00:30European diplomacy is on a knife edge regarding the announced summit between the American and Russian presidents scheduled to take place in Budapest.
00:41Upon their arrival in Luxembourg on Monday, the European Union's foreign ministers expressed their hope that the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin would bring an end to the war in Ukraine.
00:52However, the location of this meeting poses a problem.
00:55The controversy stems from the fact that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban disagrees with the majority of the EU on the war in Ukraine.
01:14In addition, the Russian president is under an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court.
01:19No, it's not nice. I mean, to see that really a person put to the arrest warrant by the ICC is coming to a European country.
01:35And again, you know, the question is whether there is any outcome out of this.
01:40To enable this meeting to take place, EU member states will have to open their airspace, which has been closed to Russian aircraft since 2022.
01:50However, diplomatic exemptions are possible.
01:53The city of Slovyansk in Ukraine's Donetsk region came under attack from Russian drones again on the night of October the 20th.
02:04The strike follows a similar attack on Sunday when five drones hit the city, damaging houses and a school.
02:11According to local authorities, the latest attack used Garan-2 kamikaze drones, which damaged more houses and cars in the private sector.
02:19There were no casualties or injuries in the Monday night attack.
02:25Residents are already receiving building materials to help them repair their homes.
02:32A major road connecting the three Baltic states to Poland open on Monday at a time of arising tensions between Europe and Russia.
02:45The road, known as Via Baltica, will pass through a narrow strip of land between Belarus and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad called the Suwalki Gap,
02:55which has often been described as a potential target if Russia were to attack NATO.
03:33NATO troops could potentially move faster in aid of the Baltics by using Via Baltica.
03:39Also under construction is a companion railway project known as Rail Baltica,
03:43the first sections of which are due to be operational by 2030.
03:47The threat of European sanctions against Israel remains on the table.
03:56Ten days after the ceasefire in Gaza came into effect,
04:00the 27 European foreign ministers who gathered in Luxembourg
04:04considered the situation too fragile to ease pressure on the Israeli authorities, Kaya Kala said.
04:10The ceasefire has changed the context, that is very clear for everybody.
04:15However, unless we see real and sustained change on the ground,
04:20including more aid reaching Gaza, the threat of sanctions remains on the table.
04:26Other prerequisites include access to the strip for journalists and humanitarian aid workers
04:31and NGOs registration to be unrestricted, Kala said.
04:35The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen,
04:39proposed three measures last month.
04:42The partial suspension of the association agreement between the EU and Israel,
04:46the freezing of bilateral aid,
04:48as well as individual sanctions against two Israeli far-right ministers
04:52and violent settlers in the West Bank.
04:55Hamas and Israel both accused each other of violating the ceasefire.

05:05police are still searching for the four-person commando

05:14On Sunday morning, using a truck with a lift,
05:18thieves broke into the Galerie d'Apollon and smashed two display cases
05:23and escaped with eight priceless jewels linked to Napoleon.

05:33Investigators have since recovered tools, gloves and two of these stolen pieces,

06:47to shore up the tenuous ceasefire in Gaza,

06:54the first major test of the fragile deal.
06:57The IDF said it acted in defense
07:00and was responding to an attack leveled against its forces stationed there.
07:04Meanwhile, Hamas also said Israel had violated the ceasefire
07:08close to 50 times since it came into force.
07:12Israel also threatened to halt aid,
07:14but later said it resumed enforcing the ceasefire,
07:17adding that aid deliveries would resume on Monday.
07:21U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters
07:23that Hamas had done some shooting,
07:25but also suggested the violence may be the fault of rebels
07:28in the organization rather than its leadership.
07:31Many Palestinians in Gaza remain fearful the war could return,
07:36as dozens were killed in Sunday strikes, including children.
07:40There is also concern about how much aid Israel is letting
07:44into the famine-stricken territory.
07:47The next stage is expected to focus on disarming Hamas,
07:51Israeli withdrawal from additional areas it controls,
07:54and future governance of the Strip.
