26 October - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Marco Petagna
Transcript
00:00Hello, good afternoon.
00:01I'm Marco Pitagno.
00:02Here's your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04We've got a rather unsettled afternoon to come across the UK.
00:07Outbreaks of rain gradually slip in their way south-eastwards across all parts.
00:10Some bright weather for a time at least towards the far south and south-east, and later as
00:13the rain clears from the north-west, it turns very showy and very blustery here too to end
00:18the afternoon.
00:19Wherever you are, it's a pretty chilly day for the time of year.
00:22Temperatures no better than 6 or 7 degrees across parts of the north-east of the UK,
00:25perhaps up to 12 or 13 locally down towards the south and south-west.
00:29If we add on the effect of a keen west-to-northwesterly wind, it's going to feel even colder out and
00:33about, feeling more like for 2 or 3 degrees across the north-east of Scotland, and more
00:37like 8 or 9 down towards the south and south-west, so you'll certainly need to wrap up warm if
00:41you are heading out and about through the afternoon.
00:44As we head into the evening and through the overnight period, outbreaks of rain will affect
00:47the south of the UK for a time, gradually pushing away though, although the south-west
00:51could hold on to some showy bursts into the early hours of Monday there.
00:55Behind that rain, some clearer spells developing, but a band of showy rain across the north of
00:59Scotland, pushing its way south into Northern Ireland and Northern England into the early
01:02hours.
01:03Again, some of that could be quite heavy, accompanied by some quite blustery winds, so do take care
01:07if you are heading out and about overnight across that central and for a time those northern
01:11parts of the UK.
01:12Later on, behind that rain band in the north, we see some cold air moving in, and one or
01:16two of the showers turning wintry across the higher ground in Scotland.
01:19Cold enough too across the north here for a touch of frost in some rural spots, in some
01:23rural areas temperatures down close to freezing.
01:25Whereas towards the south, with the cloud and breeze last too clear here, we hold on to
01:29temperatures around about 8 to 10 Celsius.
01:31So we start Monday there on a pretty unsettled note, showy bursts of rain moving their way
01:35south across Northern Ireland, Northern England into parts of central England there and parts
01:39of Wales too.
01:40Still a few showers down towards the south-west, and still some showers up towards the north-east
01:44of the UK as well.
01:45But the showers will start to ease from the west, as will the winds as we go through the
01:48day, although at the expense of some more persistent rain returning into Northern Ireland
01:52by the end of the afternoon.
01:54Wherever you are, once again, a fairly chilly day, even though the winds are a bit lighter
01:57than during the weekend.
01:59Highs towards the north and north-east there of 7 or 8 Celsius, up to 14 or 15 degrees,
02:03which is closer to the seasonal average across the far south and south-west of the UK.
02:07As we head into the evening, outbreaks of rain pushing from the west across all parts,
02:11and that sets the scene for a pretty unsettled week to come across the UK.
02:14Outbreaks of rain in all parts at times, quite brisk winds at times too, although on the
02:18positive side, temperatures will start to climb, certainly later on in the week, back to where
02:22they should be for the time of year.
02:24That's pretty much it for me, but of course you can keep tuned to the Met Office forecast
02:27by following us on social media, and by subscribing to our YouTube channel.
02:31I'll see you soon, take care for now, bye bye.
