00:30The EU and its allies must come up with practical solutions to provide Ukraine with security guarantees,
00:36according to European Council President Antonio Costa.
00:40Costa spoke in a virtual briefing with the Coalition of the Willing Leaders,
00:43including Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen, following a Washington summit.
00:48Now is the time to accelerate our practical work to put in place a guarantee
00:56similar to NATO's Article 5, with continued United States engagement.
01:04The Coalition of Willing should remain closely involved in this process.
01:11The Ukrainian armored forces will be the first line of defense.
01:16European leaders have been cautiously optimistic about U.S.-led efforts to bring forward a peace deal,
01:31but have reiterated concerns over Europe's ability to trust Russian President Vladimir Putin.
01:36Both Denmark and Finland's leaders said Tuesday that the Russian leader must show he's serious about a peace agreement.
01:43A breakthrough for Ukraine's European allies is Trump's commitment to participate in providing security guarantees for Ukraine.
01:49Trump on Tuesday, however, ruled out U.S. boots on the ground in Ukraine
01:54and gave no specifics about U.S. support in a post-war settlement.
01:58The U.K. has said a reassurance force headed by the U.K. and France would involve allies sending troops to non-contact areas.
02:06Ukraine's membership to the EU is also on the table as a safety carry,
02:10although it is currently stalled by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
02:15Despite an uptick in diplomacy around ending the war,
02:18Russia struck Ukraine overnight with a wave of missile and drone attacks from Monday into Tuesday.
02:24When Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office in February,
02:39his wartime attire became a flashpoint in a disastrous session.
02:43But for Monday's meeting between the two leaders, Zelenskyy was dressed to impress.
02:49During the meeting, a reporter who in February had taken Zelenskyy to task for not wearing a suit instead gave him a compliment.
02:56I didn't do any suit as far as...
02:58First of all, Mr. President Zelenskyy, you look fabulous in that suit.
03:02I said the same thing.
03:03Yeah, you look good.
03:04I said the same thing.
03:05Yeah, you look good on you.
03:06I said the one that attacked you last time.
03:08See, now he's in...
03:08I remember that.
03:09Yeah, I apologize to you.
03:11You look wonderful.
03:12No, my first question for you, President Zelenskyy...
03:14You look in the same suit.
03:18You see, I changed you.
03:19I'm not...
03:20Since 2022, Zelenskyy has mainly worn the same military-style outfit as an act of solidarity with Ukrainian troops fighting Russia's invasion.
03:28A ship loaded with 1,200 tons of food supplies for Gaza docked in Israel in a renewed effort to alleviate the worsening crisis as famine threatens the Palestinian territory.
03:43The ship departed Cyprus loaded with food aid such as pasta, rice, baby food and canned goods.
03:51Once offloaded in Israel, UN aid employees organized for the aid to be distributed at food stations in Gaza by the world's central kitchen.
04:02Ship-borne deliveries can bring in much larger quantities of aid than the airdrops several countries have been making into the strip.
04:09Meanwhile, at least 26 people were killed in Gaza on Tuesday, according to local hospitals.
04:19This reportedly includes at least eight people killed in Israeli attacks on tents housing displaced people in Kan Yunus,
04:27and four more in an attack on a tent in Deir al-Bala.
04:30The deaths come the day after Hamas said it had accepted the latest ceasefire proposal in Gaza, but Israeli officials have not yet responded.
04:41A record 383 aid workers have been killed across the world in 2024, according to the UN, with nearly half of them killed in Gaza.
04:50The figures this year show no sign of a reversal of the upward trend, according to the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
05:01265 workers have been killed so far in 2025, the UN reported.
05:07One of the deadliest attacks of 2025 took place in March in the southern Ghazan city of Rafa,
05:13when Israeli troops killed 15 medics and emergency responders.
05:17Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will declare the areas affected by the deadly wildfires as disaster zones.
05:29The fires, currently ranging for a tenth consecutive day, have burned through an area of more than 3,800 square kilometers,
05:37according to the EU's European Forest Fire Information System.
05:40Thousands of Spanish firefighters aided by soldiers and water-bombing aircraft were still at work battling the flames,
05:47particularly severe in the northwestern Galicia province.
05:51The Interior Ministry says firefighting units from Germany arrived in Spain on Tuesday
05:56as part of a European Coordination Agreement and will be helping to fight the blazes.
06:01Madrid says at least four people were killed in this year's wildfire season.
06:05Police have detained more than 20 people for suspected arson and are investigating almost 90 others for allegedly sparking or contributing to the disaster.
06:15The country is still battling a dozen active fires, which continue to rage despite the end of Europe's record-setting heat wave,
06:22bringing in cooler temperatures.
