00:00Let's go to B in San Jose.
00:02Hey, B, what's going on?
00:03Thanks for the call.
00:06Hey, Willard and Dib.
00:09You're both doing a great job.
00:11I'm guessing you guys have already heard the Juwan Jennings soundbite
00:15about the five broken ribs, right?
00:17Indeed, yep.
00:22And scene.
00:23B, we can't hear you, man.
00:24Can you find a good spot and give us a call back?
00:27Nick would love to hear what he wants to say about the quote
00:31about the five broken ribs, which is right here.
00:33Yeah, I got five broken ribs.
00:35Is your plan to just do pain tolerance?
00:39Oh, yeah, it's football.
00:40I love pain.
00:41I wouldn't be playing that sport if I didn't.
00:42You know, it's part of it, man.
00:43You got to enjoy every little pain that comes with it,
00:45and pain is one of those.
00:47Okay.
00:48Can I ask a new question about this?
00:51When have you ever heard a player admit all of that stuff
00:53right in the middle of the season?
00:54Not very often.
00:56Why did he do it yesterday?
00:57Because he was not getting the sort of attention from the play caller
01:03and the passer that he thought that he deserved,
01:05and, you know, he went out there and said it,
01:07and I'm sure you heard the Trent Williams comments after the game as well.
01:10He's like, yeah, a lot of guys are playing through a lot of things,
01:13not only in ankle and ribs,
01:15but our quarterback had to get shot up in order to go out there and play.
01:18So there's that.
01:20Yeah.
01:20In other words, quit your crying.
01:22Yeah, exactly.
01:23And, again, like Mac Jones, as one of the first people I thought of,
01:27after the game, what did Mac have to say?
01:29All he said was, nothing serious.
01:32It's nothing serious.
01:33Right.
01:33Right.
01:33So to Mac Jones, what's, quote, nothing serious would have most of us
01:37regular people in the fetal position for a week.
01:40Like, are you kidding me?
01:42An oblique?
01:43A knee?
01:45He went through cramping last week on a Thursday?
01:48Like, if nothing else, if nothing else, the last month has given all of us
01:55an admiration for Mac Jones.
01:57I don't care what anybody thinks about him as a QB or the quarterback position
02:01in San Francisco.
02:02If you don't have an admiration for the way he's battled for the last month,
02:07you don't really have a football pulse.
02:09Yeah, Grandy, what's up?
02:10I just want to make sure we set the stage for that comment correctly
02:14because he was first asked at the locker postgame how he feels physically.
02:19This was his first answer.
02:20Juwan, how do you feel physically?
02:22You know, playing with injuries is just something that's a part of it, you know.
02:25You got high, low ankle sprains.
02:27You got shoulders, you know, 20%.
02:30You got ribs, five broken ribs.
02:32It is what it is.
02:33You keep playing.
02:34And nobody cares.
02:35You keep playing.
02:36That's what we do.
02:37And then the follow-up was, wait, Juwan, you have five broken ribs?
02:39Yeah, I got five broken ribs.
02:42Is your plan to just do pain tolerance?
02:46Oh, yeah, it's football.
02:47I love pain.
02:47I wouldn't be playing that sport if I didn't.
02:49You know, it's part of it, man.
02:50You got to enjoy every little pain that comes with it, and pain is one of those.
02:53I don't know if that changes it to you, but I feel like the context,
02:57we were taking it a little bit out of context because he first said,
03:00yeah, I'm beating up.
03:01I'm playing through it.
03:02I love doing it.
03:02That's what football is about.
03:03And then he was asked to follow-up about specifically what he's going through.
03:06Right, but, well, actually, I would say he was asked to follow-up
03:09about five broken ribs because he said he had five broken ribs.
03:12Like, I still feel like that is Juwan telling specific injuries
03:17into a microphone unprompted.
03:19Like, you can be asked about playing through pain,
03:23and you can be general about it.
03:25I think any player would be general about it.
03:27I have never, I don't want to say never.
03:29It is very rare that you would hear an NFL player start to list the specifics
03:36of the injuries that he's dealing with and playing through.
03:40Because if for no other reason, it puts him in danger.
03:44It puts him in danger.
03:45You don't tell the other team, I've got five broken ribs.
03:49Now, if you're a Falcons defender, what are you doing next week
03:51when you're lined up against Juwan?
03:53Yeah, they're coming for his five broken ribs.
03:55And his shoulder, is it 20%?
