00:00Make it happen.
00:23Please welcome your host, Fleur East.
00:30Hello and welcome to your Thursday episode of It Takes Two, live on BBC Two and iPlayer.
00:44It's Thursday, which means we are oh so close to Saturday night.
00:47Shoes are being polished, tans are being topped up, and Craig's deciding if you're trading
00:52his role of the villain this year.
00:54Nah.
00:55Nah.
00:56If you're looking for some hot stuff to get you excited for movie week, then go to the
00:59grab your popcorn and look no further, because here is what we've got in store for you tonight.
01:06This Geordie lass fox trotted her way into the judges' hearts and straight into movie week,
01:11but will she be able to keep those nerves reined in, or will the Charleston keep them from happily
01:16ever after?
01:16The judges had no objection to their drive, but with movie week fast approaching, Aliash
01:23and Chris are here to tell us if the waltz will be super Cali fabulistic, or just a spoonful
01:27of sugar away from red light survival.
01:31We also have an exclusive look at the very wicked group dance this weekend.
01:35And she's back and ready to create some movie magic, it's Vicky Gill.
01:43She'll be here to show us how she's been helping our couples step into character.
01:49And remember, you can send our couples your questions, so if you ever wanted to know how
01:53they hype themselves up in the training room, or what themed week they're most looking forward
01:57to, then you can WhatsApp on our number, 0800 022 3801, or just scan the QR code on your
02:04screen.
02:04Phew, what a busy show.
02:06So let's get straight to it.
02:08Our first celeb was hoping to repeat last week's success by topping the leaderboard, and
02:12although her tango had the heart of a lioness, the judges didn't quite think it had the bite.
02:21You were driving that, my darling, and you hit some really amazingly strong lines.
02:27Think about breathing, connect you to your partner, and really understand the fundamentals.
02:33You bring so much, the timing, the cleanness of your dance, I think you're going to be
02:38a powerhouse in this competition.
02:43It's Karen and Carlos!
02:46I mean, Kaz, one word, fierce.
02:49How was Saturday night for you?
02:51I was very nervous, I'm not going to lie, but I really enjoyed doing the tango.
02:56It was something very different, very new, but I totally went for it, tried to be fierce.
03:01Maybe a little bit too fierce, I don't know, but I really enjoyed it, though.
03:04It was just the right level of fierce.
03:06Okay.
03:07And Carlos, it was Kaz's first ballroom.
03:09How impressed were you with her tango?
03:10I know, it's her first ballroom, and the posture, everything was so hard for her, you know, and
03:17she tried so hard, but the energy in her legs, and the spin it in the dance, and the effort
03:22she put it in, speechless.
03:25And I'm really proud, it's her first ballroom.
03:27And it turns out she's not a ballroom girl, she's a Latin girl.
03:29Mm-hmm.
03:30She talks.
03:30Who knew?
03:31We know that you used bouncing a football to get in the zone for the jive.
03:35Yeah.
03:35So what pre-ritual did you have for this dance?
03:38Well, I asked for the ball again, because I felt quite comfortable, but this time, this
03:42guy wanted to get involved, so literally went on, he went, throw it to me, and I'll head
03:46it.
03:46So I threw it to him, and he headed it, and me being in heels, it went through my legs,
03:51and instead of bouncing it, and I panicked, and the guy was like, 30 seconds till you're on,
03:54so I'm scrambling the ball, chugged it out, and then we went into, like, pose mode.
03:57So it was chaos, literally.
03:59Put the ball out of the way, dancing.
04:00Yeah, that's why I was fierce.
04:01So much goes on back there.
04:03Yeah.
04:04You scored 20, which was a bit of a dip compared to your previous 31, but you were still at
04:09the top of the combined leaderboard, so were you confident going into the results, knowing
04:13that?
04:14No, I said to Carlos, I think we're out.
04:16Yeah, you were at the top end.
04:17Yeah, you have no idea how many times she says to me, Carlos, I'm nervous, Carlos, I'm
04:21nervous.
04:22I said, don't be nervous, I think you're okay, but don't be nervous, I'm nervous, I'm
04:25nervous.
04:25I was like, oh, bless you.
04:26I know, I was kind of cuddling to you, I feel nervous, I think, you know, but it's
04:30not great, is it, the elimination, it's so nerve-wracking, but, yeah.