06:24In neighboring Portugal, more than 3,700 firefighters were at work on Tuesday to brave the flames.
06:30At least two people were killed by the fires, which have also torched over 2,300 square kilometers.
06:37The figure is a five-fold increase over an almost two-decade average, ranging from 2006 to 2024.
06:47No, Dutch police have not arrested Israelis for war crimes.
06:52Photos shared on social media alleged that Israeli military personnel have been arrested
06:59by Dutch police in the Netherlands on charges related to war crimes.
07:04One image shows a police officer holding a woman by the arm.
07:07Captions shared alongside the photo states Dutch police hold in Israeli officer Yukal Yulita
07:13while she vacationed in Europe.
07:14User states she was accused of war crimes in Rafa.
07:17Another photo claims to show Dutch police arresting Israeli Major General Shitan Shao,
07:23commander of the Armored Corps, reportedly on the same charges.
07:27However, in both cases, the pictures show the arrests of other people and in other countries.
07:32The image of the woman being arrested, in fact, dates back to August 2016.
07:36A reverse image search found the image was shared by British tabloid The Daily Mail
07:41in an article on partygoers being arrested by police in Newcastle.
07:45Meanwhile, a reverse image search of the second picture shows it dates to September 2022
07:51and illustrates the arrest of an Irish gangster known as Johnny Cash during a raid in Spain.
07:56The Dutch Public Prosecution Service confirmed here or verified that no Israeli nationals
08:00had been arrested by Dutch police for war crimes.
08:03In February this year, however, two Israeli soldiers who were on holiday in the Netherlands
08:07returned to Israel for fear of persecution.
08:10The Hind Rajab Foundation wanted to bring a lawsuit in the Netherlands against one of the men,
08:15who allegedly committed war crimes in Gaza.
08:17The foundation also lodged a complaint over the presence of two Israeli soldiers
08:21suspected of committing war crimes in Gaza at Tomorrowland.
08:24The two were detained and questioned by police,
08:27after which Belgium's Federal Public Prosecutor's Office decided to refer the files
08:31to the International Criminal Court.
08:33The same photo of the young woman, who was falsely identified as Yuka Lulita,
08:37was incorrectly used in a social media post about the arrest of these two soldiers in Belgium,
08:43which garnered 650,000 views.
08:46Norwegian prosecutors have indicted the eldest son of Crown Princess Meta Merit on multiple charges
08:55following a lengthy investigation.
08:5828-year-old Marius Borg Hojby was charged with close to three dozen counts,
09:02including multiple counts of rape and abuse.
09:05He was also charged with other offenses, including violence against a former partner,
09:09making death threats, and traffic violations.
09:12Hojby faces up to 10 years behind bars if convicted on all counts.
09:17His defense attorney in a statement said that his client denies all charges of sexual abuse
09:21and the majority of violence charges and plans to fight it in court.
09:26Prosecutors say they expect the trial to begin in mid-January next year
09:30and estimate it to last around six weeks.
09:32Italy's Ventina Glacier has now melted so much due to climate change
09:40to the point where geologists can only continue measuring it remotely.
09:45The Lombardi Glaciological Service says it will now use drone imagery
09:48to measure the annual retreat of the glacier and keep track of its ongoing shrinkage.
09:54Geologists, who've been measuring the glacier on-site for the past 130 years,
09:58say it's far too dangerous for future in-person visits.
10:02The simple stakes planted on the glacier as a benchmark to measure its retreat
10:06are now buried under piles of rock slides and debris, rendering the terrain unsteady.
10:12The glacier has been in steady retreat since geologists first began measuring it in 1895.
10:18Experts say melting has accelerated on the Italian iceberg in recent years,
10:23having lost about 430 meters in the last decade alone, with nearly half of that since 2021.
10:29Italy's glaciers, primarily found in the country's north along the Alps and Dolomites,
10:35have been steadily receding due to inadequate snowfall in the winter and record-setting hot summers.
10:41The Lombardi Service says the Alps represent a climate hotspot,
10:44recording double the global average of temperature increases since pre-industrial times,
10:49resulting in a loss of 64% of alpine glacier volume.
10:53After eight years of planning, a church in Sweden began a slow-motion five-kilometer journey
11:01to make way for the expansion of Europe's largest underground mine.
11:06The Karuna Church, a Lutheran church, will roll to its new home over two days
11:11at the pace of just half a kilometer per hour.
11:14It's being moved as a nearby mine is expanding deeper underground,
11:19causing residents to see cracks in the buildings and roads.
11:24Officials have moved numerous buildings to a new downtown at a safe distance from the mine.
11:31Thousands of visitors descended on Karuna to watch the spectacle,
11:35which included an early morning blessing
11:37and a performance from Sweden's 2025 Eurovision entry.