03:59I still, you know me, I love the percentages.
04:02How the hell, what does that mean?
04:03Is it 20%?
04:0523?
04:06Yeah.
04:0628?
04:07Like.
04:07What's 33?
04:08How's that feel?
04:09I don't even know what this means when people ask for a percentage
04:12with regard to injuries.
04:15Is Brock at 80%?
04:17Would he play at 90%?
04:19What does that mean?
04:20Like, I don't know.
04:22Juwan's probably in pain.
04:23Mack Jones is in pain.
04:26But if you start telling everybody the specifics,
04:30there's a reason players don't do that.
04:32It does.
04:33It sounds like you're asking for sympathy.
04:36There's no way around that.
04:38There's no way.
04:39There's no way to make it sound a different way.
04:41And that's where you have teammates talking about other people's injuries,
04:45and now you're creating a conversation that none of these players wants.
04:49And, you know, Trent Williams is out there talking about
04:51how everyone's playing through something,
04:52and, yeah, the whole team is basically injured.
04:56And so Juwan's got multiple injuries,
04:58and yet if you're out there, and I do believe this,
05:01like if you're, obviously he's very tough,
05:03if you have five broken ribs and you're still out there playing tackle football
05:07at the highest level,
05:08then you're either really, really tough or crazy or probably both.
05:12And so, yeah, if you're doing that,
05:15then you're out there doing it,
05:16and so you'll be judged based on the fact that you're playing pro football.
05:19Yeah, I mean, that's something that, I mean, I know,
05:22and you and I don't necessarily see this the exact same way,
05:25but this was something we got into last year.
05:27You feel like if somebody's in uniform and on the field, they're healthy.
05:31Well, healthy is not, I mean, it's a relative term,
05:35but if you are in uniform and you're playing in the game,
05:39then you're well enough to play, and that's your choice,
05:43and it's the team's choice.
05:44And so if you're well enough to play,
05:46then you're going to be judged based on the fact that you're a pro football player
05:50playing pro football, and that's the way that goes.
05:54Now, if you're Ricky Pearsall,
05:56and maybe Juwan Jennings is hurt worse than Ricky Pearsall.
05:59I don't really know, but Ricky's not playing
06:01because Ricky doesn't feel like,
06:03the medical team doesn't feel like he can go out there and play,
06:06and Juwan, I don't know if the medical team's like,
06:08yeah, you know, if you get the six broken ribs,
06:11we're going to have to pull you out.
06:12But five?
06:14You know, five will let you play.
06:15And the shoulder, which is 20%,
06:17and then the calf,
06:19and then you've got, you know, two different ankle sprains.
06:22At that point, like, what are you doing, Juwan?
06:24Well, I mean, as you know, not all injuries are built the same,
06:28and so my bet would be, you know,
06:30you could make the case maybe that Juwan is more hurt than Ricky,
06:34but what parts of your body are you willing to mess around with?
06:38Broken ribs are broken ribs.
06:40They hurt really bad, but they're broken ribs.
06:43So you wear some sort of a jacket underneath your uniform
06:47to kind of protect that.
06:49What's his other injury?
06:50A shoulder.
06:51Okay, it's the same type of thing.
06:53You know what I mean?
06:54Like, those are pain management things.
06:56If you've got a wide receiver,
06:58and you're wide receiver one who's dealing with a knee
07:01that has instability,
07:04now that's not something you screw around with
07:05because if there's one wrong step there,
07:08now we'll see you next year.
07:09Right.
07:10Right?
07:10So that's probably, there's a little bit of that that's going on,
07:13but there's no question.
07:14You've talked to Lowe Neal about this, I know,
07:17a hundred times,
07:18that yes, guys are judging each other.
07:21Like, I'm out there doing this with this pain,
07:23and you're not out there doing that pain.
07:25I mean, you remember, was it Julian Edelman who famously,
07:29or no, it was one of the tight ends.
07:32Somebody famously hucked Garoppolo under the bus
07:35for what he would not play through in New England,
07:38and Jacoby Brissett had to come back in,
07:42and I think he was even more hurt.
07:44But he had to go in and play, and Jimmy wouldn't play.
07:48Jimmy was, he had put some things on tape,
07:51and I think he thought he had positioned himself
07:53for a gig elsewhere, and he was right.
07:54I think it was Martellus Bennett.
07:56Martellus Bennett, that's exactly right.
