Vandals have struck yet another HDC community, cutting T&TEC cables

This time, hundreds of families within the Corinth Hills HDC development in San Fernando were without electricity for about eight hours on Saturday morning.

Our reporter Cindy Raghuba-Teekersingh visited the community and tells us more.
Transcript
00:00It's the second time in two weeks vandals have cut underground TNTech cables powering entire HDC communities.
00:09Last week, Saturday night, over 400 homes lost power for over 12 hours in the Fairfield estate Princess Town development
00:17when four high-voltage cables powering 30 transformers were cut.
00:22And this morning, at least two underground HV cables powering about 17 transformers were cut,
00:30severing electricity to around 300 households across the Corinth Hills, San Fernando development.
00:52So we alluded to them that the hair was open and, well, it was a rapid response from them.
00:57It's been frustrating, really. I'm sweating. I have a little grandbaby here.
01:02She does sweat even when she's in her condition. So you could imagine what you're going through right now.
01:07Some of the affected HDC residents we spoke to called for cameras to be installed at vital asset sites as
01:15a deterrent for criminals.
01:17Well, it would have been easier if it was TNTech had a problem, but to know, gosh, people vandalizing, this
01:22is what it comes to.
01:23It really, it's really disturbing, you know. I mean, the place done in a mess already, it has so much
01:30crime.
01:30And to know that they're coming now to vandalize, that upsetting our whole community, it's really uncomfortable.
01:35I think we do. So they need to maybe put in some more cameras so they can catch these culprits.
01:40Because, I mean, come on, people are flying and says, this morning a dip came off, dip came off.
01:47I got up and I unplugged my this because I say, this is not normal. This thing could spoil your
01:52hair.
01:55They say, when it rains, it pours. It's just too much, too much.
01:58The area's councillor visited the site on Saturday and he too called for more to be done.
02:04I'm not sure if it is a target on HGC development.
02:08Just recently, we would have learned that they attempted to steal cables also in the Prince's Town area, Fairfield, which
02:14is on HGC development also.
02:16So I'm asking if more can be done in terms of policing to try and crack down on these attempted
02:22disruptions that we are seeing right now with the TNTech services.
