Breaking barriers this Independence Day, the Tunapuna-Piarco Regional Corporation held its celebration at the Eddie Hart Grounds with the first ever silent fireworks, attracting some 10,000 patrons. Chairman Josiah Austin praised the seamless event, highlighting a strong police presence that kept security tight from start to finish....

00:00As Trinidad and Tobago marks its 63rd year of independence, Chairman Josiah Austin tells
00:06us of the crucial role law enforcement played in keeping tens of thousands safe during this
00:13historic celebration.
00:15He tells TB6 the officers ensured a safe environment throughout the festivities and a firework
00:21display.
00:22Special thanks to the TTPS, North Central Division, and our municipal police.
00:29We saw those collaborative efforts both internally and externally with traffic and control and
00:38also managing security within the venue.
00:41We saw them in great numbers and we took care of them and we were really thankful for the
00:46support that we got from them.
00:48Chairman Josiah Austin says residents flocked to the Independence Day celebration, enjoying
00:54the community's vibrant talents, performances and activities on full display.
00:59So everything went excellent last night, I must say.
01:04The Tunapunapiakko region came out in their numbers and why the Trinidad and Tobago because
01:10we had in excess of 10,000 patrons there enjoying themselves, we had a lot of friends, we called
01:17out a lot of families, we saw families in their numbers.
01:20It has really showed and displayed what the region is made of, the largest region, most
01:27diverse, and we saw that last night in the display of culture and the persons that came
01:33out, they had a grand time and we could only expect more in 2026.
01:38This year, the Mrs. Kamla-Poussad-Bissasa government called for the use of silent fireworks for private
01:45celebrations on Independence Day, replacing the traditional state-sponsored fireworks.
01:50This policy, enacted during the existing state of emergency, aimed to reduce noise disturbances
01:57for vulnerable individuals like the elderly, infants and pets, and to avoid disorientation or
02:04confusion with illegal firearms during the security-sensitive period.
