a donation to Autism Yourself,
16:50go to sfautismsociety.org.
16:53Triples for Autism is brought to you

16:56and the Autism Society San Francisco Bay Area.
16:59Petnelli is here for you,
17:01offering financial guidance and support
17:02throughout life's milestones.
17:04Go to petnellifp.com.
17:07I'm calling it right now.
17:08We're going to go 82 for 82 on that.
17:11I love it.
17:11I'm really hopeful.
17:12Do you know how many they did last year?
17:15Of the 82 games,
17:16how many times did they get 10 or more threes as a team?
17:19I'm just going to sort of straw poll here
17:22because I was the one who read this
17:23after pretty much every game
17:25except for the weekends.
17:26And I do know,
17:28I can remember at least four or five times
17:31when they didn't get it.
17:33So how many times did they do at least 10 threes last year?
17:37I'll make it around 74.
17:43Close.
17:4377.
17:4477.
17:45Only five times.
17:46Only five times.
17:47Did they fall short?
17:48One of the games is the aforementioned
17:51coming a special 99-93 over Houston.
17:54They only hit nine threes.
17:55And Houston's a very,
17:56very good defensive team as we knew.
17:58And the other four games all were losses.
18:00That was the only game
18:01in which they had fewer than 10 threes
18:03that they won the basketball game.
18:05Make or miss league.
18:06Pretty much.
18:06Especially when you're a jack them up
18:08three point shooting team like the Warriors.
18:10I'm so sure it allowsles.
18:11But,
18:12like me,
18:13there's a lot of numbers in players.
18:13That might OG go in the way.
18:14So,
18:14yeah,
18:28maybe that feels good.
18:29Well,
18:29if it's a mini game of the game,
18:31there's a acceleration,
18:32there's a little bit of an army coming up.
18:34Yeah.
18:34Yeah.
18:35I think you knew it for Houston.
18:36I'm so sure.
18:36Yeah.
