00:00Welcome to your latest update from the Met Office. A few more days of mostly monochromatic skies and not a lot of rainfall, all thanks to this chunky area of high pressure sitting over us and not really moving too far.
00:14Why is it not moving too far? Well, it's all to do with the position of the jet stream moving around this low that's sticking around out in the Atlantic.
00:23The jet stream then arches up and down and there's another low across the near continent. The shape is called an omega block and it means we've got a chunky blocking area of high pressure just sitting over us and not really moving very far.
00:39The high pressure means the air is generally sinking and so, as I said, not a lot of rain in the forecast.
00:44Having said that, the cloud is thick enough for some light drizzle here and there.
00:47It was on Monday morning and that cloud again likely to produce some drizzle here and there through Monday night and into Tuesday morning.
00:54The Midlands, parts of eastern England, susceptible to that.
00:57Otherwise, most areas dry and it's in the west where we do have some breaks in the cloud, but of clear skies across Scotland will allow some fog patches to form
01:05and allow those temperatures to dip away well down into single figures here, whereas where it stays cloudy, temperatures will hold up in double digits.
01:14On to Tuesday's details, and it's a similar story to Monday's really.
01:19Again, there will be the thickest cloud over the Midlands and eastern England.
01:22A little bit of light rain and drizzle is possible here and there, impossible to say exactly when and where, but yeah, just going to dampen things every now and then.
01:31Whereas in the west, some breaks in the cloud, West Wales, southwest England also may do a little bit better for sunshine during Tuesday.
01:37And again, a good part of central and western Scotland once the fog's cleared and it may take a while to clear.
01:43We should here, too, see some good spells of sunshine.
01:46The winds are pretty light, so in that sunshine it feels quite pleasant with temperatures around about average squeaking into the teens in many places.
01:53But if you're stuck with the really leaden skies and that drizzle coming on and off, it doesn't feel all that pleasant.
01:59And just the breeze picking up a little bit at times along the coast of East Anglia and down towards Kent's, maybe punching a few holes in the cloud perhaps as we go through the day and into the evening.
02:09But otherwise, not a great deal of change.
02:11You can see the winds moving around the big area of high pressure that's still sitting over, still meaning the air is generally sinking down and, well, not a great deal of change through Wednesday.
02:23Perhaps the breeze picking up over the Northern Isles, greater chance of a few more showers for Shetland, especially during the day, perhaps even elsewhere across northern parts of the mainland of Scotland, one or two light showers.
02:33And still, East Anglia and the Southeast susceptible to a few light showers at times, and it will again be the west coast of Scotland, parts of Wales and south-west England that have the best chance of seeing some sunny spells.
02:45But it's never really a guarantee when you've got this high pressure, those areas of cloud just move around and hard to pin down, really.
02:53But for many, it does look like, again, Wednesday will be a fairly drab affair with temperatures again, 12, 13 across the north.
03:00If we see some sunshine, maybe getting to the mid-teens further south and west.
03:05But overall, I'd say pretty close to the average for the time of year.
03:08And that high pressure sticking around for most of the week, probably into the weekend as well.