04:36There's a lot going on, a lot of emotions.
04:38There's a lot going on.
04:38And we heard on Saturday night about your spinal condition that you've had since childhood,
04:42so how much of a challenge is that going to be for you in this competition?
04:45I'm not going to lie, it was hard, and as Carlos mentioned, getting into frame is quite
04:50difficult, but I'm happy, I'm healthy, and there's been a lot of improvement.
04:54Even from, like, the launch show, I couldn't, I had to, it looked like I did that, and now
04:59I can, like, do that.
05:00You know, there's been improvement for me, and that's what I want to keep doing.
05:04There's things I won't be able to do, but with his help, with his support, we'll get there,
05:08and like I said, I'm happy, I'm healthy, and it doesn't stop me doing the dance.
05:11Exactly, we'll take it week by week.
05:14The tango's in the past, all right?
05:15So we're moving on to this weekend, where you'll be dancing the cha-cha-cha to this.
05:20She's a lady.
05:22She's a lady by Tom Jones.
05:24She's a lady.
05:24A strictly tribute to the movie Miss Congeniality.
05:28I love this movie.
05:29I love the film.
05:30Tell us about your characters.
05:32I personally think Carlos should play the role, because he plays it so well.
05:35I know.
05:36I think it's wasted, I want to give the public what they want.
05:38This is you from today, this is looking good.
05:40Is this today?
05:41Yeah.
05:41Oh, wow, they're sneaky, the film crew, aren't they?
05:43Very sneaky.
05:44We see it all.
05:45Yeah, it's really fun.
05:46I'm really enjoying it, and he's done some great moves.
05:49She's really genuinely smiling in this dance, so I have to pass my crumb like Tiara to her,
05:54because she's really enjoying it.
05:56That's the most thing I know.
05:58That's an honor, Kaz.
05:59That's a real honor.
06:02Carlos has been helping you bring out your inner lady.
06:04What has it been like exploring that side of yourself on the dance floor?
06:08I mean, it's intimidating.
06:10I mean, it's not something that, you know, we literally, as we're walking here, it's
06:13like, okay, practice your cat, cat, walk, walk.
06:16Yeah, cat, walk.
06:16So I was walking going, strut, strut, strut, strut, strut, and he's like, head still.
06:20Head still, head still.
06:20Yeah, exactly.
06:21Well, you did say that we are very sneaky, and we do actually have a clip of how you've
06:25been getting on.
06:26Are you joking?
06:27In the training room.
06:27Oh, in the training room.
06:29Slow down, like from the neck.
06:31You try.
06:38You were excellent.
06:39You copy me.
06:40Do exactly what I did.
06:41Oh, yeah.
06:42Don't worry.
06:42You can go.
06:43How are you helping Kaz embrace that glamorous confidence?
06:53He's helping, right?
06:54I'm showing her, I said, just copy me.
06:56I'll do this, copy me.
06:58But she's doing really well today, until now.
07:01She's really giving herself, she's trying.
07:03I said, forget about Karen Carney.
07:05Yes.
07:05Think about yourself, break everything down, try it, and she's really giving it, and she's
07:11having it.
07:11I was so, so thrilled.
07:14Today's training, she was giving me, her eyes was on fire.
07:19I went, that's it.
07:20That's it.
07:20And yeah, I'm buzzing for a Saturday, actually.
07:22Yeah, I'm buzzing, I'm buzzing for both of you.
07:24I'm curious to know, Kaz, has the elimination ignited that competitive side within you?
07:29No, I'm absolutely petrified.
07:30I just, I can't, I know it's a competition, but in my head it's not.
07:34Like, I love this, and I don't like the process, I don't like seeing, whether it's been myself
07:38or anyone going home, because no one deserves it, because we're all working hard, but I know
07:42I've signed up to it, so I just have to cuddle into him and just pray and just see what
07:46happens.
07:46Yeah, keep your fingers crossed.
07:47Yeah.
07:48Well, you're having fun, and we can see that, and we can't wait to see you dance on Saturday.
07:51It's Karen and Carlos, everyone.
07:56Well done, well done.
07:58Yes.
07:58Before we chat to the rest of our guests, let's take a look at how Balvinda, Ellie, Ross,
08:03Harry and Amber are getting on in training.
