00:00This is a Blue Rush Breakdown.
00:03Jackson Dart has been getting all the hype,
00:05but do not sleep on how Russell Wilson's been cooking in the preseason as well.
00:10The Giants quarterback room is the most competitive it's been in years.
00:14Mr. Unlimited has shown that there's no limits in this game going into year 14.
00:19So here's two throws from Russ against the Jets in preseason week two action
00:25that shows that if he's protected, he's going to cook.
00:28All right, let's break down this first play.
00:31You guys see it all throughout social media.
00:33Russell Wilson with the moon ball to Bo Collins for 80 yards.
00:38Let me get out of the way of the play because I want this thing to have its justice.
00:42Let's look at the route concept first
00:44because the Giants have a point of emphasis of pushing the football down the field.
00:50Let's look at the concept.
00:51You've got a max protection.
00:53You've got the post by Collins here,
00:55and you've got the wheel route by Darius Slayton.
00:57Great ball, Russ.
00:59Great ball, Russ.
01:00Go undrafted.
01:01Free agent, you've got to get into the end zone,
01:03but can we back that up so we can break down this route concept a little bit more right here?
01:09All right.
01:10You see Darius Slayton with the motion.
01:12That's going to come over.
01:13Come on over, Slay.
01:15Bo Collins down here at the bottom of the screen.
01:19He's got the post route.
01:21Darius Slayton inside.
01:22He's got a little flat curl control right here.
01:27Bo Collins, look at the angle he takes.
01:30Goes nice and high.
01:31The safety is lost in the sauce.
01:33Doesn't know where the football is.
01:36Doesn't know where the man is.
01:37He's lost.
01:38Russell Wilson does a great job with the trajectory of the football.
01:42Let's go to the tight and really show you guys why he was able to activate the moon ball
01:48because he had all the protection in the world.
01:51Protection, protection, protection.
01:54Your best meal at dinnertime is what?
01:56When it's slow cooked, not when it's in the air fryer or in the microwave.
02:00You give Russell Wilson time to throw the football, he is going to activate the moon ball.
02:05Let me get off again so we can highlight the offensive line play.
02:09We're talking about great offensive line play here on Max Protection.
02:13Here we go.
02:14Let's start this play up.
02:15You see all the big hog mollies down in their stands.
02:19Darius Slayton goes over.
02:21You see the alert.
02:22They're pointing guys out.
02:23The communication is there.
02:24They know they want to push the football down the field.
02:26Pause it.
02:27Pause it.
02:28Look at...
02:30I can go through that hole right there.
02:32Look at...
02:32There's so much space for activities right here.
02:35Look at the protection they give Russell Wilson.
02:39Now, I mentioned earlier about how the safety was lost in the sauce
02:42and Russell Wilson had to pick up Bo Collins' angle.
02:46He's able to do that because of the protection that he gets here.
02:52Let's start it up and start and stop.
02:54Start and stop.
02:55Start the play.
02:55Stop.
02:56Little leakage late, but it's too late.
02:59Your man's his beat.
03:00He already got what he wanted on the play.
03:03Watch the throw.
03:04So, this deserves a Subway commercial.
03:07My goodies.
03:08Level up.
03:09Whatever Sierra song you need, Russ delivered on that one.
03:13But, Bo, you got to score, baby.
03:14Get the knees up, baby.
03:16Get into the zone.
03:17Here's what I like most about this play.
03:20Bo Collins is an undrafted free agent, right?
03:24That ball is going to Malik Neighbors during the season.
03:27Boom ball activated.
03:29Way to put an explosive play on tape in the preseason.
03:34All right, next play.
03:35It's probably my favorite out of the two.
03:38Yeah, I like to push the ball down the field,
03:39but I also like to push the ball on a little bit more intermediate routes as well.
03:44Russell Wilson has talked about activating Jalen Hyatt.
03:47Jalen Hyatt is known for his speed, not his route running,
03:51and he puts a great route on tape here.
03:53But they would not be able to complete this ball
03:57if it wasn't for the offensive line play again.
