WWJ's Tim Pamplin reports from 7 Mile Rd. and Greenfield on Detroit's west side, where a single-story house exploded. No one was injured, but there's a lot of damage done.
Transcript
00:00A scene of absolute devastation here on the west side of Detroit.
00:03This is the 19,400 block of Fora, that seven-mile greenfield area.
00:07This house completely destroyed, debris strewn across the road on top of the neighboring houses.
00:12This is all pointing towards a gas leak.
00:14DTE were out here earlier in the day setting up the utilities for the homes, new owners.
00:19And as neighbor Andre Thomas points out, something strange was happening.
00:23And we looked at the meter because the meter was on his side of the driveway, right?
00:28He's like, we heard it ticking, like, man, gas is not supposed to tick, you know what I mean?
00:34He didn't have a jacket on, so he said he was cold.
00:37When he said he was cold, I walked away, he went in the house.
00:41I came and sat in my truck, and more than three minutes later, the house blew up.
00:45And we were just standing in the driveway.
00:47Yeah, so a very close call for Andre. Take a look at this car.
00:50This car was parked directly out front of the home, completely destroyed now.
00:54DTE again, swarming this area, trying to get an answer.
00:57As to what caused this house to explode on the west side.
01:00Tim Pamplin, WWJ Newsradio 950.
