00:04We're seeing cloud increasing from the north-east across the UK during the course of the day
00:07today, with the best of the brightness out towards the north and west. We've got high
00:10pressure towards the north-west, that's feeding in chilly air from the east and north-east.
00:14Things don't change too much in the next few days, but notice towards the new year,
00:17and certainly until the start of the new year, the high can well start to drift its way southwards
00:21towards the west and south of the UK, allowing an even colder northerly flow to become established.
00:26Fairly tightly packed ice bars, with some wintry hazards possible to start 2026.
00:31Back for the detail for the overnight period though, and I think the most reliable clear
00:34spells tonight are likely across parts of central and northern Scotland. Here we'll see a widespread
00:39frost forming with some fog patches by Sunday morning. Elsewhere, quite a lot of cloud around.
00:43I think the best of the breaks across England and Wales out towards the west here, but generally
00:46speaking, as I say, it will be quite cloudy, that cloud thick enough in one or two spots
00:50to give the odd patch of rain. With that clear weather out towards the north, I say it will
00:54turn quite frosty. I think in some rural spots, you can see temperatures down to minus 5 to
00:58minus 7 Celsius. Down towards the south and across the western areas though, where there's
01:02more cloud around, and still a bit of a breeze blowing as well. Temperatures generally hold
01:06up above freezing, so mostly frost free away from that north and north-west corner there.
01:11Into Sunday itself, then the frost and fog across Scotland will gradually lift as we go through
01:14the day, and there will be plenty of sunshine then here. But elsewhere notice, we do hold
01:18on to quite a bit of cloud. Again, the cloud perhaps thick enough in one or two spots to give the odd bit of drizzle,
01:22but mostly dry, and certainly the best of the breaks for much of the day out across western
01:26spots, west Wales, north-west England too, seeing a few bright breaks at times. And then later in the
01:32day, some clear weather just starting to push into the far south-east of England. Temperatures are
01:36close to where they should be for the time of year, peaking in the range 6 to 8 Celsius in most places,
01:40perhaps 9 towards the south-west, but it will stay quite chilly across parts of Scotland,
01:44especially if any fog does linger into the afternoon. Into the evening and overnight then,
01:49we hold on to some clear weather across Scotland, so frost soon reforming here. Could be some fairly
01:53dense fog patches by Monday morning across the central belt of Scotland. And notice down towards
01:58the south as well, that clear weather coming in from the east will push its way westwards across
02:01other parts of England and Wales. So all in all, a much clearer start to the new working week,
02:06with temperatures more widely dipping below freezing, to give some fairly widespread frost,
02:09I think, by Monday morning. Again, some fog in places too.
02:13As for Monday itself, well, the frost and fog will gradually lift, and there will see some sunshine
02:17breaking through, but it will be a cold start. As I say, temperatures are certainly in rural
02:21spots well below freezing, certainly across the north of the UK.
02:24As for Monday, as I say, though, some brightness developing once the fog and frost lifts,
02:28and then for the rest of next week, we start the week certainly with a mixed bag of weather,
02:32some bright spells in places, some patchy rain too, some night fog and frost. I think frosts,
02:37again, more widely developing than we've seen in recent days. And then later in the week,
02:41the start of 2026, a cold normally flow becoming established, with an increasing chance of
02:46some snow in places, especially across the north. That's pretty much it for me for now,
