26 October - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Marco Petagna
Transcript
00:00Hello, here's your latest weather update from the Met Office. I'm Marco Pitagno. We've
00:03got a pretty unsettled picture of weather-wise across the UK at the moment. Outbreaks of
00:07rain affecting many areas as we go into the evening. Certainly quite a chilly and overly
00:10breeze also affecting the UK, coming all the way down from the Arctic at the moment. Over
00:14the next few days we lose that cold flow and we start to see weather coming in off the
00:17Atlantic and certainly towards the end of the week and increasingly into next weekend
00:21a very mild southwesterly starting to develop. But notice with low pressure still in charge,
00:24the weather does stay pretty unsettled throughout. Back to this evening and into the overnight
00:29period now. And those outbreaks of rain across the south and south-west will start to fizzle
00:32away. We'll see some clear spells developing here into the early hours. Whereas further
00:36north across central and northern parts of the UK, blustery showers continue to feed in
00:40from the north, merging to give some longer spells of rain at times in places. And it could
00:44be pretty windy in some exposed spots, something to bear in mind if you are heading out about
00:48during the overnight period. Turning quite chilly too across the north, certainly in rural spots
00:52of Scotland. Chrissy temperatures down close to freezing, giving a touch of frost in places.
00:56Whereas down towards the south, with the breeze and the cloud in places here, temperatures
01:00hold up at around about 9 or 10 degrees. So we start the new working week then on a pretty
01:04showery note across the UK. Quite a brisk, northerly breeze. Plenty of showers feeding
01:08down across all areas. But as we go through the day, those showers will start to ease from
01:12the west, becoming more confined towards northern and easternmost parts of the UK as we head into
01:16the afternoon. Elsewhere though, as I say, the winds start to ease down, so feeling a bit
01:20more pleasant than in recent days, given some sunshine at times. By the end of the afternoon,
01:25though, outbreaks of rain start to push back in across Northern Ireland, so turning pretty
01:28wet here for the evening rush hour. Temperatures, well, still quite chilly for the time of year,
01:33especially towards the north and northeast of the UK, no better than 7 or 8 degrees in
01:36places here. Down towards the south and southwest nearer 14 or 15 Celsius, 15 there in Plymouth
01:42is 59 in Fahrenheit, and a bit closer to the seasonal average. Outbreaks of rain out across
01:47those western parts though will start to feed their way east and southeast across all parts
01:51as we go through the overnight period into Tuesday, so turning pretty wet across all parts into
01:55the early hours, with some snow across the high ground in Scotland. And again, it stays
01:59pretty blustery, with temperatures in the north dipping low enough once again for a touch
02:03of frost in a few sheltered spots down into low single figures here, but holding up again
02:07at around about 10 or 11 Celsius down towards the south and southwest of the UK.
02:12Tuesday looks like a pretty unsettled day with low pressure still in charge, further showers,
02:16the longest spells of rain to come across pretty much all of the UK. I think the south of the
02:20UK, certainly central southern England and parts of Wales, seeing the best of the sunshine
02:24between those showers, but on the whole, pretty unsettled. And once again, things fairly chilly,
02:28temperatures no better than 7 to 9 degrees in the north, up to 14 or 15 degrees, that's
02:33the 59 Fahrenheit across some southern and central areas. As for the rest of the week, well,
02:39low pressure continues to dominate the weather, so it will stay pretty unsettled across all
02:42parts. Outbreaks of rain at times, quite brisk winds. But on the positive side,
02:46temperatures will start to rise, certainly later on in the week.
02:50That's pretty much it for me, but of course you can keep tuned to the Met Office forecast
02:53by following us on social media and by subscribing to our YouTube channel. I'll see you soon, take
02:58care for now, bye bye.