07:58Thank you, Grandy.
07:59That's exactly who it was.
08:01So yeah, guys are keeping track of this stuff.
08:03There's a scoreboard in people's minds, no doubt.
08:06And that's just, I mean, how it always is going to go, right?
08:09And everybody's going to judge everyone,
08:11and when you're in a locker room of tough guys
08:14and alpha males, then not everyone can play through
08:17everything like you're talking about.
08:20And for Juwan to go out there and put these things
08:22out there public, and then you have Trent Williams
08:24coming in, and not speaking directly to Juwan,
08:28but talking in general about what everyone's going through,
08:31yeah, it's brutal, especially when you're in the 49ers,
08:34because you're all hurt.
08:36You're the Niners.
08:37Everybody's hurt all the time.
08:38And your quarterback has got turf toe,
08:41which sounds really innocent and benign,
08:44but it's a thing.
08:45And the other quarterback is out there getting,
08:47you know, his oblique shot up,
08:48and he's got a knee issue,
08:50and he was cramping,
08:52and he was dry heaving,
08:53and he's got multiple braces on,
08:55and yet he's going out there and playing.
08:57Not that you're looking at one quarterback
08:59versus the other one,
09:00because, you know,
09:01everybody out there who's playing in week six,
09:03you're all probably dinged up,
09:05but you don't usually talk about it.
09:07That's kind of the code.
09:08B in San Jose is back.
09:10Hey, B, thank you for calling.
09:11What's up?
09:14Hey, Willie and Divs.
09:15Thanks for taking my call again.
09:16So, yeah, you guys definitely have the info
09:20on the five broken ribs for Juwan Jennings.
09:23I'm here to ease the tension
09:25on Bay Area sports fans a little bit.
09:26You guys remember a couple years back
09:28when you did the 12 Days of Christmas
09:30Bay Area Sports Edition?
09:32Yes.
09:33Yes.
09:35Well, I'm here to deliver some content.
09:37I think I have it all the way
09:38from five golden rings down
09:39to a partridge of pear tree,
09:40if you'll humor me.
09:41All right.
09:42You can take this content.
09:43It's my in-kind donation for you, okay?
09:45You're a little early on the holidays,
09:48but we'll allow it, B,
09:49because I think everybody could use a cheer up.
09:55It ain't ever too early, man.
09:56Target already got the trees
09:57hanging up there in the shelves.
09:59I mean, usually you wait
10:00until after Halloween, but okay.
10:03So you can go, you know,
10:05five broken ribs,
10:07four Warriors starters over 35 years old,
10:11three reliable Giants starting pitchers,
10:14two JK contract years,
10:16and Steve Kerr on his last year.
10:20Yeah!
10:22A little wordy.
10:24A little.
10:25But very, very timely.
10:27So good.
10:27Thoughtful.
10:28And delivered with confidence and flair.
10:31I'm into it.
10:32I give it a solid B plus B.
10:34Yeah.
10:36I'll take it, man.
10:37It sounds like it's beyond passing.
10:38Y'all can take it and run with it.
10:40If you guys do another one, you know,
10:42similar to five Ross tripling,
10:45take that and run with it.
10:47I don't mind.
10:48Man.
10:49Thanks, B.
10:49That's a good three.
10:51That was year one.
10:52That was you and Kyle Madsen.
10:53I was going to say,
10:54I don't think you were here.
10:55I think you were already on vacation.
10:56Yeah.
10:57And you and Kyle did it.
10:58It was great.
10:59Five Ross tripling.
11:01Oh, my God.
11:06We'd have to go back.
11:07I don't even remember what any of the other ones were.
11:09Six sacks allowed.
11:11Five broken ribs.
11:15It's pretty good.
11:16We did something about Farhan's, like,
11:21remember all of his little mini signings?
11:24You know, where he would just, like, grab somebody who was like,
11:26yeah, Farhan would, like, grab somebody who was somebody else's
11:31eighth string catcher in AA and he'd be like,
11:33this guy's going to be amazing.
11:34Wait till you see.
11:35Oh, I got to go find that because now I want to remember
11:39what all the other ones were.
11:40It was pretty funny.
11:42I'll find it.
11:43Like, you should sing this year.
11:45We should do it again.
11:47And you should sing.
11:49That's what I think.
11:50You think?
11:51Yeah, I do.
11:52All right.
11:52Yeah.
11:54How Ross tripling announced his retirement.
