Severe thunderstorms are expected to fire up from the Plains to the Gulf Coast from Oct. 23-25.
Transcript
00:00Now, in the south-central U.S. and even the southwest, the storm that's going to move into the southern plains is currently in the state of Arizona.
00:07Yeah, it's a much lower impact, comparatively speaking, but still something people should be prepared for.
00:12And I do want to start off with our storm reports.
00:14We mentioned at the top of the half hour here that we had reports of people struck by lightning in Arizona.
00:20It's this top report here, possible injuries on Mount Humphreys Peak.
00:24Now, right now, it's unknown what extent of injuries because it's going to take some time to get to those people with rescue crews.
00:33Now, we also earlier this afternoon had a report come in.
00:37There we go.
00:38The new report was hiding the old report here.
00:43Now, this lightning strike resulting in a small house fire.
00:45So a couple of impacts from lightning here, a good reminder that lightning safety is an important thing to keep in mind.
00:51Even if you're talking about storms that don't have a widespread severe threat, lightning can still pose a big danger.
00:56Let's talk about the severe threat, though, as this storm moves to the east.
01:00So it starts Thursday night.
01:02It's a low-end threat level, one out of four here on the AccuWeather scale.
01:06And it's mainly flooding downpours that we're concerned about.
01:08I'm going to go ahead and show you future radar, and you will very quickly, I think, understand why flooding downpours are the biggest concern overall.
01:15So it starts off relatively slowly tomorrow, late morning, early afternoon, into the panhandle of Texas, and even into the panhandle of Oklahoma as well.
01:24Then we see things start to strengthen, more widespread downpours into Oklahoma City right around 730.
01:29It gets worse, though.
01:30There we go.
01:31There's round one of our widespread heavy rainfall overnight, very early Friday morning.
01:37I'm going to hit play again, and you'll see round two start to develop as we continue through the day on Friday.
01:44Okay, there's round two.
01:46Further south, further east, but a much more widespread area with the yellows, the oranges, the reds, indicating that heavy, heavy rainfall.
01:54We're talking one to even up to eight inches of rain in the areas, seeing the worst of it.
01:59We get closer to the gulf, though, day by day.
02:01Here's a look at Friday and a quick look at Saturday.
02:03The threat level remains the same.
02:05The risks remain the same.
02:07It starts with our location that changes day by day.
