00:00hi guys in today's video we're going to show you how to make a delicious fruit
00:05salad so we've got a beautiful box of ingredients here and a cute little box
00:10of pears as well so in case you haven't guessed already pears is one of our
00:14ingredients so we've got pears there we've got we'll start with some of the
00:18more sort of solid basic ingredients so we're going to put some apples in our
00:22fruit salad so we've got some red ones and some green ones and the trick with
00:26apples in a fruit salad is don't peel them because the peel then gives you the
00:31color in the fruit salad so what we're going to do in ours is we're going to pop
00:34two red apples and two green apples strawberries in case you didn't see them
00:39already I pulled it out so we're going to pop some strawberries in our salad
00:44pineapple in our beautiful fruit salad who doesn't love pineapple in fruit salad
00:50and these are very special these are actually homegrown passion fruits
00:56so these are straight off the vine so we're going to put some passion fruit in
01:01our fruit salad we're going to put grapes in these are beautiful grapes we've got
01:06some green grapes and some purple grapes so we're going to pop those in oranges to
01:14give us our citrus and our color so we're going to pop some oranges in and we're going to pop
01:19a banana in
01:20so a banana I love a banana in fruit salad like I know there's always the thing oh it'll get
01:25brown but
01:26we've got a hack for that as well and we're going to put some kiwi fruit in so we'll pop
01:32our kiwi fruit there and this might look like it's cheating a little bit but there is a reason for
01:38this basically because obviously we're using all this really delicious fresh fruit that's going to
01:43be so good for us this is going to give the fruit salad it's just going to bring it all
01:48together
01:48and give it that delicious sort of sweet juice sort of juicy type flavor so this all of this is
01:57going
01:57to be so much better than just opening a tin of fruit salad but this is just going to give
02:02it that
02:02little bit of an extra wolf basically so it's going to be just that not much nicer with this tin
02:07not the whole tin but some of the tin in it now a really good hack for fruit salad is
02:13obviously
02:14apples and bananas can get brown so what you do you can use lemon or lime but basically you mix
02:21a
02:21little bit of lemon or lime juice with some honey and then once you've mixed up the fruit salad and
02:28it's all done in your bowl you put a little bit of that mixed citrus and honey juice over your
02:35fruit
02:35salad and that's going to just stop it from going brown so let's get started we're going to first
02:42chop up the apples
03:05okay so we've got our apple in our bowl so we're now going to put a beautiful pear in
03:10I like to do the hard fruits first whenever I'm doing our fruit salad so pear is absolutely delicious
03:18and obviously the ratio of fruits varies according to your taste like you can put less apple in more
03:25pear in you know or any of the fruits you can mix and match depending on your taste now with
03:33the grapes
03:34if you've got really big grapes you can chop them as well if you want to like if I chop
03:39these that would
03:40be about the size of them and these are lovely these are going to give our fruit salad that beautiful
03:44red
03:45color as will our strawberries
03:51these are lovely look they've got a beautiful bright color really nice dark red
03:56and same with the strawberries as to what size pieces you want to put in strawberries are very soft
04:03so I wouldn't go too small with the strawberries because they can break up quite easily
04:11okay well that's a delicious amount of strawberries that we've got in here
04:14so what I might do actually I'll do a kiwi fruit next I'll pop a kiwi fruit in and then
04:23maybe an orange
04:24and then we'll do the banana I'm going to sort of leave the banana till last um after the pineapple
04:30because the pineapple juice in itself can um I think help the banana a little bit too with the browning
04:53and kiwi fruits the same because it's quite soft you you probably don't want it too tiny pieces
05:00I'll probably leave it like this
05:07so they just look lovely there okay our bowl's getting beautiful and full and it just smells so
05:13nice and fresh so I'm going to put these two in now so I'm going to put some orange in
05:18and some
05:18pineapple and the passion fruit and then the banana so let's put some orange in next
05:31I don't usually put too much orange in actually into a fruit salad because it can be a little bit
05:38sort of tangy so we live in Queensland so we do get pineapples quite nice and fresh
05:51this one's got a little bit of brown on the side but that's fine because we can obviously avoid
05:57totally avoid that
06:01and again when it comes to um pineapple I'm really fussy like if I'm eating a pineapple I might eat
06:09a little bit of that middle but when it comes to a fruit salad I'll totally get rid of like
06:13the hard
06:13bits in the middle like this whole sort of chewy bit I'll pop that aside