08:05I'm actually really enjoying learning the Foxtrot.
08:09Circle the leg.
08:10A lot to think about in terms of the quick, quick, slow steps.
08:15We want to make sure that we have effortless chemistry throughout this routine, and we
08:18need to be nice and fluid for that.
08:20I've just got to dance.
08:22I'll just do this around you.
08:24That's beautiful, though.
08:25I've just got to get out my head if I'm like.
08:27Mix with a little bit of Foxtrot.
08:28I love the Samba.
08:33One of my best moves is the Showa.
08:37Woof.
08:38Woof.
08:39The Showa is the main Samba action.
08:43We're going to really guide the movement with the bounce action.
08:48I think Showa, not Shampoo.
08:49I'm really looking forward to the Paso Doble.
08:56There seems to be a lot of serious faces.
08:58Three.
09:00Five.
09:00Which is not me.
09:01Paso Doble is quite difficult dance because it's all about the shapes and positions, so
09:07we need to have that breath in the body.
09:10Two, three.
09:11Close.
09:11But it does seem like you can do a bit of stomping.
09:13I'm quite in for doing the stomping.
09:15One, two.
09:15I'm so looking forward to the Salsa.
09:20It's a bit of me, but at the same time, I've got a lot to learn.
09:25Timing is essential in all the dances, but especially in the Salsa, as it's so quick.
09:30There's an essence of calm and cool, but there's a lot of footwork.
09:34Make sure you don't take it back.
09:35Okay.
09:36I'm like a frantic chicken, so I need to be more like a cool duck on water.
09:40That was really good.
09:41This week, we're dancing the American Smooths.
09:47Those benches are concerning me.
09:50I've just got a feeling I'm just going to completely miss it.
09:53We are running around.
09:55We're jumping, lifting, dancing, foxtrot, everything happening at the same time.
09:59It's quite challenging for Amber.
10:00I thought it was going to be an easier week.
10:03No.
10:03Right, next up, this angel of the north took us on a romantic foxtrot through the streets of Newcastle.
10:14And with glowing comments from the judges, those nerves are fading and the confidence is growing.
10:18About time.
10:19You dance with an earthy elegance and realness.
10:27I thought it was really charming.
10:29The problem you have is that it's too close.
10:32So I get a little nervous.
10:34You're about to go wrong.
10:35There are shades in this of really great frame.
10:39There's something very special about you.
10:41I'm very excited as to where it's going to go.
10:43It's Rikki.
10:46Hi.
10:48Rikki, you were absolutely beaming after your performance.
10:51Tess even got a hug.
10:53Everybody was getting cuddled.
10:55How were you feeling about Saturday night?
10:57Do you know what?
10:58I was really nervous, wasn't I?
11:00I'm sure you're all getting sick to the back teeth of here and that.
11:03But I was.
11:04I was nervous.
11:06I just wanted to do it justice with it being that beautiful song by Sam Fender.
11:10It being the gorgeous town bridge in the background.
11:12One of Kai's favourite dancers.
11:14And I did sort of feel the pressure.
11:16But, you know, I think we did okay.
11:19Yes.
11:19I was really pleased and we got some lovely comments.
11:22So, yeah, I felt like we, it was a bit of a success.
11:25Yeah, I mean, a bit of a success.
11:27It went very well.
11:28You mentioned that the Foxtrot is one of Kai's favourite dancers.
11:31Yeah.
11:32So you had a feeling, though, that Vicky was going to shine in Ballroom.
11:35So how did she live up to your expectations?
11:37Well, I think as professionals, you can kind of feel very, very early on
11:40whether they're going to be good or great or not great at certain things.
11:45And I think when I saw Vicky do Ballroom, especially the feet and the legs,
11:48because that's obviously where it starts, right?
11:50And then we sort of worked our way up towards the frame.
11:52And obviously the judges said they want a little bit more, which we will work on.
11:55But I just have this gut feeling that I think she's going to be a bit of a Ballroom girl.
11:58And I think one of them said that you might even be a Ballroom queen.
12:02So we're on to a good start.
12:03High praise.
12:04The hard work definitely paid off, even if you did have moments like these.
12:09Let's take a look.
12:12What is going on here?
12:15What is happening?