11:56From Major League Baseball recently.
11:59Well, we're going to have to come up with something else
12:01that rhymes with rings.
12:03It was the 12 days of sports-ness is what you guys did.
12:08I'll find it.
12:10Stupid.
12:11Yep.
12:12Anyway, we could probably do an entire one about just about
12:17minor injuries.
12:19You know what I mean?
12:19Can we take a minute?
12:21It's just crazy, dude.
12:22It's crazy.
12:24How are we supposed to, you know what I mean?
12:27What are we supposed to do with this?
12:29What are we supposed to do with this?
12:31Play football on Sunday.
12:32No, I know, I know.
12:33But get into the majesty of it all for a second.
12:37Don't be so functional.
12:38Don't be so, like, anthill.
12:40We're on to Cincinnati.
12:41No, but I just, like, I feel bad, obviously, for Fred first.
12:46I feel bad for the team that puts the blood, sweat, and tears into this.
12:50But we've got to remember, you know, you and I, like, okay,
12:53we're a couple dudes who've been around for a minute over here.
12:56Like, a younger fan, these players, like, they're gladiators.
13:00They're magical.
13:01You get wide-eyed.
13:03You get to see these heroes on TV.
13:07Or if you're lucky enough to get a ticket, you get to go see these players play.
13:11And the Niners, it's like I said, man.
13:13And actually, maybe during the break here, I will come up with a list.
13:16Like, name value 49ers.
13:19Top 10 name value 49ers.
13:23Like, back to August.
13:24More than half of them are currently not playing.
13:28Well, currently, sure.
13:29Yeah.
13:30More than half of them have missed more than half of the year.
13:33If not most of the year.
13:35I mean, Bosa, more than half of the year.
13:38Purdy, Kittle, more than half.
13:39Ayuk, all of it.
13:41Juwan, more than half.
13:43Pearsall, closing in on half.
13:45Fred, out for the year.
13:47Like, two of them aren't coming back.
13:49And so, we can sit here all we want to and say, like, well, the other ones are coming back.
13:53Well, maybe.
13:54Maybe.
13:55Well, they are.
13:56Well, yeah.
13:57And then, like, and they might get hurt again.
13:59They might get re-injured.
14:00Brock already came back.
14:01Now he's gone again.
14:02Like, you're going to tell me there's no way Kittle is going to have any problems coming off of this
14:08after we get told constantly that calves and hamstrings are the hardest things to figure out?
14:13And they're giving us all these signals of, like, well, he might come back.
14:17Like, oh, crap.
14:19I don't want might.
14:21Like, I want these guys to be super, super solidly back on their feet before they play again.
14:27Well, then they shouldn't play football.
14:30I mean.
14:30No, I don't mean that.
14:31You shouldn't play football if that's what we want.
14:33No, no, no, no.
14:33You are on the same team with regard to Brock needs to be a hundo before he plays again.
14:39And I still believe that.
14:40Okay.
14:40That's all I'm saying.
14:41I'm not worried about Brock versus Mack as far as Atlanta goes at all.
14:45And I'm gutted about Fred Warner because not only do I think that he is an awesome player, he's a super great guy and he's a lot of fun to watch.
14:54As a Niner fan, even if your team is not great like last year, you can still watch Fred Warner and say, man, he's a fun guy to watch.
15:03It's a lot like watching Monte Ellis with the Warriors when they stunk.
15:06It's like Monte's really good.
15:08Or even Latrell Sprewell.
15:09I love Latrell.
15:10And they were terrible.
15:11Doesn't mean that Latrell wasn't good.
15:13So when Fred Warner's out there, it gives you something to watch.
15:16And yeah, right now you look at the defense and you don't have Nick Bosa, who's also really fun to watch.
15:21And Fred Warner now is gone for the year.
15:24And so, yeah, that sucks.
15:26And, you know, weird things happen.
15:28I don't know if you saw this around the league yesterday.
15:30Charverius Mooney Ward.
15:32That was the weirdest.
15:33Concussion in warm-ups.
15:34In warm-ups.
15:35And Anthony Richardson.
15:36Anthony Richardson, broken orbital.
15:38Yeah, he went on IR.
15:40What the hell happened in Colts warm-ups yesterday?
15:43I missed that video, but I've had that injury and that one hurts.
15:47Right here, the orbital.
15:49Broken cheekbone.
15:50I told you the story a couple weeks ago.
15:51What injury have you not had?
