Transcript
00:00That big check says $300,000. That's a lot of money, right?
00:04Yeah.
00:05Come Sunday, September 15th at 6 a.m.,
00:08running and fitness enthusiasts will take on the Venture Credit Union 5K and Fun Walk.
00:15Lots of prizes will be up for grabs with the participants competing for the Desmond Baxter Challenge trophy.
00:22This year, the event will take place on the 15th of September, Sunday.
00:27And as usual, we will engage the heart of our Cuva community in this exhilarating event.
00:35For over 27 years, Venture has been committed to enhancing the economic, social,
00:40and physical well-being of its members and the communities it serves.
00:44Our 5K Run and Fun Walk is more than just an event on the local road running calendar.
00:52With more sponsors on board, this year organizers say they are expecting as much as 2,000 participants.
00:58As a result, they are banking on a police presence and contemplating more water stations.
01:04Because of the amount of runners that we're expecting, the team is still reviewing the amount of water stops.
01:11So when we finalize on the figures, then we will be able to establish where and how many water stops.
01:19But yes, we expect more participants and we also expect to increase from the lessons learned to improve.
01:27They are also hoping to expand the event for the next edition.
01:31Well, yes, and prior to coming here this morning, I discussed with Shona and she's my right-hand person on this committee.
01:43We are actually thinking maybe, and this is not to say yes we're doing it, but maybe we're looking at a 10K,
01:51seeing that we'll be having a big celebration next year, God willing.
01:55Both defending champions Nicholas Romany and Samantha Shukla will be returning.
02:00And with the event being known as one of the most competitive races, they both shied away from stating their target times.
02:08Sometimes you're training and you haven't gotten enough training in, in your mind, and then God blows you away.
02:14Sometimes you're training and you're doing things right, and you're like, okay, today I'm going to hit this time, I'm going to hit 17 or 18 low.
02:22And then, you know, something happens and you don't get it.
02:25And with that particular course, yes, parts of it is fast, but there's a lot of winding and turns and stuff, and that slows you down.
02:32You have to slow, even like a car when you're driving, you have to slow down to turn the corners.
02:36So we're not at liberty to say, but to be there and to be healthy, we give God all the glory.
02:42And he will, he will surprise all of us on that day.
02:45So I recently started back training.
02:48So right now is to see what kind of condition and shape I could get back in.
02:54So I really don't know what would be the time because last year, last year I was looking forward to breaking 15 minutes on the course.
03:05But I ran like 15-0, so I can't really say what time I would want to run.
03:11I would like to run sub-15, but it's whatever my body could give me.
