How Tobago will mark Independence Day.. is still not known.

What is known.. is that it will not have a parade and fireworks.. in keeping with the Central Government's decision to cancel such events this year.

The Independence Day parade and fireworks in Tobago.. have also been cancelled. This was confirmed.. in a release from the Office of the THA's Chief Secretary on last Saturday. And the decision has sparked mixed views among the public.

00:00The Office of the Chief Secretary confirmed that in keeping with Friday's national announcement, there will be no Independence Day parade, official government functions or state-sponsored fireworks in Tobago to mark the nation's 63rd anniversary.
00:17Instead, these events will be replaced by a National Day of Prayer and Reflection, given the current state of emergency.
00:25The release further noted that national security is a sixth-schedule matter under the Tobago House of Assembly Act and therefore falls solely under the responsibility of the central government.
00:39The THA said it stands guided by national security intelligence and will continue to align its decisions accordingly.
00:47Following its Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, August 20th, Chief Secretary Farley-Augustin is expected to outline Tobago's specific plans for the day.