12:17Honestly, Fleur, you've done us this.
12:19The facial expression is the best thing.
12:22I am.
12:23Like, obviously I am no stranger to reality TV.
12:27Like, I've done MasterChef and The Jungle, all these different things.
12:32I have never worked harder than I am working here.
12:35And that's not just me.
12:36Like, I know all the dancers are working as hard as they can,
12:39trying to put on the best performance and be the best, bright, shiny version of themselves.
12:44But, yeah, in that moment there, I think I was just thinking,
12:46I want to go home, cry in the bath and ring me mum.
12:49And maybe to have a sausage roll as well.
12:51Yeah, yeah, sausage roll.
12:52You need that sustenance.
12:54And Kai, Shirley addressed you directly in the comments
12:57and said that Vicky could actually, probably, maybe, possibly go all the way.
13:02What did you make of that feedback?
13:04That's a good impression.
13:05It's a very good impression.
13:06It's a very good impression.
13:07She said those things.
13:08And listen, it's lovely to hear those things,
13:10but obviously there was some critique in there which was important,
13:13which was not to play it safe with Vicky,
13:15not go at Vicky's pace where she comes up to mine.
13:19And I think that's obviously part of the journey of Strictly
13:22is you are learning as you go.
13:24And it was our first Boreham dance.
13:25And I know when we get another one,
13:26hopefully if we'll be here for a few more weeks,
13:27if we can do another one,
13:30that Vicky will be able to keep up with me
13:31and I'll be able to push her a little bit more.
13:33But coming this week,
13:34I think this is the perfect bounce back dance to get to do that.
13:37I think so.
13:37The emotions and the excitement were really high
13:40when Craig scored you a six.
13:42And your reactions really said it all.
13:44Check this out.
13:45Craig Revelhall, six.
13:47Your face.
13:52I mean, you just weren't expecting that.
13:54Why were you so surprised?
13:55I didn't know Craig's paddles went up that high.
13:59I thought he had stopped at about a three or a four,
14:02so I was just shocked he had paddles higher than a five.
14:05I know he's a tough cookie and he's hard to please.
14:09And I obviously, we're all working dead hard to try
14:12and get those higher scores and things like that,
14:14but I didn't think I'd say a six off him for a while.
14:17Like, so I was waiting to see me face.
14:20I was really shocked.
14:21Six in week two.
14:22Honestly, you've done so well.
14:23Moving on to this week, you'll be dancing a Charleston to this.
14:27A little party never killed nobody.
14:31Strictly's tribute to the Great Gatsby.
14:34Come on.
14:34We are going from Newcastle to New York.
14:37How has it been, like, channeling all the glitz
14:39and the glamour of the Roaring Twenties?
14:41Having a little holiday, aren't we?
14:43Yeah.
14:43So I...
14:45Right, so the Roaring Twenties, the Great Gatsby,
14:47the scene in particular...
14:48This is from today, look at you!
14:49About an hour ago.
14:51Go scrub up, all right, don't wear!
14:54Our make-up team have done a fantastic job.
14:56Oh, God, it's going to be grafting away with us.
15:00No, so we...
15:01Obviously, the scene that we're doing is, like,
15:02this really famous party scene from the Gatsby
15:04and everybody's dancing, drinking, the champagne's flowing,
15:09they're letting their hair down, they're having a good time.
15:11I'm sorry, Fleur, but all of that's a bit of me.
15:15Like, I don't even have to act, I'm just, like, just doing me.
15:18You're in your comfort zone when it comes to that.
15:20And you're working with Luke Miller and Grace Chin Kuei on this, Kai.
15:24So what's it been like collaborating with them?
15:26It's been brilliant.
15:27These guys, well, Luke, actually, I've known him since I was 10 years old.
15:29We used to compete against each other back in the competition world
15:32where all of us ballroom dancers come from
15:33and Grace I've known for years.
15:34So it's really nice to get to work with them
15:36and we've collaborated and put together, I think,
15:39a really nice routine that's going to suit Vic
15:41down to the ground this week.
15:42And it's going to, like Vic said, it's going to feel like a party out there.
15:45And as I said before, it's going to feel like a good bounce-back dance
15:48for you from last week.
