In a sweeping move under the Emergency Powers Regulations, the Government has ordered the immediate arrest of eight men accused of plotting violent acts and linked to gang activity across the country. Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander says this is part of a wider crackdown on individuals posing a threat to public safety.
00:00Eight men named in emergency detention orders are now wanted by law enforcement for immediate arrest as the state moves to prevent what officials believe could have been a deadly attack in broad daylight.
00:11The group includes alleged gang members Kareem King, Nathaniel Joseph Shepard, Raphael Randy St. Rose, Kalfini Kosey Smith, Kyle Farrell, Malik Kareem Ferdinand, Nimal Mahadio and Terrence Maloney.
00:28Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander confirmed to TV6 News on Wednesday night that he was finalizing several detention orders, saying,
00:37We are using the tools available to get the bad guys. Expect more in the near future.
00:44Before midnight, the orders had been issued under paragraph 2 of the schedule to the Emergency Powers Regulations of 2025.
00:51These allow for the preventative detention of persons believed to pose a threat to public safety without requiring a warrant.
01:00According to the signed documents, the orders stem from intelligence that some of the men were allegedly planning to kill a woman in Barataria over a land dispute.
01:09The attack was expected to be carried out in broad daylight during working hours, a scenario officials say could have endangered multiple innocent bystanders.
01:21Among the accused is Kareem King of Pitman Lane in Belmont, who is allegedly part of a gang and has been linked to a cache of high-powered weapons.
01:30He, along with Terrence Maloney and Kyle Farrell, is a suspect in the murder of Marvin Phillip and in a planned reprisal hit against Joseph Phillip for a July 13th killing.
01:42Nathaniel Shepard, also known as Shirty of Kokoreet, was identified as a known gunman and gang member and is under investigation for attempted murder and allegedly part of the plot to execute the Barataria woman.
01:57He is said to have received two rifles from known facilitators.
02:00Raphael St. Rose, a.k.a. Puppy and Heads of Barataria, was also named as a part of the daylight murder plot and is said to still direct known shooters.
02:13The eight men are expected to be tamed at the Correctional Rehabilitation Center.
02:18While the orders were published on Thursday, they were officially signed on July 26th.
