20th September National Forecast presented by Tom Morgan.
Transcript
00:00Hello, good afternoon. It's been a wet September for many of us and there's further heavy rain
00:05through the course of Saturday. A weather warning for rain in place across many parts
00:09of Wales and northern England, so some travel disruption possible.
00:12Looking at the wider satellite view then, we can see this ribbon of cloud and that's
00:16associated with a weather front. And it's this weather front that's moving towards central
00:20parts of the UK on Saturday. So I am expecting some fairly heavy rain to develop across Wales
00:25and northern England, as I say. But it's not just there where it's going to be wet. We've
00:28seen some rain across the southeast of England as well. And some of that's been quite thundery
00:31so far on Saturday morning too. And across more northern parts of Scotland, we've got
00:35a mixture of sunny spells and showers. So back to Saturday afternoon then, the potential
00:40for some persistent and heavy rain, leading to some travel disruption and some flooding
00:45on the roads across particularly Wales and northern parts of England. A yellow warning
00:49for rain in place here. Some rain in other parts of the UK as well, mostly in the form
00:54of showers across northern parts of Scotland. And here we will see some pretty keen
00:57blustery northerly winds. So feeling pretty cool when you factor in those winds across
01:02the north. Highs of just 14 or 15 degrees at best here. And nowhere near as warm as it
01:08was on Friday afternoon across the southeast. Temperatures down by several degrees and feeling
01:12quite cool where the persistent rain persists.
01:14Now, as you go into this evening, we are likely to see some very strong winds developing as well
01:19as this rain starts to clear away from south Wales. Some strong gusty winds, gale force winds
01:24perhaps across the Bristol Channel and south Wales. And even the chance of even inland gales
01:29in places overnight tonight. That rain will slowly ease away from northern England by the
01:34early hours of Sunday morning. But once again, the chance of gales or even severe gales for
01:39parts of Lincolnshire and Norfolk as that area of low pressure clears away. Otherwise, though,
01:44winds will ease down. It will turn drier and some clear spells are likely as well tonight. So
01:48it is going to be a much cooler night compared to the night just gone. And across some northern
01:53parts of the UK feeling quite cold. So a touch of frost in some rural areas in Scotland and Northern
01:58Ireland. Now here, though, we will see a continuation of that showery theme on Sunday. So some fairly
02:04frequent and heavy showers being blown in on those brisk northerly winds across northern parts of
02:09Scotland, also across Northern Ireland as well. Some hail, some thunder mixed in with those showers as
02:14well. Some of those showers will drift down North Sea coastal regions too. For southern parts of the
02:19UK, well, some clouds, particularly through the morning, the odd shower here and there, but generally a
02:23brighter day to come by the afternoon. Now it will feel colder than on Saturday for many of us. Temperatures
02:29below average quite widely. Locally 16 or 17 in some sheltered southern areas, but otherwise 13 or 14
02:36for many. And when you factor in those keen northerly winds, well, for northern parts of Scotland, it's
02:41going to feel pretty cold. Just highs of three or four degrees for the Northern Isles and here gusts of
02:46up to 50 miles per hour. So a cooler feeling day wherever you are. A few showers around on Sunday
02:52evening, but actually many of us will end the weekend on a much brighter note with some late sunshine.
02:57And as we go into Sunday night, clearing skies are likely to lead to much colder conditions. So
03:03some fairly widely frosty conditions in the countryside as we begin the day on Monday.
03:08But it does mean that it's going to be a settled start to the week. High pressure will bring plenty
03:11of sunshine on Monday, just a bit of cloud in places. And despite temperatures still a little
03:16bit below average, it won't be quite as breezy. So it won't feel quite as cool as it will do on Sunday.
