It's a milestone to cherish as Aranjuez Sports Club recently celebrated 100 years.

To mark the occasion, a function was held on Sunday at the ground, with TTCB president Azim Bassarath also attending.
Transcript
00:00 Dedication, hard work, love and of course astute leadership would have helped in making
00:05 the Aranguay Sports Club reach the milestone of 100 years.
00:09 These gentlemen, who also attended the celebration, were having a conversation, probably remembering
00:14 the good old days at the club.
00:17 Also gracing the venue with his presence was Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board President
00:20 Azim Basrat, who lauded the club for completing a century.
00:24 The resilience of the people of Aranguay shows a great deal of commitment to the people
00:30 and of course what they wanted to do and what they wanted to see that the community achieve.
00:35 This is a huge achievement in any organisation, whether it is cricket, football, any sort
00:41 of discipline, that this achievement, reaching 100 years, is indeed commendable.
00:47 Those who made an impact at the club had to be rewarded for their efforts.
00:51 In the case of some, they were recognised posthumously.
00:54 One man who could not be left out was former President Shiraz Mohamed, who is now the club's
00:58 PRO.
00:59 I remember when I joined the club, we didn't really have a clubhouse.
01:03 And then within a short space of time we were able to get a clubhouse.
01:06 Then from that we were able to move from zonal cricket to national league cricket.
01:11 We qualified for, in those days, it was Super League in 1999.
01:16 And we never look back up to this day, we are still playing at the highest level.
01:21 The second highest level, we would have played in National 1, we would have played in National
01:25 2, we are playing in Prem 2, North now.
01:27 Food and drink were included in the entertainment, with these gentlemen all set to enjoy their
01:32 meal.
01:33 And of course, a big shout out to the hardworking women who were making sure that the guests
01:37 were being served.
01:39 While the event was loaded with seniors, the youngsters too could not be forgotten, including
01:43 cricketer Amirali.
01:44 They are the club I grew up in.
01:47 I no longer remember now, but this club will always be in my heart.
01:50 It is true in here, right through.
01:52 I learned everything I know about the game, everything I know about my life I learned
01:55 from this club.
01:56 I remember 12 years in L.A.
02:01 It's just, it's like my second home.
02:04 And last but not least, tributes from current club president Anand Ali, for whom this was
02:09 a momentous occasion.
02:11 That many clubs in Trinidad reached that milestone as yet.
02:14 Hopefully in the future we can get more clubs reaching that 100 years milestone.
02:20 And we feel accomplished.
02:21 We accomplished a lot of stuff.
02:24 We produced a couple of Trinidad players.
02:27 Not as much as we would like to produce, but we will achieve some more national players
02:32 in the upcoming years.
02:34 And how do you relish this responsibility of being president?
02:38 Oh, it's really a tough task.
02:40 It's really a tough task to be a president of an organization, a leader of an organization.
02:46 It's been responsibilities.
02:49 And we live in a country right now where crime is rampant.
02:53 And we have to do our part to keep the kids off the streets.
02:58 And we will do our part, and we will try to assist the country in anything that we can
03:04 do.
03:05 Then it was time to send birthday wishes to the club.
03:07 Happy 100th anniversary Arangues Sports Club.
03:14 An interesting point to note.
03:15 The club spells Arangues with a J and not a G.
03:19 That being the original Spanish spelling.
03:21 Vinod Nawani, TV6 Port.
