Severe thunderstorms are expected to erupt across Texas and Oklahoma multiple days this week.
Transcript
00:00Well, the fire danger, it remains elevated, especially from the Rockies into the Southern Plains, something we've been highlighting in
00:06some other parts of the show.
00:08We look ahead to tomorrow. We still have the dry conditions for now. Things are going to start to change
00:13as we head later into the week.
00:14Take a look at the temperatures, though. We sure do have the heat. Oklahoma City, Dallas, both with a forecast
00:20high of 85, when usually it'd be in the upper 60s, low 70s this time of year, depending on which
00:25city you're talking about.
00:26And that stretches even over into Atlanta, where we're in the 80s and we should be in the upper 60s.
00:31Here's Wednesday, though. This is the change that I was talking about.
00:34While the heat right now is fueling that fire danger, by the time we get to Wednesday, the heat is
00:39going to be one of the ingredients that creates our severe weather threat.
00:43And we do have a level two out of four moderate risk area here. So expect more numerous storms compared
00:49to when it's just some risk and we have very isolated severe storms.
00:53All types of severe weather possible here, though. Broke it down for you to give you an idea of exactly
00:58what to expect.
00:59Wind and hail are going to be the biggest threats. We do expect to see a couple of tornadoes.
01:04So don't think that just because we're saying it's a low threat of tornadoes that you're in the clear. There
01:08will be a few. You should be prepared for it.
01:10It's just the wind and the hail that are going to be much more widespread.
01:14Let's take a look at how it plays out on future radar.
01:16Give you an idea here because we have a few scattered showers, thunderstorms throughout Tuesday.
01:22But really, it's not until overnight and into Wednesday we start to see more of that action, especially by Wednesday
01:28evening.
01:29I mean, that's when we see more of the squall lines and some of those isolated storms that are going
01:33to cause some problems.
01:34You're seeing the yellows, oranges, the reds. There will be some heavy downpours.
01:37Can't rule out some ponding and flash flooding, though, again, it's not the primary threat.
01:42We continue into Thursday. Things start to stretch into the southeast.
01:46One thing you're not going to see on future radar yet, though, because we're still a little too far out,
01:49is what happens Friday.
01:51We see a return of the severe weather. Very similar area that the storms spark once again and all types
01:58of severe weather possible here.
02:00Now, right now, this is a low-end threat level one out of four.
02:02However, when we're looking at the week as a whole, we're looking at a week where we have severe weather
02:07in the forecast somewhere every single day,
02:09we have our eye on Friday here at AccuWeather.
02:12So make sure you are checking back for the latest forecast information.
02:15We do expect Friday to be a pretty impactful day.
