00:00On Sunday, another long-run challenge awaits the big guns in the Uesbek half-marathon.
00:06Nicholas Romany is the defending champion for this one.
00:09Alex Ikisa came second.
00:11The rivalry between these two men is well-known.
00:13The Kenyan supposedly gets stronger as the race goes on.
00:17In 2023, for that event, Ikisa was supposedly not at his best, and Romany ran away with
00:23it.
00:24And judging by his latest form after surging ahead to victory in the RBC 15K, Ikisa will
00:29want to prove a point by winning the half-marathon as well.
00:33However, victory is not certain for either athlete, as the event has been known to attract
00:37a wide array of international competitors since its inception in 2004.
00:43Martinique's Cecilia Mobuchon took the women's category over local runner Samantha Shukla
00:48last time around.
00:50She is expected to take the starting line again this year.
00:53The half-marathon starts from 5am at Uesbek, and the runners will follow the course, turning
00:58at the La Resource Junction in Dabedi, before retracting the same path, ending back at Uesbek.
01:05The 5K, which begins at 5.15am, will follow the course, turning at Mokoya Junction, before
01:11retracting the same path, ending back at Uesbek as well.
01:15UE's race theme for this year is Pace Yourself to Victory to raise dyslexia awareness.
01:21The body stated that funds raised will aid with teacher training, instructed literacy
01:26education, and facilitate outreach initiatives.
01:30The race is also a collaboration with the National Association of Athletics Administrations
01:34of Trinidad and Tobago and the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee.
01:39Evolution timing will be taking care of the race management.
