00:00And I know exactly how I feel coming out of that conversation.
00:05Juwan Jennings has lost this battle.
00:07For now, yeah, for sure.
00:08That's how I feel. That's 100% how I feel.
00:10And pending week one, of course, but the idea that Russell Gage is going to be on the 53 any minute now,
00:17and he'll be there at practice today in an hour,
00:19and you already added Marquez Valdez-Scantling, and Kendrick Bourne could still be out there,
00:25and maybe he gets thrown in the mix as well.
00:27Well, basically, they look at the Juwan Jennings situation and say,
00:31all right, well, you don't want to play, and your calf, whatever, your cash,
00:35we don't know what it is, but we need receivers.
00:38So pow, pow, pow, we got receivers.
00:42What do you got, Juwan?
00:43Yep. Not a bit of leverage anymore.
00:45Not much, yep.
00:46Is the answer to that.
00:47And the money quote that everyone's going to walk away with right now is Juwan Jennings,
00:52John Lynch admitted, asked for a trade earlier this offseason.
00:57And we went over it, and we're not doing that.
01:00We're not doing that.
01:01We're not doing that.
01:02So, first of all, I'd like to say thanks to John Lynch for listening to our show.
01:06Totally.
01:07And grabbing one of our consistent quotes.
01:09But, yeah, that's the money quote.
01:12We're not doing that.
01:13Right.
01:13And the more we dive into this, and as I'm kind of now listening to what they said about all of those,
01:19the reported incentives this year, John Lynch said that that was erroneous.
01:24That was basically last year's contract.
01:26Stiney had mentioned that earlier today.
01:28He was right about that.
01:29So, I don't think there are contract incentives.
01:33I think that there's only about $3 million that's not paid yet on this year's deal.
01:39And so, you can look at this and go, what do the Niners have to lose?
01:44Like, to make this simple, I think that they're looking at Juwan going basically, like,
01:49there's $3 million left on your deal for this year if you play.
01:53And that might feel unfair to you, and we get it, but them's the breaks.
01:59And if you want to just sit there and have a staring contest with us, over $3 million,
02:04knock yourself out.
02:05We're just going to have Russell Gage and Marquez Valdez-Scantling patchwork this thing
02:11until Demarcus Robinson becomes active, until Brandon Ayuk becomes active,
02:17until Jordan Watkins gets healthy, and until Jacob Cowan gets healthy.
02:21And so, your leverage is only going to get worse throughout the season.
02:25Juwan, you tried.
02:27I had your back for trying.
02:29I get it why you tried.
02:30You're probably never going to put numbers up like that again.
02:33But you lost this battle, dude.
02:35You lost this battle.
02:36And so, now, to my ears, I know, oh, he might, two things can be true.
02:41He has a calf injury.
02:42Sure.
02:42And a contractual situation.
02:44Yes, two things can be true.
02:46I'm going to choose to believe that in this case, they're not.
02:49But this is a holdout, and the Niners just told him, show up next week or don't.
02:55Or don't.
02:55We're ready for this.
02:57Either way, I'm sorry, Juwan, you lost.
03:00And they have to be ready for it.
03:01And so, if they're not sure if he will show up, and they know more about the calf than we do,
03:06and if the calf is close enough to where he could show up in practice,
03:09and they feel like that he still doesn't want to show up in practice,
03:13then you go out there, and you bring back Gage, and you sign Marquez Valdez-Scantling,
03:18who is not a world beater, but he's a guy who has done some things in the NFL.
03:23Career NFL receiver.
03:24He's an NFL receiver, and you've got Demarcus Robinson in week four,
03:27and you've got Gage, who a couple years ago was an NFL receiver.
03:31So, you're definitely trying to circle your wagons to bring in guys who you at least feel like can be stopgap
03:38if Juwan doesn't want to play football.
03:40Marquez Valdez-Scantling, 3,566 career receiving yards.
03:48Twice, he flirted with the 700 mark.
03:51That would have been his best year.
03:53Yeah, he's never been a one.
03:54He's never even really been a two.
03:56He's kind of a classic three.
03:58Yeah, he's a journeyman.
03:59Yeah, but, like, you know, time with Green Bay and Kansas City,
04:03and then I think last year split some time between New Orleans and Buffalo.
04:08This year he was in Seahawks camp.
04:10Now he's a 49er if the Niners can get three games out of him.
04:14Exactly.
04:14Great.
04:15Great.
04:16And that's where the bar is, and same thing with Russell Gage.
04:18So, Gage comes in today, and he'll be added to the 53.
04:22So, we talked about this yesterday, like, week one, who are your receivers if you don't have Juwan Jennings?
04:27Well, now you've got Russell Gage, you've got Marquez Valdez-Scantling, you've got Ricky Pearsall, you've got Sky Moore.
04:34That's your group.
04:35Right.
04:36And maybe, like, somebody else who you can elevate, or maybe Juwan shows up, but you at least have four that you can go into Seattle and say,
04:43okay, we have four.
04:44I think you just said exactly what they're going to do, because they usually like to have five wide receivers on game day.
04:49So, right now the plan is Ricky Pearsall, Sky Moore, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, Russell Gage, and Juwan Jennings.
04:59And if Juwan would like to not be there, we'll elevate somebody from the practice squad.
05:02Robbie Chosen is on the squad.
05:03And Jordan Watkins is probably ready by week two or week three.
05:08DeMarcus Robinson's ready by week four.
05:10And so, I get it.
05:12Super, super frustrating for Juwan.
05:15I bet he feels like a piece of meat.
05:18Because this is kind of, like, I'll hold this for coming up in a couple minutes.
05:23I think where we've arrived is a crisis of timing.
05:29And I'm almost going to end up using the word that we've always used for Jonathan Kaminga.
05:35Exactly.
05:35All roads.
05:36You've got a good team, and you've got a good player.
05:39But is it a good fit?
05:41And I'll explain coming up in two minutes why we've arrived at Juwan Jennings doesn't fit.
05:48I wish he did.
05:49I really do.
05:51And I think they do.
05:52I think they badly want Juwan this year.
05:56I don't think they're all that interested after that.
05:59And that's the problem.
06:01Sure.
06:01And if you look at after that, you've got Ayuk on massive money.
06:05You still have Pearsall, who should be good on a rookie deal.
06:09Watkins would be a second-year player next year on a rookie deal.
06:12And you start to look at what you have going forward.
06:15Cowan year three.
06:16Thank you, on a rookie deal.
06:18So you've got guys that you think could be good.
06:21And so if Juwan wants 15, 17 million per year, that's going to be a no from them, dog.
06:27And also, we're not trading him.
06:30And this is what you and I talked about in the green room.
06:32If they try to trade him, what are they going to get, a six?
06:35If they're lucky.
06:36At this late date.
06:38You're right.
06:39The calendar's in a bad spot.
06:40Juwan wants more money, so the acquiring team would need to pay for that.
06:45I just don't think they would get bubkis for him.
06:48And I probably think that they would have shopped him seven weeks ago.
06:52Maybe.
06:52I'm sure they called around.
06:53Right.
06:53Due diligence.
06:54And if they got back, hey, we'll give you a sixth.
06:56They're like, no.
06:57Nah.