15:49Not that it was a setback, but it's one that we can take
15:51the judges' critique on and put it into this dance
15:53and just kind of let loose and have a bit of fun.
15:55We cannot wait to see what you, Luke Miller and Grace Chinquay White
15:59have put together.
16:00And I can't wait to see you partying hard.
16:02All the best for Saturday.
16:03It's Vicky and Kai.
16:06Yes.
16:07Actually, Vicky, don't go anywhere
16:09as we've got Strictly's very own fairy godmother
16:12and with the flick of her magic wand.
16:15She's here to reveal some of the outfits from this weekend,
16:17including yours.
16:18It's Vicky Gale!
16:35All right, let's dive straight in with sketch number one.
16:39Oh, here we are.
16:40This is so cool.
16:40Here we go.
16:41So it's Diane's waltz dress.
16:44She'll be dancing as Princess Fiona from Shrek.
16:46So talk me through this outfit from head to toe.
16:48So movie week, you know how it goes.
16:50We've got the character and we have to try
16:51and make the dress fit to the waltz.
16:53So we've got a coarser detail, medieval.
16:55I feel like I'm doing it fast track.
16:58And we will be an emerald green.
17:00It will be lined with a brighter green
17:02and then we'll have lots of gold detail.
17:05Because it's for the waltz,
17:06we want to have a certain amount of skirt
17:07but still keep in line with Shrek.
17:09So that's kind of what's going to happen.
17:11I love it.
17:11Very glamorous.
17:13OK, let's move on to sketch number two.
17:15This is Ross's outfit for the Paso Doble.
17:18Now, we know they're going to be puppets.
17:20Yes.
17:20So are you leaning into that puppet theme?
17:23Trying to.
17:23Within the outfit?
17:24We're having fun, aren't we?
17:25And Thunderbirds, I'm old enough
17:27to have been able to watch quite a lot of it.
17:30So to try and get that doll-like feel.
17:32It's Paso Doble.
17:33They still want to look nice and clean.
17:35But we're using neoprene.
17:36And obviously we've got a little bit of Strictly Gitter in there.
17:39So we're going to have fun with it.
17:40The girls have been working on it today.
17:43T and Lucy were making the hat, I think, when I came out.
17:46So everybody's having fun whilst doing movie week.
17:49I love that you let us into your workshop
17:51and see all the sketches as well.
17:52It's very, very cool.
17:54Let's head over to the mannequins
17:55and take a look at the first one.
17:59Are we going?
17:59Let's reveal.
18:01Ooh.
18:01Well done.
18:02This is Valvinda's outfit for the Foxtrot.
18:05What was the inspiration behind this one?
18:06Well, we've got the Fred and Ginger feel to it and that era,
18:10but obviously it hasn't been fitted yet.
18:12So I'm just trying to give you an insight
18:13to what will eventually be on it.
18:15So there's an Art Deco feel with the trim.
18:17May not be quite as full as this
18:19once we've fitted Valvinda tomorrow.
18:21It might be a little bit flatter over the shoulder line.
18:24But we will build in cream into the gold beading.
18:28And then on the bodice, we've got transmission over a peach
18:31and that will then transfer into the skirt.
18:33So we're leaving it open just so that we can fit in the morning,
18:36but you'll see all of the elements.
18:37How many crystals do you think you've actually used on this?
18:39This one, not too many.
18:41Probably about 2,000 within that bit.
18:43I love how to you that's not too many.
18:452,000 in one section.
18:46Alicia, who does it, I was like, that's a lot,
18:48but she's very fast.
18:49That is a lot.
18:49Yeah.
18:50OK, let's move over to mannequin number two.
18:53But before we do, let's bring over our other Vicky.
18:57Two joddy Vickys, aren't you?
18:58I know, this is so cool.
19:00Are you excited to see your outfit, Vicky?
19:01I am buzzing like an old fridge.
19:03You have not let me down so far, babes.
19:06Everybody's been seeing me outfits have been fab,
19:07so I'm dead excited.
19:08I can't wait to see your face.
19:09All right, let's take a look.
19:11Whoa!
19:14Wow.
19:15Get close to it, Vicky, so you can touch it.
19:18You can feel it.
19:19You have such a laugh when Vicky comes into the head.
19:21Look at the intricate beanie.
19:23Can I go off?
19:24This is your frame.
