The Tunapuna Piarco Regional Corporation is gearing up to host its own Independence Day celebrations. But whether there will be fireworks or not, was still up in the air as at Thursday, pending the permit.

So said the TPRC Chairman, who also shared his views on the government's cancellation of the Independence Day Parade.

00:31had a private um companies come on board to assist with the fireworks so they have notified me up
00:39until yesterday they were waiting uh response with respect to the permit for silent fireworks
00:46so i don't know if that might be a surprise i don't know if it'll be granted i hope it will be
00:50because that's something we've been asking for uh for quite some time and something we've been
00:55looking forward to it comes as the government has placed a ban on noisy fireworks for independence
01:01day a move uploaded by some another change is a national day of prayer and reflection in place of
01:08the independence day parade on fireworks because of what the government says is a national security
01:14situation placing the lives of high profile officials and the general public at risk it's
01:20the third time the parade has been cancelled with the previous two occasions being in 2020 and 2021
01:27due to the public health emergency faced during the covet 19 pandemic asked about his thoughts on
01:33the cancellation austin tells us the parade is something he attended since he was five years old
01:38adding that people and children look forward to it and i know the impact it has had on my life
01:44and it has had on children's life over the years so i could only imagine um i would really hope that
01:50this is not a continuation of this moving into next year but it has really taken away from a large
01:56aspect of of what we celebrate as a country um what we as an independent country gaining um self-governance
02:04in 1962 austin believes there is more to the cancellation than what has been said but tells us more will be
