00:00From responding to natural disasters, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told MEPs in Strasbourg that Russia is waging a deliberate and targeted grey zone campaign against Europe.
00:12In the past two weeks, fighter jets have violated Estonia's airspace, drones have flown over critical sites in multiple European countries, and airports have been paralysed by cyberattacks.
00:23These incidents are calculated to linger in the twilight of deniability.
00:31This is not random harassment.
00:35It is a coherent and escalating campaign to unsettle our citizens, test our resolve, divide our union, and weaken our support for Ukraine.
00:46And it is time to call it by its name.
00:49This is hybrid warfare.
00:51The President of the European Commission called for a rethink of EU's defence policy and listed the new initiatives that her executive has put forward, such as a drone wall.
01:02This anti-drone system will be a shield for our entire union, including, of course, the southern flank.
01:10And it should be designed to address a wide spectrum of challenges, from responding to natural disasters, to tackling international organized crime, from monitoring weaponized migration, to controlling the Russian shadow fleet, and the list is long.
01:30Von der Leyen also stressed the need to ensure that the surge in defence spending benefits Europe's domestic industry.
01:37Greenland's Prime Minister Jens Friedrich Nielsen has emphasised Greenland's ambition to cooperate more closely with the European Union,
01:49but announced that the territory is not seeking to join the EU or be part of the US.
01:55Addressing the European Parliament in Strasbourg for the first time, Nielsen touched on various areas of partnership, with a particular emphasis on raw materials.
02:04President of the European Parliament, Roberta Mezzola, echoed Nielsen's words, noting that Greenland will always find a strong partner in the European Union.
02:13We need cooperation and partnerships with like-minded countries and institutions who share our values.
02:22The EU has been a stable, reliable and important partner for Greenland for more than 40 years.
02:27Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, with a self-government arrangement in place since 2009.
02:37The United Nations is in a position to bring immediate aid to Gaza, the Executive Director of UNOPS, the UN Office for Project Services, told Euronews.
02:54He assured that the international institution has all the logistical and humanitarian means at its disposal to help Palestinians in Gaza.
03:02The key element is we have 170,000 tons of food, medicaments and aid ready to enter into Gaza.
03:12We can, in the first 30 days of a ceasefire, we can bring 100 trucks of food daily.
03:21We can bring, as we did in the last ceasefire, 1 million liters of fuel.
03:28We can put six hospitals functioning.
03:32Da Silva stressed that what is lacking at the moment are the political conditions to be able to intervene.
03:38The Portuguese official also rejected the accusations made by Israel against UNRWA,
03:43the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees, which the Hebrew state suspects is infiltrated by Hamas.
03:51Instead, Da Silva pointed out the essential role the organization plays.
03:55Without UNRWA, it's impossible to operate, because UNRWA is the agency that, for instance,
04:02provides direct support on health and education to the children and to the citizens in Gaza.
04:10With peace talks ongoing, the UNRWA's executive director is already thinking ahead.
04:15He says the agency is getting ready for the next big step,
04:19which is clearing out the 50 million tons of debris and waste scattered across the Palestinian territory.
04:24Senior Hamas official and leader of the negotiating team to Egypt Khalil al-Hayya says that the group needs,
04:34quote,
04:35real guarantees of a lasting ceasefire as part of any deal to return the remaining 48 hostages still under captivity in Gaza.
04:43Indirect peace talks between Israel and Hamas in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh have entered their third day,
04:50as momentum picks up on U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed peace plan.
04:55Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Ati says the talks are progressing.
04:59In the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, in the city of Sharm el-Salam,
05:03there are parties between the Israeli and Palestinian members and the Palestinians
05:08to do the work of reaching an agreement around the first step of this agreement
05:15through the work of the release of the real war and the number of the Palestinians and the Palestinians of the Palestinians,
05:23and the agreement of the Israeli forces to make the peace on earth for the purpose of the real war and the peace of the peace plan.