19:24This is yours.
19:25Oh, it's so pretty.
19:26You've smashed this, mate.
19:27Last week when we started, it was in a leotard shape,
19:30so we've got a skirt this week.
19:31Yeah, I went to try it on last week, Fleur,
19:33and it was just like a little pair of nicks,
19:35and I thought, that's not very big, but you see,
19:37you're going to have to put me in something more, lass.
19:39It's so funny how you see how Vicky and the team
19:42just build on it, like, as the days go on.
19:44How did you work on this beading detail?
19:46This is amazing.
19:47This and this detail was done yesterday.
19:49We'll hopefully put more beading,
19:52and more of these strings will fall into the skirt.
19:53But once Vicky's tried it on in the morning,
19:55and we work out which pitch point you all know,
19:58how it goes, it's kind of, you know,
19:59is it going to be up, is it going to be down?
20:01And then we'll cut into the skirt hem, and then...
20:04Get a bit of leg.
20:05Get a bit of leg.
20:05Get a bit of leg, why not?
20:07Check the director's tape,
20:08see, keep looking out for a knicker action, so...
20:11I love it.
20:11Vicky's actually treating this like a night out.
20:13She's like, yeah, get the leg out.
20:14Oh, yes, I can dance, get on the dance floor.
20:16That's it.
20:17This is beautiful.
20:18What do you think?
20:19Oh, I cannot wait to wear it, Vicky.
20:20Has Kai got something similar?
20:21Well, I went for the peppermint.
20:24Not to flowers.
20:26Lots of flowers and peppermint.
20:28We cannot wait to see your team's iconic looks for movie week.
20:33Give it up for the incredible Vicky Gill.
20:39Now, the Emerald City may be far away,
20:42but the magic of Wicked is coming to Strictly.
20:44Let's take an exclusive look at how our pros
20:46will be working their spells on the dance floor.
20:48Get ready for pure magic
20:52with this week's group number
20:54inspired by the new Wicked For Good movie.
20:59I didn't want to single out one person to be Elphaba,
21:02and so I thought it might be a really nice take
21:04if every single girl and every single guy
21:06got to play Elphaba and Fiero.
21:07This routine is certainly driven
21:11by the story of this forbidden love
21:14and two characters that are expressing that love
21:17for each other for the very first time.
21:21There's a section at the end
21:23where all of us together
21:25are performing quite a big lift sequence.
21:29For us to get it together is very difficult.
21:36The costumes are bigger, greener,
21:40and the storytelling
21:42is what's going to keep you
21:44on the edge of your seats.
21:45I can't wait to see that.
21:51Now, picture this.
21:53It's Saturday night.
21:54The air was thick with drama, passion,
21:57and in a bar made for tango,
21:58they dared to jive.
22:00The judges looked on,
22:01a smolder,
22:02a stare,
22:03they...
22:03Ali Ash?
22:06That's not how we rehearsed.
22:10Let's just take a look.
22:11For a beginner
22:16that's never done jive before,
22:17you actually had quite a good knee bounce.
22:20Your standing foot was pretty placed
22:22on the floor,
22:23but the free leg was working beautifully,
22:26so you're halfway there.
22:27But you kept it completely
22:28and deliciously compact.
22:31Your personality and comic timing
22:32is exquisite.
22:34Tess!
22:37Tess!
22:38It's Chris and Ali Ash!
22:40Hello!
22:40Now, Chris,
22:42Lavoie opened the show
22:43on Saturday night
22:45after the little tango mix-up
22:46and pulled off that amazing jive.
22:48What were your thoughts
22:49on the performance?
22:50Well, I mean,
22:51I think we all saw
22:52how it went for her, really.
22:53I mean, she...
22:54She thought it was a travesty.
22:56She was expecting tens
22:57across the board
22:58from the judges.
22:59She thought she gave her all.
23:00But I think when we watched it back,
23:01we all saw the leg
23:02that went in the air.
23:03Ali Ash went down
23:04in the press-up.
23:04Her leg didn't follow.
23:06She looked like a dog
23:06peeing against a lamppost.
23:08It wasn't a glamorous moment
23:09for her, really.
23:09It wasn't so much going on.
23:11It wasn't the highlight
23:12of her career.
