00:00Welcome to another episode of my ongoing dental journey which is never going to end.
00:07I'm hoping this is the final stop though in my quest to get the malocclusion fix basically.
00:13Dr David Hill at Teeth on Ferry recommended this place.
00:17He said it comes, he highly recommended it basically.
00:20It's probably the cheapest on the coast.
00:22Might be a little bit of a sort of factory outlet type place for envisor liners and metal braces
00:28which is fine because budget is a real consideration for me at the moment
00:32and we've got some noisy crows behind us.
00:34They're probably going to swoop me in a minute.
00:37But basically getting your malocclusion fixed will definitely have health benefits
00:42because malocclusion causes difficulty swallowing, difficulty chewing
00:46and you can do more grinding at night and that can lead to headaches and all sorts of things.
00:53So getting it fixed is good.
00:55I'm a bit disappointed that I'm not going down the envisor line track which is what I was hoping
01:02but I'm also really grateful to Dr David Hill for recommending them saying no.
01:09For a jaw that's not growing, metal braces are the best option
01:13and those of you that follow this channel probably know that Luke, my hubby, is a medical doctor.
01:18He did his own research too about straightening your teeth with envisor line or metal braces
01:25and he also said all the research seems to point to the fact that for a jaw that's finished growing
01:31which mine definitely has, metal braces are the way to go
01:34which wasn't happy, really happy news for me
01:37because I don't know how I'm going to feel about having metal braces in my mouth
01:41and what that's going to feel like.
01:42So I have been arming and arming to be honest quite a bit about whether to actually go through with it or not
01:48but I'm here now so I'm going to go in and I'm going to see what they have to say.
01:53They'll be taking their own scans and probably an x-ray
01:56and importantly as well giving me their price point as to how much this is all going to cost.
02:02It is a commitment if you do commit to getting the metal braces, it's months I guess
02:08and then for the rest of your life you have to have nightly retainers to sort of keep that shape
02:12but I am really sick of grinding just on these back teeth.
02:16There's probably about four teeth on each side that I do all my chewing on
02:20and it can be a bit painful sometimes.
02:23They're right worn down.
02:25These at the front haven't worn down at all because I'm not using them
02:28so I do think that I will probably go through with it but let's go inside
02:32and let's see what they have to say.
02:34So I've just gone to the front desk.
02:49So the first appointment is complimentary, I think it's under Medicare
02:52and I'm going to be seeing a patient coordinator who's going to then start examining what's going on there
02:59and go from there and I'm a bit nervous.
03:04So for the x-ray, I have to take piercings out, they've just told me.
03:10So hopefully I don't lose these earrings.
03:16I've actually lost a really good pair of earrings at Gold Coast University Hospital after my seizure.
03:21Really nice gold earrings.
03:24I'll have to try and look after these.
03:26I have to take my necklace off too.
03:34All righty.
03:46First photo is no smiling.
03:49Just going to do that.
03:50A bit cheesy smile for me.
03:52Perfect.
03:52Yeah, perfect.
03:54Now no smiling there.
03:56Perfect.
03:56Would you like to turn and face this way for me?
03:59Perfect.
04:00Now a big cheesy smile there.
04:02Perfect, thank you for that.
04:04All right, you can take your seat there.
04:06I like mug shots.
04:07Yeah, they're definitely like mug shot photos. It's so funny.
04:13So I was told this x-ray isn't too strong.
04:16No, no, no, no. So it's a digital x-ray, so there's barely any radiation.
04:20I know.
04:21So it's very good like that.
04:22Because I've been radiated so many times.
04:25Yeah.
04:26I've had a CT recently.
04:27Okay.
04:28Yeah, okay.
04:29All right.
04:30Look, you're going to pop in a warm mirror and it's going to the backs of your teeth, okay?
04:35So you can pop your back there for me.
04:37Oh, so you're going to put a mirror in my mouth?
04:38Yeah.
04:39Oh, wow, okay.
