Criminal elements are still using drones to smuggle contraband within prison walls. General Secretary of the Prison Officers Association, Lester Logie, stressed that the problem remains a serious one.

He noted that even with the installation of stronger jammers, these criminal actors simply fly drones at higher altitudes to bypass the systems.

00:23I don't know the solutions they thought would have worked, has not worked.
00:27They had some grabbers and jammers where they said it created a kind of geo-fence, but that hasn't worked.
00:33They just fly the drones higher so that it's out of range for that geo-fence.
00:42So they have to look at other solutions.
00:45Logie says that while efforts to boost human deterrence and strengthen jamming systems around prisons are ongoing,
00:53the aging design of the facilities continues to pose challenges.