23:13Well, Ali Ash,
23:14you know it's not easy
23:15opening a show,
23:16especially the first week
23:17facing Elimination.
23:19How happy were you
23:20with the performance?
23:21I mean,
23:21I was absolutely ecstatic
23:23with the whole performance.
23:25Impressive jive
23:26accordingly
23:27to the judges.
23:28I like that one.
23:30It was difficult
23:34It's difficult
23:35to open a show,
23:36especially because
23:37you know it's the first time
23:39people vote as well,
23:41but especially
23:42with a dance like that,
23:43it has so many steps.
23:44And, you know,
23:45you kind of show starts
23:47and you have to be ready to go.
23:49So we were literally
23:49like staying warm
23:50for pretty much
23:51the whole day.
23:52Like you couldn't have
23:53a moment to kind of
23:54let your legs cool down
23:55and then go onto the floor
23:57and do the jive
23:58with sort of like,
23:58you know,
23:59not being warm for it.
24:00So you're just stretching
24:01all over the place?
24:01Basically.
24:03And that's just the accordion.
24:05That's just the accordion.
24:07Now, Chris,
24:07you explained in week one
24:09that Chris learns the dance
24:10and then La Voix performs it.
24:12So what would you say
24:13is the main difference
24:14between Chris and La Voix
24:15when it comes to
24:15that performance and character?
24:17Well, I mean,
24:17first of all,
24:17you've managed to finish
24:18your question, Fleur,
24:19so that's probably
24:19the main difference
24:20between me and La Voix.
24:22She would be all over you
24:23by now,
24:24wearing beige again
24:25the second time.
24:28So the difference is
24:30I am genuinely,
24:32I'm just a normal person.
24:34I'm here, you know,
24:35and I'm a human.
24:36I like my mix
24:37of crazy moments
24:38and nice moments
24:39and I think
24:40I can handle that.
24:41She's just one energy, really.
24:43It's all about her,
24:44let's face it.
24:44It's all about her.
24:45It's all about her.
24:46I think La Voix
24:47is just excellence, isn't it?
24:48I think she thinks
24:48she's saving strictly
24:50and she doesn't realise
24:51that actually
24:52she needs to work
24:53a little bit harder.
24:54Aliash,
24:55what is it like for you, though,
24:56going from the training room
24:57with Chris
24:58and then performing
24:59with La Voix
25:00on Friday and Saturday?
25:01Do you know what?
25:02I don't think
25:02there's that much
25:04of a difference for me
25:05because Chris and I
25:06in rehearsals,
25:07it's difficult
25:08to sort of stay
25:10with a straight face
25:11for more than
25:11about five seconds.
25:13So what you get
25:14on a Saturday
25:14and Sunday
25:15with La Voix
25:16it's exactly what
25:17I kind of get
25:17with Chris in rehearsals.
25:19I mean,
25:20especially like going
25:21for the first
25:21and the second
25:22that is so character-driven.
25:24It was difficult
25:25to kind of teach
25:26and learn something
25:27in between
25:28because we kind of,
25:28you know,
25:29this is serious now,
25:30but it only lasts
25:31for about...
25:32It's serious,
25:34it's serious,
25:35that's it.
25:35But?
25:37And your brother
25:38and nephew
25:38were in the audience.
25:39Oh, yeah.
25:40That meant so much.
25:41I didn't realise
25:42it's the first time
25:42they've ever sort of
25:43experienced any sort
25:44of TV show filming
25:45and so they loved it
25:46and they were just,
25:47you know,
25:47in awe with all the glitter
25:48and the...
25:49You look so similar.
25:51I'm like,
25:51oh, yeah, look.
25:52Wow,
25:52you really resemble
25:53your brother so much.
25:54They absolutely loved it
25:55and you sent me
25:55the most amazing messages
25:56about train hard
25:58but perform easy,
25:59like relax.
26:00Oh, I like that.
26:00when I was like,
26:01oh, look at this.
26:03No,
26:03but he's giving me advice
26:04more than I do.
26:06Well, it's true
26:06because I think
26:06when the energy
26:07of La Voix kicks in
26:08on the weekend,
26:09sometimes the technique
26:10goes out the window
26:11so to pull the balance
26:12in is key.
26:13Get the balance.
26:13The journey,
26:13like you said.
26:14The journey.