04:46Pop in with this.
04:47Now, would you like Tim, would you like to hold this up to the top?
04:50Perfect, thank you.
04:51All right, yeah.
04:52So it's just a bit warm and it's going to the backs of your teeth.
04:55Is that okay?
04:56Hang on.
04:57How's this for me?
04:59Yeah.
05:00It just goes like that.
05:01I hope you open up nice and wide for me.
05:09Would you like to take that out, flip it around, put it at the bottom?
05:12Yeah, that's great.
05:13I'm just going to help you with all that here if that's okay.
05:19I'm just going to do that kind of like that if that's all good.
05:22I'm going to take that, okay?
05:24Was that it?
05:25Was that the x-ray?
05:26No, no, no.
05:27That's just photos.
05:28Sorry.
05:29All right.
05:30Pop in with some stretchy things, okay?
05:31They don't hurt at all but they do stretch.
05:32How's it?
05:33How's it going?
05:34Bite together back for me.
05:35We'll try to hold on to these and pull them if that's okay.
05:36I can help you there and do that.
05:37Perfect.
05:38Ah, this is why I hate the dentist.
05:41Right, I'm just going to see if you can pull it, like that.
05:44Is that okay?
05:45Yeah.
05:46I'm just going to do that if that's all good.
05:48Try to bite together for me.
05:49Start with this.
05:51I'm just going to do that if I do it.
05:54I'm going to.
05:55I'm just going to do that if that's all good.
05:59All right.
06:00Bite together for me.
06:01Okay.
06:02How's it going?
06:03I'm gonna hold on to this side okay I'd like you to loosen that side for me and
06:16back together. I'll hold on to this side. Thank you so much. Quickly pull in here, I'm so sorry.
06:24One more photo. Would you like to hold on to this side for me? Very large photo over here.
06:31Would you like to loosen that side all the way? I'm just gonna quickly pull here, light together for me.
06:38Perfect, sorry. Quickly go in there. Perfect, you did great. Thank you so much.
06:45That is so awful. Why I think it's a dentist. It's all more uncomfortable, isn't it?
06:56You did great. Thank you.
06:59Well, now we're gonna go take that extra, okay? Perfect, thank you so much.
07:04Sorry. I cannot leave my bag there.
07:06You can have it with you if you like. Thank you.
07:09Do you have any earrings, piercings or jewellery at all?
07:12I've taken them off, so I did have two gold earrings and a necklace but they're off.
07:17Oh, does this lower on me? Oh, I had that at ClearSmiles and I actually started getting scared.
07:22Really? Yes, because the machine, I felt, what if it doesn't stop?
07:26No, no, no, no, no.
07:27But that's totally I got scared.
07:29So I just do it like that and then I go up like that, okay?
07:31But if anything feels weird, let me know, okay?
07:33Yeah, but it is gonna lower down on me.
07:35Just a tiny bit, but if you'd like.
07:37That's a really scary feeling.
07:39Okay, well I'm gonna get you to go behind that and face it because they're gonna go in your ears, okay?
07:44Oh, really?
07:45Yeah, they're just gonna sit there, nothing at all is gonna hurt.
07:48If anything feels weird, let me know, okay?
07:49Okay, well it all feels weird already, but so it's not gonna come down too much on my head.
07:55No, no, no, no, no.
07:56Because I wanted ClearSmiles, I was sitting under this machine and I had, and it just kept coming down and down and down.
08:01I know this is a bit scary.
08:03I'm just going to sit forward for me.
08:05Sorry, I'm just going to get a bit more forward there.
08:08Perfect.
08:09So these, you feel right there?
08:11Yeah.
08:12Like these, and they're gonna go in your ears, okay?
08:14That's gonna sit at the bridge of your nose.
08:15Oh, God.
08:16Get a bit more forward there for me.
08:18Awww.
08:19Yeah, perfect.
08:21I knew I shouldn't have gotten over there this morning.
