Sometimes a rainy afternoon in Surfers Paradise turns into a moment you’ll never forget. While I was walking home with my two children, the clouds broke and we were caught in a heavy downpour at a busy intersection. With no umbrella and no cover, we were struggling to get home when two strangers did something I will never forget.

They didn't just give us an umbrella; they gave us a reminder that the instinct to help one another is alive and well. The look in that woman’s eyes—full of care and friendship—moved me to tears because it felt like she truly saw us. 🥹❤️

This umbrella has become more than just an object in our home; it’s a symbol. It’s a reminder that kindness exists everywhere and that strangers truly are just friends we haven't met yet. 🤝🌍

If you are the couple who helped a mother and her children at the lights, please know how much that moment meant to us. Thank you. 🙏✨

00:00hi guys I wanted to jump on and share a really nice story with you so something
00:07happened to me a few days ago that I really do feel is worth sharing because
00:11it's something that I'm certainly never going to forget so it was a sort of a
00:17cloudy day and it was school pickup day so I had Spencer in the pram and we got
00:21on the tram we went into my daughter's school picked her up and as we were
00:25coming home the sky was getting darker and darker and sure enough when we got
00:30off the tram it started to rain and as we were coming down the road towards home
00:36it started to rain really heavily so of course I don't have an umbrella I'm stuck
00:42with two children no umbrella and a busy intersection as well so we're at the
00:49lights waiting for the lights to turn green which of course they're not it
00:52really was bucking down and um and I remember Amity was saying oh we're
00:57getting all wet and then I mean I'm vaguely realized that there were people around
01:01us as well like mostly with umbrellas but then all of a sudden two people I've
01:07never met before two really lovely people stepped step towards me holding an
01:14umbrella like the gentleman had an umbrella in his hand and he was giving it
01:20to me and of course your first reaction is like you know they did have another
01:24umbrella too so it was it was a it was a couple it was a gentleman and a lady
01:29with him and she was holding an umbrella but it wasn't up so they were sharing
01:33the same umbrella that he was about to give me and my your first instinct is oh
01:38we're right we're right you know but they they were quite insistent they said
01:42you know you sure you sure you don't want this umbrella and my kids are
01:46getting wet I'm getting wet and just something in me moved me to accept their
01:50gift and and so I took the umbrella and I said thank you so much and they was
01:58they were just so nice in that gesture and I could I could see the relief in my
02:03daughter's face because she had a bag on her back and not only did she have her
02:07backpack but then I was carrying as well a canvas bag that holds her iPad and
02:13some books and that canvas bag is like a tote bag isn't waterproof and even though
02:18I had the cover on the pram rain still getting into the pram and so I could see
02:22the relief in my daughter's face as well and I was just so moved and and I just I
02:28just said thank you so much and they were just really kind and we didn't
02:34exchange any more words than that because then the lights changed and they
02:38started to move off and the lady put up their umbrella that they were now going
02:42to share and and that's not the end of it she then looked back at me several
02:48times as they moved off because I was kind of just left standing there with this
02:53umbrella so if you haven't guessed yet it's actually this umbrella and and I was
02:58left standing here with this beautiful big umbrella my children now under shelter just
03:04sort of still a little bit flabbergasted that total strangers gave us an umbrella
03:08and knowing that I would probably never see them again in my life and and as I
03:13walked off the lady looked back at me I think three times and and each time our
03:20eyes met and and it was just the way she looked at me and that's probably what's
03:26going to stay with me I think forever it was such deep kindness in her eyes like it
03:32was just her eyes were kind of shining as she looked back at me like just shining
03:38with so much friendship and so much care and it was almost like I see you that that's how I
03:46felt
03:46that she was looking at me it was like I see you you know I know the struggle it was
03:55it was that I
03:57think it was the way she looked at me that just so kind you know it was like she
04:05really saw in that moment and really saw through right into me you know like almost
04:12like to say from heart to heart I see you I know how hard it is with kids and I'm
04:19happy to have helped you that was what her eyes were saying and um and you know my
04:27daughter too what an example for her and both of us kind of left standing there you
04:32know and and then we cross the road and and for about almost the whole way home
04:37then my daughter kept saying as well she kept looking at me and she's saying she
04:41kept saying that was really nice mom and I said yeah that was really nice and um
04:49it was it was just such a moment of kindness that I think we don't see enough
04:57of these days I think and we live here on the Gold Coast and the Gold Coast is a
05:04beautiful place and wherever you live in this world you find your people and I've
05:08certainly found my people here on the Gold Coast like really beautiful people we
05:13have here but there it's also a fast-paced city and so there's also a lot of
05:17stress there's also a lot of people that are rushing a lot and so you you do run
05:23into quite a lot of throughout your day-to-day like I joke to other locals
05:27I've nearly been run over at the pedestrian lights multiple times like if I
05:32don't catch a driver's eye now I don't dare go across the pedestrian lights
05:36because we do have quite a lot of drivers that are obviously under a lot of
05:40pressure themselves and and what have you so and you know a lot of time people are on
05:45their devices as well and so I think I'm not I don't know if we get that heart to
05:51heart connection as much as maybe we should and that was just a really good
05:56reminder how how you can touch someone else by a moment of real kindness and um
06:03and so this umbrella it's a it's a beautiful umbrella and it's in my as in
06:11our home now and it's certainly not an umbrella to me anymore I mean it's an
06:16umbrella that we will use like it's absolutely beautiful umbrella it's large
06:21enough for me when I take the kids out but it's more than an umbrella now for me
06:26like it's just become a symbol you know every time I look at this umbrella I'm
06:30reminded how much a moment of kindness can mean to somebody how much it meant to
06:35me in that moment it's become an inspiration that if I ever see someone in
06:41need and it's it's become a validation of something that I think I have always
06:48really known inside myself and that is that I do believe that inside every human
06:56is the instinct to help another human in need I really do believe that we have
07:02that instinct in us and so this umbrella has just become that symbol for me and
07:07that reminder that if you see someone else in need to give them a hand and and
07:13that kindness does exist kindness is in us and I think strangers are just friends
07:21we haven't met yet
