Transcript
00:00Well, the Baffa Sports Midnight Series moved to Tobago over the weekend.
00:05Their Midnight 10K attracted close to 350 participants.
00:09Tafari Waldron, Christopher Mitchell and hometown runner Elvis Turner took the top three spots for the men,
00:16while Alexia John, April Francis and Unika Brereton sealed the top spots for the women.
00:22Public Relations Officer for the competition, Vern Ekstavo, congratulated the winners
00:27and indicated that racing at midnight could be deceptive, and some runners found that out the hard way.
00:34What I did notice is that some other runners said that, you know, they were surprised that they ran,
00:38they thought they were running faster than they actually did, you know.
00:42Their times were a little bit slower than they thought, and I think that's good,
00:46in that people looking at this race might think that it's pretty easy to run a midnight race because it's cooler,
00:52but it's also a little bit of a challenge in terms of, you know, navigating your terrain.
00:57You have some extra implements. Some people might have on headlamps.
01:00Some people have reflective arm bands, vests, different things, you know.
01:04So it was a pretty good time and a good experience for runners who are looking for a challenge.
01:10Reflecting on the series so far, he indicated that they all offer something different
01:14as it fits into the running calendar.
01:17Also, he says it marked the first edition of the Midnight Marathon
01:20since the race's official listing on the Abbott World Marathon Major's Global Marathon calendar.
01:25I think each particular 10K and each particular midnight race that we've done has its own little elements.
01:32You know, Trinidad has that energy and that pump, you know, that we're accustomed to.
01:37Tobago has that serenity and that pristine.
01:40So I think both races are a balance.
01:42And if you're an avid runner and you're interested in things like this, do both.
01:47Moving forward, he believes the better lighting for the course will aid runners.
01:51I think definitely we could do with some more support in general.
01:56We do need a little more lighting along the route.
01:59And because it's 10K, lighting at 10 kilometers space, you know,
02:03it does take a lot of effort, infrastructure, and probably some more support from corporate Trinidad.
02:09He added that midnight time is expected to remain the same as they look forward to future races.
02:14Sergio Dufo, TV6 Sport.
02:16I'll see you next time.