08:26Sorry, I'm just going to take that.
08:27Perfect.
08:28That doesn't hurt, that feels fine?
08:29Well, fine.
08:30Fine?
08:31Yeah, I can do it.
08:32Is it an overstatement?
08:33No.
08:34Alright, I'm just going to pop that there.
08:36Would you like to pop your chin down just a tiny bit?
08:39So kind of like, yeah, perfect.
08:41It goes for, I think, about 10 seconds, so it's very fast.
08:44Okay.
08:45Do you mind lifting your chin up just a tiny bit?
08:46Yeah.
08:47That's perfect.
08:48I've seen Terminator 2.
08:50Oh, I don't see that.
08:51Oh, that's true.
08:52Alright, well, all I want you to do is there's going to be a sign behind the door there.
08:55I want you to just look straight ahead, bite down at the backs of your teeth for me.
09:00Keep biting, keep putting pressure.
09:02Stay as still as you can.
09:03We're going to be out here, okay?
09:04I love it.
09:05It was good that it didn't start lowering on me.
09:07That was really horrible.
09:08Yeah, no, it wasn't lower at all.
09:09Alright, well, perfect.
09:10Well, that's it, okay?
09:11You guys are all good to take your seat in the waiting room.
09:14AJ will be with you very soon for the concert, okay?
09:17Thank you very much.
09:18Perfect.
09:19Thank you, Jamie.
09:20It wasn't too bad.
09:24That wasn't too bad.
09:26Like, at ClearSmiles, the machine just came right down onto my head and it just felt ahhh.
09:32But that, I was a bit more scared beforehand than I should have been.
09:37That really wasn't too bad.
09:38But anyway, I'm glad that's done.
09:40With those metal things pulling back, oh, that's why I hate me and the dentist.
09:44Well, as soon as they start working on your mouth, everything's uncomfortable.
09:48Everything pulls, tugs, and sometimes I even get little cuts on the side of my lips, you
09:53know, and then it's uncomfortable for ages, but I just stop whinging.
09:57So, after the x-ray, I was then brought in to see the patient coordinator who sat down
10:06with me and looked at the x-rays.
10:08So, this may or may not be my final stop.
10:12Like, I couldn't believe it.
10:14He pulled up my x-rays and basically, I don't have an answer yet.
10:18He said that they treat mild to moderate cases of malocclusion.
10:23And so, after looking at what I've got going on, like you said, mine's a little bit more
10:27of a complex case because I have worn down the teeth a lot.
10:30I've got a lot of enamel that's been worn because of my habit of having lemon in my tea,
10:36even though I drink my tea with a straw, which is what dentists have said.
10:40But basically, I do have sort of other issues going on because of habits that I do have,
10:46health habits, you know, like, and look, I did know that.
10:50I do know I've got enamel worn off and I do know that because I've been chewing mainly
10:54on these back teeth here, I've got a lot of sort of flattening of those teeth.
10:58So, they've basically been worn away and I did know that.
11:01So, that was sort of, yeah, I just sat there and I said, oh, please help me here
11:08because I've been to so many places.
11:09But look, they're going to, he's going to sit down with the two,
11:12I think there's two dentists here as well.
11:14They were treating other people at the time, so they're going to have a meeting and just,
11:18or at their meeting I think they go through all the patient cases that have come in.
11:22And he said he actually turns away several people a day who come here
11:26because their cases are too complex.
11:28So, I didn't realise that.
11:29I didn't realise that they treat only mild to moderate cases.
11:32So, anyway, he did say that he'd discuss it with the dentists
11:35and they would get back to me probably in a week.
11:38So, who knows where I'll end up like this.
11:41So, this may not be the final stop to getting my bite fixed.
11:45I'm sort of hoping it will be, but who knows.
11:48But anyway, I told you at the beginning, didn't I?
11:50My dental journey will just keep going forever.
11:53So, stay tuned for the next episode.
11:56Stay tuned for the next episode.
