A major cleanup effort underway in Oakland County, where tens of thousands of residents and businesses are affected by a massive water main break. WWJ's Tim Pamplin was on the scene.
Transcript
00:00The water continues to flow here along 14 Mile.
00:02The break occurred just around sunrise this morning here on 14 Mile, just west of M5.
00:07Gleewere here, they've got their pumps in place.
00:09They're pumping as rapidly as they can to get the water out of a massive hole,
00:13about 20 foot by 10 foot, that's opened up here on 14 Mile.
00:17They say once they can get that water pumped out of the system,
00:21get the dirt moved out of the way, look at what's going on beneath ground,
00:24that's when they'll be able to get a firmer idea on how long these repairs are going to take.
00:28But it doesn't appear they're going to be done very quickly,
00:31simply because the amount of water, just take a look at that,
00:33water still flowing at this hour, what is it, at the 2 o'clock hour, as they continue to pump.
00:38Here's Pete Froome from Gleewere.
00:39We're not talking hours here, we're talking days potentially.
00:41Yeah, so right now we're also trying to lay out that timeline in the schedule of how long it will take us,
00:46but our first major steps is getting this isolated so we can assess the pipe and the damage of what we have,
00:52and then we can go from there.
00:54Now Gleewere and the communities affected have issued the boil water,
00:56well look, you can see it on the map right there, take a pause, zoom in, see if you're in there.
01:00We'll have updates throughout the afternoon as repairs continue on this massive water main break along 14 mile and M5.
01:06Tim Pamplin, WWJ Newsradio 9.50.