04:00The Giants offensive line.
04:01I got to get back on screen for this one.
04:03Look at me in my eyes.
04:04The Giants offensive line has come a long way
04:08because back in, what, 2018,
04:11they were running QB sneaks from the negative one-yard line.
04:15Now, fast forward to 2025,
04:17you got an offensive line and a quarterback that can cook.
04:20Now they're running play action and pushing the football down the field.
04:25Let me get off the screen so I can give this route concept its justice.
04:30The concept by Jalen Hyatt and the receiver down low
04:35is a mirrored deep hinge or a stop route.
04:38They're mirrored on both sides.
04:40It means they're both running the same thing.
04:42It's usually about 11 yards,
04:44but since there's play action and run action on the play here,
04:48then you can push that.
04:49You push that to about 14 yards.
04:51Let's watch the play and watch up top, Jalen Hyatt.
04:55Backed up from the one clean run action.
04:58He has clean time.
05:00Jalen Hyatt runs a crisp route,
05:02and the ball is delivered on time.
05:04Let's back it up a little bit more
05:05so I can tell you what Jalen Hyatt does great
05:08that allows Russell Wilson to play just pitch and catch with this football.
05:12Let's break it down.
05:13All right, Hyatt.
05:14All right, Hyatt.
05:16Everyone's saying you can't run routes, right?
05:17They're saying you can't run the tree.
05:19Put it on tape, my man.
05:21You see the speed he puts?
05:22Goes for the blind side.
05:24When we talk about attacking a corner's blind side,
05:27we go for his back, that back side, so he can lose you.
05:31You attack the blind side of that DB with speed
05:34to get him to run out of there.
05:36A fast receiver like a Jalen Hyatt,
05:39you want to give that illusion that I'm running by you.
05:41So with that space that he's created
05:43or that separation he's created,
05:46when he puts his foot in the ground
05:47and comes back to the football,
05:50Russell Wilson gives him the ability
05:52to maximize that separation
05:54because one, it's an outside throw
05:57versus a corner that had inside leverage
05:59or was playing inside,
06:01and he threw it on time
06:02so Jalen Hyatt can do something with it after the catch,
06:06which is what he did.
06:08All right, let's take it to the trenches
06:09because you don't complete this pass
06:12without protection, protection, protection.
06:16Run action, or if they're running run action,
06:18play action, when they're backed up
06:20to the negative one yard line like this,
06:22that means that you respect
06:23and you trust the offensive line.
06:26Let me get out of the way for this one
06:27because I want to highlight Tyrone Tracy Jr.
06:30right here going into his second year.
06:32We all know that what he adds to this offense
06:35in terms of as a running back
06:36and a pass catcher out of the field,
06:38but look at how he picks up this blitz late.
06:43Here we go, let's run that.
06:44You see the Jets shift.
06:46You see the safety coming down.
06:48That's Tyrone Tracy's responsibility.
06:50Comes off of the run action
06:51and sticks his face right into the blitzer.
06:55Russell Wilson doesn't flinch
06:57because he trusts his protection.
06:59Look at these dudes, body on bodies,
07:02hats on hats, blue all on white,
07:04and because of that, like I said,
07:06because of the protection
07:07and because they were able to run a clean operation,
07:11the receiver on the outside being Jalen Hyatt
07:14gets rewarded with a good football
07:16and the Giants offense gets rewarded
07:19with a big play down the field.
07:21A big play in the passing game
07:22is anything over 20 yards.
07:24That was a 21-yard throwing catch.
07:27It doesn't have to be a moon ball every single time
07:31for the Giants offense to create
07:32some sort of explosive play.
07:34But what you've seen from these two plays
07:36is that if Russell Wilson can be protected
07:39and can make throws like this throughout the season,
07:43then honestly, we might not see Jackson Dart
07:45hit the field unless it's clean-up minutes.
07:48Either way, the Giants pushing the football down the field
07:51and creating explosive plays in the passing game,
07:54as I said earlier,
07:56is a point of emphasis for this team this season.
07:59Protect them and let Russ cook.