06:35pineapple's a little bit like orange but I like overdoing pineapple in a fruit salad because even
06:41though it's sweet if you eat too much pineapple I don't know if anyone's eating too much pineapple
06:47but because I'll have a bit of an effect on your mouth and tongue
07:01this is delicious this is a homegrown passion fruit I'm just going to get a spoon and spoon this in
07:09oh
07:15oh
07:15oh that smells so good okay so last but not least we're going to put the banana in before we
07:22then sort
07:22of put this in to bring it all together so with the banana for a fruit salad I like actually
07:29having
07:29the circles of the banana so I just keep the circles nice I don't chop up the banana into little
07:36halves or quarters
07:39but we don't want any strings in our fruit salads I'll get rid of those
07:44and the good thing about a fruit salad oh the banana smells nice the good thing about a fruit salad
07:50is that everything's in season that you're putting in it as opposed to just having obviously a tinned fruit
07:56salad or packaged fruit and yeah that's obviously the the bonus always of making things fresh
08:05making things from scratch in your own kitchen and and look it's a little bit I think cooking is a
08:11little bit like gardening cooking ticks a lot of boxes for you like it's it's healthy for you I think
08:17it's really good for you to eat fresh food and it can be really soothing it can actually be a
08:23really good
08:23stress antidote if you're just chopping and stirring and and cooking and you know it just keeps you off
08:32devices off screens and yeah just kind of the tactile experience too of just handling food I think it's
08:40good for the soul as well now because our bowl so full basically you can use as much or as
08:45little
08:45of the tinned as you want we're not going to use a massive amount today we'll just actually i want
08:51to
08:51spoon the juice in because i can see tipping this tin will go everywhere and we don't want a lot
08:59of
08:59this we just want a little bit but this stewed fruit has sort of a a different sort of sweetness
09:07than the rest of the fruit salad so i think it's just going to be a really nice compliment there
09:11i think
09:12that's perfect all right we'll pop this here and now for the fun part we'll gently mix it all together
09:20you do want to be gentle though because we've got the beautiful banana that we don't want to crush
09:29and we do have quite a full bowl too okay last but not least we're going to be mixing up
09:35the honey
09:35and our citrus to stop the browning
09:47okay now we'll put some honey in i do like things to be pretty sweet so i'm going to put
09:52a little bit of a
09:53generous dollop in and i have learned from experience that if there's a little bit of extra honey in there
10:01the kids are more likely to eat it and honey is a beautiful natural ingredient itself and it actually
10:09the honey dissolves surprisingly well actually okay so we'll pour a little bit of this on
10:15i won't put too much i can smell the honey
10:20that's probably enough i think not too much and we'll give it one final little toss
10:27and the perfect thing to do with a fruit salad is you can have ice cream but personally i think
10:36the best thing to go with the fruit salad
10:44is cream is plain cream plain old cream and the reason is the cream is sort of just
10:51the cream isn't too busy in its flavors because the fruit salad is already quite a lot of flavors
10:56together and this this will come up really nice because i do know this combination of fruits so let's have
11:02a taste of our masterpiece
11:08okay let's pour a bit of cream on
11:15oh nice generous drizzle
11:21oh absolutely delicious
11:27and now by far and away the most satisfying thing about making up your own food
11:35is then enjoying it so we're gonna have a taste of this
11:39oh see the cream just the cream really is just the finishing touch it brings together everything
11:54oh
11:55oh that is good
11:59that is so delicious
12:02you first get a bit of a creamy mouthful of the cream
12:05but then you get the tartness of the passion fruit and the crunchiness of the apple and
12:11the sweetness of a red grape and strawberry and oh that is just perfect that is so good
12:21that is really good so this is a beautiful combination of fruits you can have as much or a
12:27little of any of the fruits as you as you prefer but now this is going to be fine i
12:33mean this is going
12:33to do me good because it's healthy and it's going to do the kids good because it's healthy and they're
12:38going to really enjoy eating this and you can eat as much of it as you want obviously as soon
12:43as it's
12:43freshly made or after an hour or so in the fridge but then this will be fine because we've put
12:49the honey
12:49and the citrus drizzle over it and we've got the orange as well this will be fine for the next
12:55morning
12:56easily for the next day i think you can easily have this in the fridge for for at least a
13:01day
13:02but it might not last so beware people might just eat it up on you
13:17oh that was a mouthful of pineapple pineapple in the cream
13:23perfect
13:31hmm