05:32Qatar, a long-time mediator between Israel and Hamas, raised an opposing viewpoint, citing major obstacles ahead.
05:41Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his cabinet is fully behind Trump's plan,
06:06which calls for the release of all hostages, the disbandment of Hamas, and for Gaza to be placed under international governance.
06:15Trump said earlier this week that he believes that there is a really good chance of reaching a lasting deal soon.
06:25The Ukrainian region of Sumy came under heavy fire as Russia targeted at least four cities overnight,
06:32causing damage to buildings and sparking fires.
06:35There were no initial reports of injuries.
06:38Rescuers were forced to suspend their operations several times due to the risk of repeated attacks.
06:45Moscow also damaged one of Ukraine's thermal power plants in the overnight attack, injuring at least two workers.
06:52It comes as Russia continues to pursue its campaign to cut Ukrainians off from energy supplies as winter approaches.
06:58Ukraine, meanwhile, has been hitting back with long-range strikes on the Russian energy supply,
07:06recently causing outages in some Russian regions along the border.
07:10The Russian Defense Ministry said that its air defenses intercepted over 50 Ukrainian drones over nine Russian regions overnight into Wednesday.
07:19And in Belgorod, at least three people were killed during a Ukrainian attack on the region.
07:24Following the disruption caused by recent unknown drone sightings at Munich Airport,
07:32Germany will now give its federal police permission to shoot down drones.
07:37The cabinet approved the new reform of the Federal Police Act on Wednesday, which now awaits approval in Parliament.
07:44Interior Minister Alexander Dobrin said the reform is intended to reorganize responsibilities and make it easier to defend against drones.
08:18Multiple drone sightings at Munich Airport led the airport to shut down twice,
08:23resulting in traffic disruptions with thousands of passengers directly affected.
08:28Other European countries, including Denmark and Lithuania, have also spotted rogue drones in recent weeks.
08:35EU leaders, such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, have attributed the incidents to Russian hybrid warfare,
08:42something Moscow denies.
08:43Donald Trump was in Washington this week with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
08:51I think he's a great Prime Minister. I mean, he could represent me any time.
09:02We are the second largest trading partner of the United States.
09:04We do a lot of trade going across the border. We're cooperating, first thing.
09:09Secondly, we are the largest foreign investor in the United States.
09:12He's an extremely popular Prime Minister, and I'm very honoured to do it, because I liked him.
09:18Right from the beginning, I liked him, and we've had a good relationship.
09:21We have some natural conflict, but we will probably work that out.
09:26But we've had a very strong relationship.
09:28Well, thank you very much, everybody. It's an honour to have the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney.
09:43That could have been a good one. Thank you very much.
09:46Thank you very much.
09:47Three scientists have won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for creating a new type of molecular structure
10:01that can remove carbon dioxide from air and pollutants from water.
10:05The winners, Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar Yagi, represent Kyoto University,
10:13Australia's University of Melbourne, and UC Berkeley, respectively.
10:18Their innovation involves metal-organic frameworks, or MFOs,
10:23materials built with metal nodes and organic linkers forming cages.
10:27These let molecules in and out.
10:29The Nobel Committee said the material has the capacity to hold a large amount in a tiny space.
10:36MFOs can help clean forever chemicals from water,
10:40break down drug residues,
10:42and could power carbon capture and green energy technologies.
10:46Since 1901, 116 Nobel Prizes in Chemistry have been awarded.
10:52Only eight winners have been women.
10:59Cristiano Ronaldo has set yet another record by becoming the first footballer
11:04with an estimated wealth of more than a billion euros.
11:08The player's already considerable fortune increased in June
11:12when he renewed his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nasr.
11:15That is according to Bloomberg.
11:18In addition to the sporting contracts,
11:20Bloomberg also highlighted the player's income from advertising contracts.
11:24Ronaldo signed several contracts with brands such as Nike, Armani and Castrol.
11:30As well as the financial record,
11:32Cristiano Ronaldo has 665 million followers on Instagram,
11:36more than any other footballer on social media.