26:15Well, moving on
26:16to this week,
26:17you're going to be
26:17slowing it right down
26:18and doing a waltz
26:19to a version of this.
26:22Feed the birds,
26:24top them to the back.
26:26Last week,
26:26the judges' comments
26:27were very technique-driven.
26:29How focused are you
26:30making sure
26:30that the technique
26:31is at the forefront
26:32in training?
26:33We literally
26:33haven't done anything
26:34else this week.
26:35We haven't even,
26:37all we have done
26:37is just pure technique.
26:39As you can see
26:39in the video playing
26:40on the screen.
26:41Oh, look,
26:42this is from...
26:42No, this is not.
26:42This is Monday.
26:43This is literally first.
26:44Oh, yeah,
26:44this is the first time
26:45you showed me the steps.
26:46First run I showed you.
26:47Oh, yeah.
26:47Yeah, look at that.
26:49Do you know what?
26:49I think that
26:50because the first two numbers
26:51were so driven by character,
26:53I felt like
26:53it's the beautiful time.
26:55The song is stunning.
26:56Oh, beautiful.
26:56And then to just kind of
26:58go out there
26:59and perform
26:59a beautiful waltz,
27:01I think it's going to be
27:02a sort of a big
27:03sort of change
27:04for Lavoie
27:05to kind of go
27:06from the character-driven
27:07dances
27:08into just, you know,
27:09a lot of focus
27:10onto the technique.
27:10And it's a beautiful,
27:11because I think
27:12it's a film full of chaos
27:13and it's such a beautiful moment
27:15within that film.
27:16A bit like me,
27:17a bit slightly chaotic,
27:17but underneath
27:18there is a real person
27:20with feelings and a heart
27:21and really wanting
27:22to take strictly seriously
27:23and learn the dances.
27:24And I think
27:24if I can show that this week,
27:26in that movie,
27:27the bird woman
27:28is standing for everyone.
27:30All the people
27:30that have been slightly neglected,
27:31this underdog,
27:32the person that gets
27:33a bit forgotten.
27:34So if I can tune
27:34into that this week.
27:36So Lavoie will be
27:36taking on the pigeon lady.
27:38How do you think
27:38she's getting into character?
27:40The pigeon lady?
27:41Well,
27:43we don't know
27:43how to describe
27:44does that really?
27:45But we will,
27:46do you know what,
27:46we've,
27:47we fed birds
27:49in the park.
27:50Okay.
27:51We went,
27:51we did eat,
27:52we had fried chicken
27:53for lunch.
27:53I mean,
27:53that's very helpful.
27:54That's not us.
27:55That's not us.
27:55Eating the birds.
27:56Someone next to us
27:57was doing that
27:58and he wasn't.
27:58That's true.
27:59But you helped me this week
28:00with the pigeon message.
28:01Massively, yes.
28:02I think it's important
28:03to get into character.
28:05Yeah.
28:05Speaking of,
28:06can you tell us,
28:07are you playing the pigeon?
28:09Aliash?
28:09Well,
28:10you know,
28:10the last thing
28:11I ever want to do
28:12on Strictly
28:12is to pull focus,
28:14isn't it?
28:14And I have never,
28:16I would never ever do that.
28:17No.
28:18But I had to,
28:19at some point,
28:20sort of try that.
28:22My idea was to be
28:23fully a pigeon
28:24to sort of really embrace that.
28:26And we really workshopped you today
28:27with a pigeon wrap,
28:29didn't we?
28:29Correct.
28:29I don't mean a wrap
28:30as in you eat.
28:30No.
28:31No, I mean as in a,
28:32like a wrap.
28:32A wrap.
28:33We were like speaking of wrap.
28:34Peck, peck, peck, peck,
28:35boom.
28:35Correct.
28:36Yeah.
28:36Whoa.
28:37See?
28:37Well, on that note,
28:38I'm going to have to wrap you up.
28:39Good luck of the weekend.
28:40It's Chris and Aliash.
28:43That's it for tonight.
28:44Jeanette will be back tomorrow
28:45with Amber and Nikita
28:46and Jimmy and Lauren.
28:47Plus the Friday panel
28:48will be here
28:48to help count down
28:49into movie week.
28:51Have a great night.
28:59In the darkest night
